In the previous 3 seasons to when Souness was appointed, Newcastle finished 3rd, 5th and 4th. He took us to 14th. After he was sacked, Roeder took us back up to 7th. To blame his abject failure on a man who is dead and can’t refute his claims and the fans “expectations” is extremely weak. I think the fans had a right to “expect” a bit more from him.
Eddie Howe fully deserved his new contract. I imagine it was very much sanctioned by Ashworth, who is not a “new person to football.” Complete lack of understanding of what he achieved last season and how the club is run. Poor segment this

Souness re writing history. In his press conference on been named Newcastle manager he said "I feel I've come to a club with so much in place to make it successful, that if we enjoy a wee bit of luck we can certainly give the fans what they have been craving for, for a long time." "I'm inheriting a fabulous situation, I'm so excited to be here, I can't tell ya. My vocabulary doesn't extend that far to say what I really feel inside; this is a dream job for me!" Finished in the top 6 on the 3 previous seasons under Sir Bobby Robson and played in the Champions League beating the likes of Juventus along the way. Good bit of business tbh. After this season he's got only a season left. He's done a cracking job and deserved a contract that equals that. This shows the club commitment to the cause. 2.5 was a bit low for a manager contract anyways. A contract only a payout clause, which isn't inc in fair play rules so it's not like owners couldn't afford it. It's not come out of nowhere either, been rumoured for a couple of month.

As newcastle fan i got pissed of when souness took over newcastle, it was repeat of kenny daglish era. Both times newcastle was top 4 teams before these former Liverpool players destroyed the team. Kevin keegan made Newcastle stong side before daglish dismantled the team and sir Bobby Robson rebuilt the team to superb side before souness eliminated the strong side. Newcastle should never hire former Liverpool players as managers.
