The CV90MkIV is a kick-ass vehicle that should be widely used by allied nations. I am especially impressed by how the engineers kept its size/weight to a minimum, excessive size and weight being the bane of all other current designs. Everyone else is trying to build a new IFV, but they're all actually just designing a medium tank that holds half a squad of soldiers as an afterthought. No IFV will ever be able to go head-to-head with an actual tank, and should not be designed to "sort of" be able to do so...trying to do that just ruins the design and is counterproductive to the original idea that an IFV should bring soldiers to the fight, in relative safety, with some ability to protect itself from less-serious threats.

I think you meant the Puma which is only 50% made by Rheinmetall. Claimed to have the best protection, the best technology and in a very transportable package. Yet it uses electronics on par with your dad's PS2, has black&white screens, poor situational awareness thanks to its all-camera system and early gen unmanned turret and even after a decade it is still riddled with bugs to fix.

    • @revolverDOOMGUY

@@willyvereb I don't know, it's hard to say from the video if it's the Puma or the Lynx. Still I agree that the Puma is riddled with problems. Not as much as the A.S.C.O.D. AJAX, but close. I think that the black and white screen were chosen because they are more durable in general and that the turret is a disaster, like it keeps jamming frequently. Now the German army wants to restart: make it so it holds a full squad, has a bigger cannon, active protection system, etc. At the same time they will have to upgrade theyr marder fleet as a stop gap measure. All this will end up doubling the budget and time required for the Puma, and most of this would have been solved if the German army just adopted the Lynx... What a genius move

@@willyvereb For German standards the Puma in 2000s becomes already obsolet for the modern war scenario. So Germans planned to build the Lynx using the technology of the Puma and the Boxer for eliminated the defects of the Puma. But the lynx is only for export market now because the Germans are busy with the French in the Main ground Combat System (MGCS) project.

    • @willyvereb
      @willyvereb Před 2 lety +3

@@CriscCiaddu Eh, I can see Rheinmetall using that to gain extra funds for the project but it's really more of "let's make something out of parts that is known to work". A fallback plan for the Puma's failure. In terms of concept the Lynx is a step back from the Puma. The thing is just that the Puma was built almost a decade ago and thought up even earlier so a lot of technology inside the vehicle is outdated. So I predict a long and costly upgrade process for the Puma which may result in replacing most of the vehicle with Rheinmetall parts.

Gen 5 or 6 will be an integrated drone command platform, with crewed wehicles commanding groups of unmanned drone wehicles. There is no need for a generationshift until then. Sadly the programming side is the main weakness at BAE Hägglunds. Unless they get the sales of this generation wehicles to fund further development, they will probably not rectify it. They are superior at the basic mechanical engineering though. This is the platform you want for peacekeeping operations for the next 10 years. For an active war though, the next war will be fought mainly with uncrewed wehicles, and with hacking to detect, jam, steal control or fool sensors being a major part of the operation. The CV90 is still a good platform for carrying your forward command-and-operations crew who service and control said drones, but will probably not be a front-line combatant.

I have been a CV90-35NL commander for years since they entered service.
I have seen the upgrade for this model to come as close to this Mk4.
    One question...
Where the F... do does the backpack going, that of the crew and the infantery...
It is funny to have a ATGM and other gatgets... Who is gonna aim that thing what is taking up 'backpack-space'?
Back in the day, I have send in an idea to give the commander an GPMG (FN MAG) and a mount for a PzF AT rocket launcher.
Because, the way we fought with the CV90, we were too fast to use a IFV as a tank would 'saw' from position to hide.
And the PzF on the mount would be just for the flash seconde.
The infantery would do the tank hunting. That is why we were so fast... And when we located a tank, the infantery would kill it.
Now we have crap all over the turret and everything is doomed to fail, and computers need their 20th reset for the day...
Just give the commander its cupola with a MG and PzF. I think that would be simpel enough to work. Even by hand.
But yeah... I send in 4 good idea's in, to improve the CV90-35NL in easy, mostly cheap, way's. Even safety stuff was among them... Never heard anything.
That would probably be too good to be true I think.

The CV90MKIV is meant as an export vehicle for countries with specific doctrines. The military you served probably relied on infantry as tank-killers. But some countries would like to have extra fire power with the new ATGM because it can help them reduce the cost of adding additional MBT to the armored unit.

@@swedi3571 There is a section where the same discussion came up where I explained my point further.
BAE Hägglunds might be Swedish but I dought that they will devolop already existing systems again just to say its Swedish. Things like Battlemanagementsystems, Firecontrolsystems, Active Protection Systems, Fire Prevention Systems are most likely licensed by BAE itself and lent/ purchased by Hägglunds to reduce coast. Even the ATGM with the camera guidance 6:24 is an Israeli weapon system. Vehicles of this capacity cannot be made by a Nation alone anymore. Germany is currently trying it with the Puma, but we all know how this is going. It's a way to expensive weapon suite that had so far 3 iterations before going into service. Currently, even this vehicle with his 25 in service is using the before mentioned Israeli ATGM for now (There are actually tests with an inhouse variant that has IFF capabilities). Getting to a point. It's a European product and that's fine. You can be proud of it.
