I had the same issue, but it got sorted after I clicked "Trust this PC" on the prompt that popped up on my phone after connecting it to my PC. Maybe that helps?
@@GeneDarrTV what seems to help for me is to make sure my iPhone is unlocked when I’m trying to connect it to the computer. Usually works in those situations.
Unfortunately this is not a cable issue--it's an issue on Apple or Windows. Apple has made there file systems difficult for Windows users to open in the past and I wouldn't be surprised if an update broke something since it's not a priority with apple having switched over to music streaming and cloud storage. If you can get iCloud running on your device, that seems to be the only solution atm. I wanted to use my old iPhone as a backup mp3 player, but that's not gonna work if I can't transfer files from my non itunes music library. Planned obsolescence strikes again it seems.
If it was that simple, I wouldn't be here.

it worked on mine. Turn off your phone's location. It finally showed my files.
