Your videos and photos need to be downloaded. To do that, I just went to the video or photo I wanted on my pc that was on my phone, and I clicked "edit". Once I did that, the video started to download on it's own. After I did this for all the videos I wanted, I unplugged and plugged back in my phone and clicked "allow". Then, the DCMI had the videos I wanted.
AWESOME! Thanks for sharing this! So what it did was automatically download for you because you clicked edit and in order to edit them they need to be on your device, so it auto downloaded for you because it knew you wanted to edit.
This REALLY worked out, many thanks! You just simply need to hit "edit" and once it had downloaded it, then hit "cancel. Finally plug your cable back on and those photos/videos will show up in your pc. This is really a community, thanks folks!
FOUND THE FIX! I read on another CZcams comment that you have to connect the device and wait 45 minutes for it to discover your files depending on how many photos you have. I had over 100GB of photos and it took me 15 minutes to look. I made a video on this on my channel. But thumbs up so everyone can learn the fix!
You saved my life and prevented a meltdown. You saved my laptop as I was getting ready to hammer it through the floor. You saved my iPhone because I was about to smash it into 1 million pieces. Thank you

Apple hate itself these days too. I do not blame you, Apple has gotten rotten. Shame on them, their idea is to overload your icloud to pay buy more space. Shambolic..!!! Despite the advice here, I cannot download MY OWN FREAKING DATA to my computer (Mac or PC)
You cannot convince me that Apple programmers are not always and actively trying to make it 'crappy' for competing apps, charging hardware, and operating systems under the guise of software updates and bug fixes. For example, Amazon Music always 'crashes' on ApplePlay in my truck after updates until Amazon figures out what they did and makes a new update. My non-apple chargers, even really good ones, are always made useless after updates. very frustrating.

What helped me after this method failed was going to device manager-portable devices and updating apple iphone driver from there, only then did my iphone ask whether to trust this pc again and after that i could browse my photos
Amazing! Thank you. I had the problem of the File Explorer (Windows 7) showing the iPhone and the Internal Storage folder. But clicking on that nothing would happen. By simply taking a photo on the iPhone while connected to the USB and then refreshing the File Explorer the DCIM folder appears. Nice.
Hello thank you so much this helps me a lot!!! For those whose DCIM folder not showing up especially if you have a full storage leave your phone plugged for a few minutes for the DCIM folder to show up. Thts how I did for mine bcs it doesnt show up right away probably bcs my storage is completely full so it takes some time

It had a clean, new operating system load (max iOS 9.3.5). Took me about 4 hours to learn pretty much everything I needed to know. Except - I could connect it to a PC but there was nothing in the iPad folder. Your first suggestion (just take a picture and try it all again) worked like a charm. SO THANKS!

Thank you so much!!! Have been having a similar issue. I did the reset privacy setting, had to take one additional step of powering off phone for a minute then turning back on. So far so good... just need to see if I can now download the DCIM. (Fingers Crossed) = )

Here is another way that worked for me. I can view the Internal Storage but it is empty. Close the window. Open iTunes and then open Internal Storage, the DCIM folder will show. Hope it helps anyone.

Man you're a legend thank you. I tried it with my iphone X and it worked legit no jokes. I took a random pic and then I had my folders back to normal. I could see the DCIM with no files in it. might be because you have icloud phtotos turned on, sometimes that the reason it does it, you could try turning it off and then trying because you can always turn it back on

I've never had a problem till recently, then I realized my phone had decided to upload all my pics to icloud, I just had to turn it off and download them back to my phone.
What about the opposite problem where I have no photos on my iPhone but when connected to the PC it says the internal storage is nearly full. Nothing in iCloud or deleted album either🤷🏻♀️

I never had this problem originally, it started happening at some point. Also originally I was able to go to the DCIM folder and delete any photos or videos from my iPhone through this, which was very easy and quick. Now I have to do this on the phone screen. Each time I start browsing that folder after a moment it all disappears. Every time I plug my phone in it asks whether to trust or not his device, it doesn't remember the choice I make each time. It is frustrating as I cannot backup and organise then delete the pics and videos from the phone the way I want to. Makes me want to try an android phone from now on and just throw apple out the window. I cannot believe it is running on USB 2 which is something from the past era...

So I have a weird mix of problems. I can see my phone and connect it, however when I click "allow this device to access photos and videos" the internal storage folder disappears and if I click internal storage before that, the internal storage wont show the DCIM folder
i think in your case, you should open iTunes BEFORE opening the explorer. There is a special 'permit' in iTunes to access the iPhone via Windows OS. +je
Hey dude, I have success of having a DCIM folder showing when I plug my phone into my computer but for some reason I can’t see other folders? The folder I want to access is the music one and all it shows is the DCIM folder filled with photos from my iPhone. Any way to get the other folders like music to show up on my computer?
i founded another way. Actually after all attempts with plug-in again n again or click a photo stuff got fed with all this failed tries. Was off from screen for a while and after 1 minute I was gonna plug out cable and suddenly storage started showing. I guess trick is to leave phone plugged-in for atleast a minute. Hope it works out

So this isn't eh problem that many of us are having - the problem that many of us are having is one of larger videos not showing up in the DCIM folder (that would allow us to import them to our PC's), where other video and picture files do show up. It just seems to be the larger ones - how large? I don't know as I can't seem to get data on its size form my iphone. I know I can see, and move over to the PC, a 1 gig video file, but the larger 6.5-minute video file won't even show up in DCIM.

Hi! I'm having a problem with larger videos not showing up. I thought it was a problem with files being too large, however whenever I connect my iPhone to other computers in my same office, the DCIM folder shows ALL videos regardless of size. I've tried the above, turning off icloud, and changing the setting in the photos setting to Keep originals. I cannot figure out why I can't see all the videos on my computer! It's maddening.
It might be because you have iCloud photos turned on some of your videos and photos are probably not downloaded to your device instead you’re viewing them because you’re seeing them from your iCloud account you might have to download them to your device to see them in the folder or in the camera roll

Hello, I have done these steps and now when i click on DCIM the folder only shows me a few photos from the 100s of photos I have and not the entire collection. Also, when I click on any of these photos, it says the content is unavailable. I tried the steps again and now the DCIM is not showing up at all. Any suggestions?

good luck and yeah it's tricky to get it working sometimes and there are other methods to try but once you figure it out it's nice and it works good.

My DCIM folder shows up, but its only showing about 50 pictures out of 6,000. Any idea why it's only showing that many?
Temporarily turn off iCloud photos and see if that helps

Yep I had that happen before as well.

What about the opposite problem where I have no photos on my iPhone but when connected to the PC it says the internal storage is nearly full. Nothing in iCloud or deleted album either🤷🏻♀️
Do you know if it’s something else that’s taking up all of your storage?

I never had this problem originally, it started happening at some point. Also originally I was able to go to the DCIM folder and delete any photos or videos from my iPhone through this, which was very easy and quick. Now I have to do this on the phone screen. Each time I start browsing that folder after a moment it all disappears. Every time I plug my phone in it asks whether to trust or not his device, it doesn't remember the choice I make each time. It is frustrating as I cannot backup and organise then delete the pics and videos from the phone the way I want to. Makes me want to try an android phone from now on and just throw apple out the window. I cannot believe it is running on USB 2 which is something from the past era...

So I have a weird mix of problems. I can see my phone and connect it, however when I click "allow this device to access photos and videos" the internal storage folder disappears and if I click internal storage before that, the internal storage wont show the DCIM folder
that is a strange mix of issues I don't think i ever had that happen before. maybe try and factory restore your phone and then try it
i think in your case, you should open iTunes BEFORE opening the explorer. There is a special 'permit' in iTunes to access the iPhone via Windows OS. +je

Hey dude, I have success of having a DCIM folder showing when I plug my phone into my computer but for some reason I can’t see other folders? The folder I want to access is the music one and all it shows is the DCIM folder filled with photos from my iPhone. Any way to get the other folders like music to show up on my computer?
You will need to use iTunes to do that. It’s not gonna show music in there

i founded another way. Actually after all attempts with plug-in again n again or click a photo stuff got fed with all this failed tries. Was off from screen for a while and after 1 minute I was gonna plug out cable and suddenly storage started showing. I guess trick is to leave phone plugged-in for atleast a minute. Hope it works out

So this isn't eh problem that many of us are having - the problem that many of us are having is one of larger videos not showing up in the DCIM folder (that would allow us to import them to our PC's), where other video and picture files do show up. It just seems to be the larger ones - how large? I don't know as I can't seem to get data on its size form my iphone. I know I can see, and move over to the PC, a 1 gig video file, but the larger 6.5-minute video file won't even show up in DCIM.
Yeah a bunch of people have mentioned this I’m going to be looking into it trying to figure out what’s going on with it once I figure it out I’ll do a video

I'm wondering if it is a problem with too much data (pics and videos) being stored on each phone, or if it had something to do with an update. Would also like to know if the very same happens when connected via USB to an apple computer, but I don't know anyone who uses an apple laptop.

Hi! I'm having a problem with larger videos not showing up. I thought it was a problem with files being too large, however whenever I connect my iPhone to other computers in my same office, the DCIM folder shows ALL videos regardless of size. I've tried the above, turning off icloud, and changing the setting in the photos setting to Keep originals. I cannot figure out why I can't see all the videos on my computer! It's maddening.
What kind of pc is it? The one that’s not letting them show up?

Some photos and video actually showed up after following your video but some actually didn't.
It might be because you have iCloud photos turned on some of your videos and photos are probably not downloaded to your device instead you’re viewing them because you’re seeing them from your iCloud account you might have to download them to your device to see them in the folder or in the camera roll

Hello, I have done these steps and now when i click on DCIM the folder only shows me a few photos from the 100s of photos I have and not the entire collection. Also, when I click on any of these photos, it says the content is unavailable. I tried the steps again and now the DCIM is not showing up at all. Any suggestions?
do you use iCloud? do you have iCloud photo library enabled? it might be because of a few other reasons,
