    BAE had NOTHING to do with CV90s developement.
    CV90 was developed in the late 80´s and introduced in the early 90´s, Alvis Vickers bought Hägglund in 94, after CV90 was introduced.

      He said:" In 1985 the STRV 90 was a project group made up of representatives of the swedish armed forces, the swedish defense administration and contractors, including Hägglund and Bofors.
      These Contractors would be behind the CV90 build in future iterations.
      Hägglung would become part of BAE Systems and the project groups search for a new IFV, they finalised the design for a new vehicle that came from an air force concept"
      Hägglund was only bought by Alvis Vickers AFTER the CV90 was finalised and production orders were given by the swedish MOD. This was in 1994. BAE came 10 years later.

    3:55 The CV90 currently comes with five different gun options:
    + CV9030: 30 mm Bushmaster II autocannon
    + CV9035: 35 mm Bushmaster III autocannon
    + CV9040: 40 mm Bofors autocannon
    + CV90105: 105 mm rifled CN 105 C2
    + CV90120: 120 mm smooth bore CTG 120 L50
    Sweden is the only country that bought the CV9040 and those are the ones that were given to Ukraine.
    The CV9030 was developed for Norway and is also used by Finland and Switzerland. It may seem a bit strange to reduce the caliber of the gun but it means there's room for far more shells so it can keep firing for longer. The CV9040 can carry 232 rounds, the CV9030 about 600.
    The CV9035 was developed for the Netherlands who wanted something in between. It is also used by Denmark and Estonia.
    Nobody has bought the CV90120 yet and I don't think the CV90105 is in sevice anywhere either.

    Warriors sadly does not hold its own compared to the CV90. The CV90 is the gold standard of IFV design and there is a reason why Ukraine wants their own factory to build these. The Swedish 40mm is powerful enough to defeat tanks in the flank and with 3P programmable ammo each rou d has 6 modes of attack.
    We have all seen the video from Ukraine how it took 2 Bradleys to overcome 1 T90. Well, Russia sends in 2 T90s whenever Ukraine deploys 1 CV90

    The system is build to be modular and upgradable, that was a main requirement when the specified the order for the vehicle. Not only makes the CV90 fill a lot of different roles like AA, mortar, antitank (with 120mm canon) etc, but also you can upgrade one module at the time

    • @andreassjoberg3145
      @andreassjoberg3145 Před měsícem +1

      The 105 and 120mm cannons variants need special reinforcements, basically it's own chassi. Still if you want a gun-carrier for 120mm smoothbore, a CV90 is cheap, light and fast compared to most MBTs. There is also scout-variant with a binocular periscope on an extendable mast, there is a design for field-ambulance version, for a resupply-carrier version (ammocarrier) but I don't think they have prototypes of the last ones. The time when CV90 truly shines is IF (nobody did this yet) you have a corps with a few of the 120mm, a bunch of the 40mm a bunch of the mortar versions, a few scouts with a drone-operator squad in the back. All using the same platform, the same spare parts, the same controls. OPERATING that unit becomes so much easier for the logistics crew than if you got completely different platforms for everything. Hägglunds other tracked platform, Beowulf, got versions with radars, with AA guns/missiles and headquarters-wehicles. Combine with the Archer platform for artillery support and you got a complete corps. Wish they would make a new version of old "Bandkanon" so artillery could be tracked too. If Sweden had 100M population instead of 10M you would see this in full deployment, but as it is now, we got to small wallet to play.

    • @xifel72
      @xifel72 Před měsícem

      All CV90 can engage aerial target, but are not optimized for it. There is the LvKv version, that have a integrated air defence radar for it, and better elevation for the cannon. Of course it uses the same cannon, but considering the 40 mm is a AA gun, that just makes sense.

    Sweden sent the 9040c to Ukraine. That is, the latest in-service variant, not some older they found in a shed. The C variant does not have the ATGM in the turret though.

    • @znail4675
      @znail4675 Před měsícem +4

      C is not really the latest version as it's a variant not a version. C is the variant designed for international use with extra features like air conditioning for hot climates and extra protection against improvised explosives. All the of those basic variants A, B and C are in use in Sweden and getting upgrades to new versions like C1 and C2 etc. So when Swedish military say they sent the latest version so could that be any of A, B or C. But there were only ever 50 C variants made so it couldn't have been all C sent.
      It's possible that the latest batch sent to Ukraine were C though as Sweden is getting new ones to replace the C.

    A correction, the CV 90 was originally for 8 troops but later they changed it to 7 since the urge for more equipment storage was needed. There is also 2 hatches over the troop inside at the length of the seats so they can have them open and observe the terrain.
    They have also variants ( Lvkv 90A-D) with the 40 mm m/70Bb that is for the variant that can fight for example helicopters with programmable air burst ammunition. It has an attached radar. There are heaps of versions from SPAAG, SPM, EWF, ARV, FOV, FCV and much more.

    The MKIV version has a "minimal hull" profile making it among the hardest to detect by human means. It also has anti-sensor technology in electrical and mechanical sense. Its mobility is unmatched by any IFV out there. Its scaleable and task-related capabilities are also unmatched. Firepower Is anything from 30 to 120mm. Its fully stabilized fire under an advanced fire control system all-day capability. It shoots hole on hole even on the move. Its electronic architecture meets the latest demands and is actually ahead of the curve. Based on the active and passive offensive and defensive systems running on graphic processors to be able to present net-centric situation awareness in real-time. A system that utilizes machine learning and AI. Add to that a drive train and active suspension making it. as the market known it as, the best IFV on the market and a friend to the mech. soldiers. Ajax is a new system that, with its prerequisite does not have the capabilities the CV90 have. Why did the UK go for General Dynamics prospect when they could have had the Swedish-developed SEP - a system based on the CV 90 but on steroids. As the UK defence ministry said then -"It's a too complicated system". It had hub engines, or a hybrid drive on more than one engine and anything the CV90 had. All easy to upgrade. It was so modular that you could reconfigure a wheeled vehicle to a tracked one. And the track record of Högglunds is spotless when it comes to product development, delivery and quality. My opinion is that the UK would have got a better deal going with the CV90 derivative.
