He took a top 4 or 5 team to 14th. Roeder took the same team to 7th. He had fallouts with Bellamy and Robert. Couldn't control the players. We had the infamous Dyer & Bowyer incident during his rein. Now blames it all on Freddie and supporters.
they over achieved for a few years but still won nothing - big deal. The decline was always going to happen.
They were never going to sustain the top flight for long coz of the ego in the team.
@@languageoffootball Says who...Souness and Ashley fans😜
@@laitmagnani1525 says pretty much every season for the last 70 apart from the odd few where they’ve finished higher up the “also-ran” table!
Classic manager. Blames everyone else but himself
In the previous 3 seasons to when Souness was appointed, Newcastle finished 3rd, 5th and 4th. He took us to 14th. After he was sacked, Roeder took us back up to 7th. To blame his abject failure on a man who is dead and can’t refute his claims and the fans “expectations” is extremely weak. I think the fans had a right to “expect” a bit more from him.
Eddie Howe fully deserved his new contract. I imagine it was very much sanctioned by Ashworth, who is not a “new person to football.” Complete lack of understanding of what he achieved last season and how the club is run. Poor segment this
Expect nothing less from this bunch of hacks
Souness as a manager and media personality is atrocious. Good player but terrible takes as a pundit.
So you're saying its right that the owner had the say on the signing of Owen over anelka? If souness got who he wanted they may well have finished higher
@@bfcrangers5411 I highly doubt that. He was terrible.
@BFCRANGERS If you look up Souness’s quotes from the time, he took full credit for signing Owen and said Shepherd “fell out of his chair” when he told he wanted him. Bragged to the press that he convinced him to leave Madrid.
I also don’t think not signing Anelka was the reason we went from a champions league team to a bottom half team under his management
Any manager who can turn a 40mil flop striker Joelinton into a midfield revelation deserves a new deal. Especially saving Newcastle from relegation
He was always a midfielder. He only played up front as he was forced to due to a lack of other options.
@@TooMuchScreenTimeFFS He was seen as a striker, how you can say he was signed as a midfielder is ridiculous
Steve Bruce started playing him there first….
Steve Bruce had his as a midfielder a few months before Eddie camd in
@@PharmacyAve no he didn’t he had him left wing
Souness really fits in with these two . Great show
A manager that turned the team from a relegation battle into finishing 11 (started middle of the season) with amazing transfer window without dan ashworth. Saved Joelintons career, improved the fitness, training and tactics of the team. Creating hope and believe to the fanbase thats use to disappointment.. i reckon he deserve a new contract and the chance to take us as far as he can.. and hopefully he becomes our Ferguson or Wenger
I'm not a Newcastle fan but always respected the team and the fans. I think Eddie Howe has done a good job so far and I didn't think he deserved the sack at Bournemouth to begin with. I just hate thst Newcastle are a state run club now and I hope they don't become like PSG. A well respected club before the money and now I hope they get thrashed in every game.
Nicolas Anelka was such underrated forward in Premier League. It was such shame my club Liverpool didn't made his loan into permanent move knowing he wanted to stay with us, but we instead signed El Hadji Diouf for £10m in 2002.
The problem with Anelka was, he'd want to be there on Monday & by Tuesday morning, want to leave. His reputation cost him the move in favour of Diouf.
He was not in anyway "underrated". He was a great player and everyone who follows football knew that.
@@GamingRobioto the word “underrated” gets thrown around like confetti these days. Anelka was world class for a long period and if he settled at a single club for a longer time he would’ve earned legend status there.

TalkSPORT: I don’t understand why they’ve given him a new contract.
😂 😂 😂
I get what your saying, but wouldn't it of been shrewd to hold your cards to your chest and see how he does in the first 8 weeks of the new season?
@@TheFatAmericans1 I don’t think there’s any need to overcomplicate things. He did a great job so he gets a contract. Simple. If it’d been a close wrung finish, fair enough, but Newcastle survived with flying colors. It sends the right message: “If you do great work, we take care of you.” 😊
@@TheFatAmericans1 why, owners are loaded. Only fair play rules stopping us. Compensation isn't part of FP. A new contract says owners are committed to Howe who did sign a slightly shorter than normal contract anyways. It's a gesture that has all the positive and no negative. It means nothing but more compensation should things go wrong. Giving compensation isn't an issue anymore. Eddie a man manager, creates a group of people and the players will of been pretty happy for their manager to sign a new contact. It says to some players, earn it and be rewarded.

Souness re writing history. In his press conference on been named Newcastle manager he said "I feel I've come to a club with so much in place to make it successful, that if we enjoy a wee bit of luck we can certainly give the fans what they have been craving for, for a long time." "I'm inheriting a fabulous situation, I'm so excited to be here, I can't tell ya. My vocabulary doesn't extend that far to say what I really feel inside; this is a dream job for me!" Finished in the top 6 on the 3 previous seasons under Sir Bobby Robson and played in the Champions League beating the likes of Juventus along the way. So to Simon Jordan and Souness, yes the fans did expect better!! We aren't deluded!! The only one who is deluded Graeme is you!!!!! First game after Souness appointment Newcastle United soundly thrashed the team Souness left (Blackburn Rovers) 3 0 and less than a year later lost 1 0 at home and dropped from the previous year of 5th to 14th!!
Basically Souness was talking crap but that's all in the past exciting times now for Newcastle I wish them well
Managers are not 100% honest in press conferences, he was saying what the fans wanted to hear.
We had not chopped and changed managers. Prior to Souness, Sir Bobby was our managers for 5 years!!
These guys had no issues back when Roman took over Chelsea or the New Man City owners but here they sit critically accusing Newcastle of transfer business they may or may not do when in truth Newcastle did not spend the amount of money both Chelsea and City have . All the do is say in hindsight it was bad for the game what Chelsea did and City. VERY critical tho to Newcastle who haven't even spent over the top money .

Eddie Howe has been absolutely brilliant since he walked in and his methods of managing the club compared to Steve Bruce are chalk and cheese. They’re really not giving him enough credit. Look at players like Shar, Joelinton, Fraser, Almiron all improved under Howe. And the team play as a unit now too; high energy lots of pressing. Compared to under Bruce where it was ‘just give the ball to Maxi and hope for the best’ 🤞
And to add to that, I wouldn’t be surprised if England came calling for Howe if the WC goes badly hence why the new contract isn’t a bad idea
Ah yes FFP. How’s that working out for Barcelona? Or City in the past?
One rule for the status quo another for the others.
FFP was a way of ensuring the status quo stay in power.
FFP = Football's Fixed Positions
Yep, which makes Chelsea ECT moaning about toon deal even funnier. Toon are rich but unable to spend it. They've literally gotta break the mould to join the elites. A fixed system. Maybe I'm deluded being a fan, but I do believe we will defeat the system. It's going to be a few years until they do. Making sound investments. Everton tried and failed badly lol. Over 500m spent. Got them no where. Think they recouped half of it back now with sales.
Jordan on this one is strange. Is he mad that they aren't being the "criminals" they want by over spending and acting like Newcastle couldn't get in trouble if they don't have some form of balancing. It's bewildering what they're going on about. This new management are probably being methodical about who they've appointed and their short term and long term goals. NUFC are probably going to be a slow burner until the club itself can generate enough to spend being on the regular.
Not great for Barca considering they've had to sell off future tv and media rights to register players due to a wage cap brought in to keep clubs within FFP
Graham Potter and Eddie Howe are the 2 best British managers. Pep thinks so too
Never forget Graeme Souness and his dealings with the Jean Alain Boumsong transfer.... The Stevens Inquire, the real reason that he never managed again, everyone knew he had dirty hands.
The Stevens inquiry absolved him of any wrongdoing or even knowledge of it. A Google search before posting, would save you from looking like an idiot. 😉

As as Newcastle Fan the idea of having Shearer and Anelka upfront together is insane to me, what could have been.

Great comments by both and all.
This is now the best channel
Even Souness Didn't Want Michael Owen
And you believe him 😂
Bit of an elephant in the room with Jordan crediting Ashley when Souness complains about not being in total control under Shepherd. Wonder how Souness would have enjoyed working under Ashley?
Sourness was an average manager prior to NUFC, he was on the way out and he was the best of a bad bunch of what we could attract at the time Ala Steve Bruce.. his inability is the reason he left football management!
Bruce has been very consistent in his career at creating a hardworking side to compete under financial restrictions. I won't be surprised if West Brom go up.
Souness was already bitter and overcooked by the time he got to Newcastle.
Anyone buying the nearest relegation rivals best striker and a champions league midfielder would be able to stay up.
@@dizzydazed8055 Hardworking? His own players have come out and stated on record they were not fit enough for the premiership last season when we couldn't win a game under his leadership. His football was the worst I have ever seen at StJames. WestBrom will finish 13th-17th in the Championship and Bruce will be gone post World Cup.
Detecting a hint of jealousy here. Souness was a disaster and he never managed again because he was dodgy as hell and no club wanted him.
Correct. BBC investigated him and his step son

You can't say that we're trying to spend loads when Forest have spent more so far and Chelsea have spent £174m after two years of huge losses....
The Souness wanting Anelka instead of Owen is widely known, but what they should have asked him is how much of a kickback did he receive from the Boumsong deal!
Chelsea huge losses over the past two years 🤨
Souness was definitely the start of our downfall and Owen was the worst strike Newcastle ever had.
Owens goal to games ratio wasn’t even that bad at Newcastle so I think this is a bit of an emotive statement to make.
Respectfully disagree mate, remember Gullits ‘sexy football’ haha. Absolutely dismantled a strong team
Eddie Howe is much more like a sir Bobby Robson type manager than a souness type manager and he has deserved his contract extension in my view. The only reason in my opinion he said howe didn’t deserve his contract extension is because of bitterness.
So lucky to have seen anelka play for Bolton one of the best strikers I’ve ever seen.
Souness had a hard job coming in after sir Bobby was hounded out because he finished outside of the champions league but we obviously know newcastle fans aren’t and we’re never deluded
Surprised Souness didn't blame Paul Pogba for his miserable time at Newcastle.
He literally took over a team which had finished 4th, 3rd and 5th in the previous three seasons and he finished 14th.
Of course there were expectations after such league finishes and of course fans were disappointed with such a decline after he took over.
He makes himself out to be some sort of no nonsense straight talker when in reality he takes no responsibility and hides behind fake excuses in a very insecure way.
Sir bobby got fire for being a bad manager he said new castle were much of little girls he said I would have won things but at new castle but they act little babies so I didn't
Love the arrogance of these two. Makes it compelling viewing/listening.
Please correct me if I wrong on this fact :
Newcastle utd had 3 ex Liverpool players that became. Manager. Daglish Keegan .and.souness ...
All great legends of the game
The constant derision from this channel toward NUFC is diabolical. We are going places, get used to it.
In Souness defence, it had gone pretty toxic very quickly. Remember Bellamy mouthing off at him when being substituted? No way would a player do that it there were high standards at a club for a long time previous. Then you had Bowyer and Dyer scrapping on the pitch. I also remember it was impossible to get a centre back and out of desperation Newcastle signed Boumsong. He was alright, but no more than that. Certainly not someone to build a winning team around. The worst thing reflecting back was that there was a lot of excellent players there. So, something was wrong around the club.
He was awful
@@TwofourA Can you at least accept that it wasn't just him who didn't do themselves any favours that time.
@@JSL2000 yes but it was under him the team collapsed so what does that tell you

A decent job? Give him a break. It was outstanding; no club had done what Newcastle did.
For guys who know about football contracts, I'm surprised that none have guessed that maybe there were certain clauses or sub sections or whatever that may have required a new contract/terms of employment.
The only people who know what the old contract and new contract states is the club and EH/his lawyers.
06:50 - Brilliant comment!
Michael Owen said Graham called him many times, over many minths, begging him to join Newcastle. So who is lying?
About the only thing we owe to him was convincing shearer to not retire.
But then again how much of that was Alan just deciding to go for Milburn record.
Sourness & Simon are the top two pundits - now if you get seema jaswal from itv - u 4 will be the fab 4 - ratings will go through the roof - white is superb at how he stays quiet at key times - real skill
Owen was already finished by 2005 let's be honest. Anelka was probably a better player at that time.
Yeah, he looked a shot player once he came back from Madrid
Anelka was a baller
Wtf is a baller ?
Bobby Robson got two top 4 finishes at Newcastle before Souness.
they over achieved for a few years but still won nothing - big deal. The decline was always going to happen.
I remember this well tbf, he also wanted Boa Morte rather than Albert Luque. As much as I don't rate Souness as a manager, I think Anelka and Boa Morte would have made us a much better team.
Do I detect sour grapes Mr Souness
Anelka was world class on his day
Good bit of business tbh. After this season he's got only a season left. He's done a cracking job and deserved a contract that equals that. This shows the club commitment to the cause. 2.5 was a bit low for a manager contract anyways. A contract only a payout clause, which isn't inc in fair play rules so it's not like owners couldn't afford it. It's not come out of nowhere either, been rumoured for a couple of month.
As newcastle fan i got pissed of when souness took over newcastle, it was repeat of kenny daglish era. Both times newcastle was top 4 teams before these former Liverpool players destroyed the team. Kevin keegan made Newcastle stong side before daglish dismantled the team and sir Bobby Robson rebuilt the team to superb side before souness eliminated the strong side. Newcastle should never hire former Liverpool players as managers.

Simon way off the mark here… we don’t know why clauses were in Howe’s original contract and Eddie isn’t spending the money, Dan Ashworth is. These lot need to start getting clued up on other clubs outside the top 6/7…
Wondering what Simon fills his car with? Or does he feel strongly about supporting a regime he despises and rides his bicycle to work?
Despite what souness was like at the toon I still like listening to him , not one for clinging to the past, I’d have wanted Anelka over Owen too
Souness fits right in in talksport as he talks bull most of the time. One of the worst managers ever at Newcastle Utd.
Souness was a world class player but a terrible manager at big clubs. He did well with the smaller clubs.
That’s right, shift the blame on a dead man. Classy Souness.
I can vividly recall Souness saying “When I handed Freddy the bit paper with Michael Owen’s name on, he nearly fell off his seat.” Now Freddy’s dead, it’s a different story. The bloke walks as he talks. He’s an utter knob.

Graeme Souness is so very easy to listen to , a real football man , with solid principles , and true legend of the game .

Im a Newcastle fan and he is by far the worst premier league manager we had. He took a talented squad which was bright attacking and enjoyable and made us dull slow and lethargic. I actually steve bruce/joe kinnear were even better as they had poor squads. I do not respect his opinion and liked this show for Simon Jordan but wont listen anymore. Graeme Souness and Michael Owen shouldnt be allowed to comment on Newcastle.
BWAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA👏🏿
I'd say Kinnear is easily the worst he couldn't even remember names of the players. Souness is definitely worse than Bruce though at least Bruce got us to 12th and 13th with a worse squad and didn't fall out with everyone.
Steve Bruce is high up there in my list.
What about Joe Kinnear? He forgot the players' names!
I the new kind we trust long live the king .!!!
Souness was a terrible manager he only did sort of well at Liverpool…at Newcastle he was so bad
He won the league cup at Blackburn
He was terrible as a manager at Liverpool. Start of the decline. Unreal footballer. One of the best to ever play the game, but loose cannon as a manager.
I see he’s not bitter about his time at the Toon 🫠
Sourness created a mess at Newcastle fell out with multiple players and had teammate’s fighting on the pitch.
When Howe was brought in at Newcastle Simon said that the 2.5 year contract showed a lack of confidence in him and that he wouldn’t be there for long. This new contract shows the opposite and Simon still has a bone to pick about it 😂 he’s so contradictory.
Simons a mess of a man
Every time sourness open his mouth lemon lime and grapefruits fall out this bloke is bitter beyond belief
Why is Graeme Souness seen as a go to man for everything Newcastle United?
He was there for all of five minutes and knows very little about the club, city, fans etc
Low and behold though, every time Newcastle has a game this bitter and twisted man is wheeled out to spout his bile about the club!
There are far better candidates to interview than this bloke who clearly has his vendetta because he was sacked!
He should be banned from commenting on this club because he knows nothing about anything...
He knew how to use Newcastle's money to make an illegitimate signing from another club he had shares in.... The real reason he never managed again, showed his true character.
He knows that he’s won trophies as a player and manager and that Newcastle haven’t won anything meaningful for several generations. They over achieved for a few years in the 90s and early 00s but still won nothing - big deal. The decline was always going to happen.
Boumsong and signing Amourouso & Tugay both over 32 for a combined £7 mil to his boy hood club
Also deliberately paying over the odds for Barry Ferguson
Brought him on the show and never talked about his time at blackburn...won a league cup with a team with a bare min budget!!

Took a top 5 side, which were capable of champions league football, fell out with all the best players, spent £50m which was crazy money back then, putting the club in huge debt, pocketing money through corruption, and d turned the side into relegation candidates.
No fans of any club would be happy about that. It's doesn't matter what club or what manager. They would want him out and have every reason to.
That’s the only decent thing Ashley did as in leaving us in a decent financial position for Amanda and co
Jordan says we have three years to spend big, so what happens then? Can hardly spend at all if it all goes wrong.
I'm just shocked that Souness didn't blame Paul Pogba for his terrible record as Newcastle manager
That’s not what he said at the time. He was clear that he gave the name of Owen to Freddie Shepherd.
Yes, Eddie Howe deserve his new contract. He’s the type of coach who will get Newcastle into the Champions League.
I’m pretty sure dan ashworth will have pushed this idea to the owners. Ill trust his knowledge and football acumen
Even still they don’t get it. Just because they can’t wrap their head around why extended his contract doesn’t mean it’s wrong. Maybe they’re saying we want him as our long term manager and it’s a statement and good for Eddie and the fans…these pundits should be sacked as they’re useless
Or in 18months just renew it again if he continues to perform
It’s just a PR stunt. It’s all but guaranteed that he won’t be in the job in two years time.
Based off what..Yeah he may get sacked/replaced but this ownership have not copied other teams/Man City…they know the fans love Howe….it would take a lot of negative/a really bad spell for that to change and the board want what the fans want.
