These days, especially with full-backs, everyone wants them to be brilliant at going forward and it often feels like that becomes more of a priority than their ability to defend well. The best defenders are those who do their primary job brilliantly, and it's a bonus if they happen to be good at going forward as well. It should never be the other way round but these days I think those priorities have become skewed.

Greatest Premier League XI of all time ( My Picks ):
GK: Peter Cech ( Arguable because Peter Schmeichel deserves it to the same extent )
LB: Ashley Cole ( Pretty straightforward )
CBs: John Terry and Nemanja Vidic ( Rio Ferdinand [ Vidic has more POTY, therefore the choice ] and Virgil Van Dijik [ Too early to judge ] are probably the best alternatives for these two )
RB: Garry Neville ( Again pretty straightforward )
DMF: Patrick Viera ( One of the biggest reasons for Arsenal's success and heart of their midfield during his prime )
CAMs: Kevin De Bruyne and Frank Lampard ( Ok, I do know that KDB is arguable but I picked him over Gerrard cuz Gerrard contributed towards his team massively but was unfortunate enough to win a PL title. Meanwhile KDB is one of the greatest midfielders of this generation. Also Paul Scholes and Roy Keane deserve mentions cuz they were just too gud during their time, they just don't fit in the squad )
RW: Wayne Rooney ( Arguable one but he is the only player in PL history to score 200+ goals and 100+ assists, extremely prolific and probably the biggest asset to Man U's huge success in the late 00's and early 10's)
LW: Cristiano Ronaldo ( The most arguable one in this list imo but Ronaldo was a beast in his young days, not to mention on his return back to the prem he was the best player at shitty Man U team and also the last PL player [ so far ] to win a Ballon d'or. This man completely deserves his spot )
ST: Thierry Henry ( Personally for me, this man is the greatest PL player of all time. Ik at the striker position Alan Shearer is probably the best pick but Rooney and Ronaldo are the best players at their position and coudn't have left Henry out of the all time squad, but Shearer is surely a PL legend )
MANAGER: Sir Alex Ferguson ( Any other answer is wrong )
Honorable Mentions in FW positions: Denis Bergkamp, Ryan Giggs and Mohammed Salah

I think all three of Lampard, Gerrard and Scholes could have played together. The problem was England crowbarring players into a flat 4-4-2 formation (like the one on this video) that couldn't accommodate them...as well as insisting on playing two strikers in an old fashion model. It's so obvious that it should have been:
    Scholes
    Gerrard Lampard
Thats England's midfield should have setup. Scholes playing as the holding midfielder with Gerrard and Lampard playing in front of him.

I agree, but I also there are other factors which hindered England's performances at major tournaments e.g. the media. I remember going into WC2006 and WC2010 that the media put so much pressure on the team and labeling them as favourites for the tournament. Don't get me wrong, in 2006 on paper they were but the level of pressure on the team was unfair.
