@@thedorianjones I still think ten Hag could have managed it better. For example - take Ronaldo off after 65 minutes if he starts. Or bring him on for the last 35 minutes from the bench.
He could have sat out the occasional cup tie against lower league opposition and he could have still have played 90 minutes in other matches - mix it up and give him enough game-time to keep him happy - manage the situation.
Instead, leaving him to sit on the bench - and then asking him to come on for the last 3 or 4 minutes felt like the manager pushing the player out.

It's hilarious how Sourness said united should have kept Ronaldo because he was a "top professional". He refused to come on as a substitute and stormed off down the tunnel. He was on £600k-£700k a week. What's professional about that? Can't argue with his achievements and how he's looked after himself but you're well paid to do something, do it.

That mentality Souness is talking about regarding Pogba is the whole French squad’s problem. If they weren’t so lackadaisical they would of won 2 World Cups back to back with the 3rd one in the post lol. They are not hungry to be ELITE. They don’t have the drive because they feel they’re better than everyone else already and it cost them in Qatar.
They weren’t even focused and managed to reach the final. Imagine if they were focused 😂and kept that same hunger as if they were underdogs.

Totally agree with Souness on both points. Pogba an incredible gifted player, but didn't have the right mindset to become an all time great and so wasted his talent. Ronaldo did have that right mindset, and they should have kept him and learnt from him. A born winner, that's the mentality that sadly this United team do not have.

Yeah should have kept him after he went public with piers Morgan in an interview. It’s not football manager half the fan base turned on him and are still bitter now he had to go. Then you say about his mindset he was being late refused to come on left games early and went home some level of respect that to the rest of the squad. He has not watched his career? He is not watching him in the desert? He thinks that him scoring goals there is similar to Halland and others in top tier competitive football. The delusion is palpable.

@@Ozzy7 your comparison is well placed. He should be comparing himself those in the dessert, not those in Europe. Even a 12 year old knows that. The others you mentioned have been poor. One thing Ronaldo can do if he has time and don't have to exert himself physically, is put the ball at the back of the net. No one would ever doubt that who has played football. That is the last ability to leave a footballer. However, you would be deluded to agree that he should have been kept by Man United to be on the bench and that he should be comparing his goals with the likes of Halaand and others in Europe.

@@criticalthinking8982 I get that the Saudi league isn’t the same as the Premier league, however if scoring goals was that easy I do believe that even in the “desert league” or Europe players would be scoring for fun. When Ronaldo left Man United others said Rashford would get off his shadow, how many goals has he scored up until now at Man U? I’m not saying They needed Ronaldo, but you can’t deny his capabilities of scoring goals, we don’t know for sure if it would have work out between him and ETH, but ETH gave up on him way too soon, maybe he never wanted him. Can’t blame Ronaldo for wanting to play, any player would feel the same.

    • @criticalthinking8982
      @criticalthinking8982 Před 4 měsíci +1

@@Ozzy7 it's not just that the Saudi League are not on the same level as the premier league, they are way below it. You do know that that championship in the UK is ranked higher? A player or a team is as good as its opponents.
That said, given Ronaldo's ability to score goals, he would always score in a poor league, provided he has players around him who can supply him - and that's exactly what he has found in his particular team. Ronaldo and his fans are delusional to think he could still play at the top level. Only him and them believe it despite irrefutable evidence. No one came for him, he was dropped at the world cup, etc.
My point is Souness is delusional to think he would have stayed at Man United as a back up striker. His ego wouldn't have allowed that and he would have continued to be disruptive. Although he plays in a poor league. His defense mechanism allows him to exaggerate the status of the league to fuel his ego. Fans seems to be part of this, unfortunately.

There are two different Pogba's, one of the best footballers in the World when representing France and average Pogba when representing United. Whenever Pogba performed poorly the French media blamed United, therefore Pogba did not see his poor performances at United as being a Pogba problem.
Initially even when Juve resigned Pogba they saw his previous club form as being a Manchester United problem and assumed they under Juve that he would return to his best.

Souness is spot on... he was a great player.... Pogba tells himself he is a great player... however Pogba cannot do the basics well
.. Run .... find space ... tackle.... all the things required when your teams not playing well and need to stay in the game... lucky for him he had the outstanding Kante to do this for him in the French National team... Pogba loses the ball cheaply in the wrong areas and puts his backs under immediate preasure...
He saps energy and enthusiasm from all his fellow team mates.
The worst thing is we could all see this before he signed... as with Sancho Martial plus 60 million on a chelsea flop who at the time couldnt even get on the first 11...and the other prima Donna's.... so why did we sign them.
Give our youngsters a chance instead of wasting all that money...
We could have at least tried Ronaldo mixed with the younger generation to see if we could move forward.
What Utd have now is woefully inadequate and theyre not a team.
