Thanks for the update Dan. I reach out to Asetek yesterday mainly for that rubbering (bumps stop whatever is called) and software. Look like RaceHub 140 is out ... just updated mine, but they seem to avoid the rubbering topic for now. I send a more direct Q today again. What worked for me in all this time was to cut 0.5cm of the white elastomer (softest) and this prove to be helping with both lap times and consistency. Fingers crossed.

Since i mostly bought the la prima to later upgrade the break pedal i dont mind the issues now, but it is still great insight from you, so thanks for the info now i know how to tweak the break better
So, take the Heusinkveld throttle pedal, replace the spring with elastomer and you basically have what the Forte brake pedals are.

Awesome review. Very appreciated of your insight in the engineering aspect of the "Asetek" load cell design and taking it apart. It was a shock to me (I am a 30+ yr optical-electronics engineer myself) - 180Kg load cell design when you can apply full load with your fingers ??? Again an excellent review; almost decided to pull the trigger on these pedals.
What does it matter how the pressure is measured? Important is the resolution and the force building up without much throw.
The Asetek does do that very good. The pedal is stiff much stiffer than HE sprint, these pedal got a lot of throw not very realistic.
Trail braking is very good controllable but you need time to adapt from weaker pedals like the HE sprint.

I’ll stick with the sprints for now. What’s upsetting is having to use a work around. These “toys” are quite expensive, so they need to be good right out of the box. The Invictas are great I hear but glad I ended up with HE. Very thorough review.

Thanks for that review man! The fact that you noticed and figured out how they really work is awesome. Those asetek pedals are so overhyped at the moment, i am glad that you put out a real review, and havent just said that they are basically like the invicta. I think its a total shame to sell this tiny loadcell and spring construction for that price. The software update doesnt really fix the cheap hardware. The new pagani pedals are showing pretty much what asetek is all about: a lot of marketing talk and a huge profit.
yes, but no. i dont think it is just marketing talk, they have good plans, listen to the podcast at overtake gg, but that bluf on the forte is a little bit cheap, i was really looking forward for this product as a loadcell alternative,they are relativ new company in the simracing scene and can learn a lot in the future, also the invicta isnt a bad product
@@AdamFunke94 i have already listened to all of theyr videos, and most if it is just marketing. I am sure the products are not bad, but they also dont live up to the hype. For example the biggest selling point of the invicta pedals was the 2 stage system, the „realistic“ feel, and the low price for a hydraulic pedal set. But the 2 stage system was even described wrong in theyr own videos, and is just a gimmick at the end. What mimics the brakepad to disc travel is probably the tiny play at the beginning, after that the first stage should be for building up pressure and modulating the brake, and the second stage for hard braking. Its described different in theyr own videos, but then it would make no sense. If the first stage would be for the pad to disc travel, we should deadzone the whole first stage inside of the software. But then you would have to hit the second stage to get any braking in your sim, what cant be realistic or useful at all. Racecar brakes are adjustable and not rock hard without any travel. In some cases they are, but definitely not in every racecar. Also a hard brake pedals is something that was around long before asetek. They havent reinvented the wheel, they just did an outstanding job at marketing it as the next big thing that every simracer need to get. After seeing how theyr „loadcell“ pedals work, i would not be surprised to see a lot of shortcuts in theyr hydraulic invicta pedals too.

@@AdamFunke94 i would try to get second hand heusinkveld sprint or vrs pedals. People are ofter buying simracing gear, but end up selling parts because they want to upgrade to something more expensive. So i would aim for a second hand loadcell pedal like the heusinkveld sprints for example. The sprints are great, and heusinkveld support will always help you out if something goes wrong with them. I would always prefer a good loadcell pedal over a bad or mediocre hydraulic pedal set. Hydraulics are awesome, but they are really pricey and ofter have problems with leaking. Many brands are using low end racing car parts on them, that are known for leaking. I wouldnt think about hydraulic pedals if you dont want to spend 1.5-3k€ on them. I think the sprints or vrs pedals would be a great choice for you man 👍
@@patrickdurka6188 i have already the thurstmaster t-lcm, but want to upgrade, the max pressure of 65kg is not enough for me on the heusinkfeld sprint, iam already max out the t-lcm of 100kg...
Now i would love to see whats inside of the invicta pedals. probably a lot of price efficiency 🤣🤣
Hey Dan, extremely valuable video, thanks for that. I'm interested in the new Sim-Lab pedals, they are similarly priced and also have some new patented loadcell system that (from the outside) looks very similar to this dual stage system. Do you know if they are "real" loadcell pedals or if they use similar shortcuts as Asetek?
I also tried the VRS, Venym Atrax and P1 Mistral in Dortmund yesterday, and liked all of them. I haven't seen any review of the P1 Mistrals online, but they use a haptic feedback that I found very hepful in the short test. Is this a gimmick in your opinion or could it be useful long-term?
So basicly brake pedal is expensive version of g29 pedal, where travel is measured by loadcell with fancy software, not by potentiometer ?
Hey this was really helpful, I think you should cut out the part where you break down editing the pedal response curves by hand and release it as a standalone video. I was searching for how to fix this and I think the video would help a lot of people
In normal racing I don't even get to the hard stage. Maybe I'll eventually change the brake module to THORP module, but for now I really enjoy using them. Appreciate your in depth review and opinion on them though!

Hi Dan, do you use a noise gate on your mic input? Just in update chapter it really was "choppy" and fatigue inducing for my listening. I'm not referring to editing choices. I listened on headphones and it was quite prominent. Or maybe it's just me 😜Thanks for this update by the way.

I only drive with socks. So I don't reach the 2nd level, because the elstomer soft is much too hard for me. I think a softer elastomer would be better when driving with socks.
So I got the official answer from Asetek: they will not replace the end-stop nut for me (and for all of us who purchase the Forte pedals up to this point). Disappointed with the approach but it is what it is. Good to remember in case you are considering the brand in future.
Maybe you can add an O-ring yourself which will simulate the new thicker rubber ring.🙂
I understand that using a cheaper load cell helps keep the price down and in theory this sound like it should work but fine but loosing that last bit of performance means a lot to a buyer looking to upgrade pedals for that exact reason? idk maybe I'm completely off the mark here, I have not used these pedals.
Yea, but a 200 kg load cell isn't more expensive - it's just another spec when ordering them.
I have Moza srp pedals would the forte pedals be a big upgrade or would be best to go simlab x1?
I just received mine yesterday and I am not impressed. Actually I like my old V3's more, but unfortunately its loadcell is getting crazy and showing reads all over the place, BUT the reason why I chose the Forte is that I am going to be able in the future to upgrade the loadcell to their hydraulic system. I wanted to buy the VRS but they are nowhere to be found, and even with a couple negatives reviews I saw - this one and another one I saw - I decided to go with them just because of the upgrade option in the future.
I’ve got these pedals to replace the sprints because I’ve maxed them out and I must say I find it very good. I don’t have issues trail braking and to me it feels like they are registering pressure fine since I can be pretty consistent. To be honest I find it to be better then the sprints which were to tall for me, the forte brake is shorter and I can modulate it better. The curves help a lot in setting them up just fine. I know it may not be a real pressure based system but it fells like one to me. Also they feel more like real car pedals.
I have sprints aswell, i thought they were high too, but i just unscrewed the plates and turned them upsidedown, feels perfect now
@@tobiasosterlin5139 I did the same but still they feel a bit too high… also 65kg is too weak for me I was always reaching maximum power.
Which rubber are you using right now? For me it’s to hard to trail brake with this pedals. I’m 1s+ slower than my previous fanatec pedals
@@briandrielsma7719 I was using the medium rubber. I’m now using the fanatec csl elite v2 which I find to be more precise since you can set the brake force in the software so you don’t need to keep recalibrate the pedals. With the forte I needed to recalibrate the pedals often because all the different customisation where changing a little bit from time to time.

So still no mechanical fix. The pedals still read pedal movement with a load cell, rather than actually reading pedal load.
So just another question. What gloves do you prefer to drive with? How are the Moradness ones?
My favorite gloves are the ones from -273. The Moradness gloves are very good too though, little less grip and a bit warmer.
What puts me off with these is that they a fixed to the plate.. Cant adjust the space between them.
You can move the pedal plates to make it closer or get more space in between them but no, you can’t move it. Not a problem for me but other pedals have more flexibility. Also I had to drill new holes in my rig because the layout is a bit unusual.
Recently found that video. I thought about buying these pedals but in my opinion they cheat. When the elastomere is worn out the force you need to break changes also. As you mentioned already they measure the way and not the force. It's basically like the old potentiometer based systems but with a load cell...
it's hard to make a choice between the sprint and the forte. If this is a issue for this pedals they won't be for me. This is hard for an amateur like myself. I'm looking for an update for my V3 who are send back to Fanatec after falls input into the braking system. What is the maximum load on the V3? What would be a good update?
Get the VRS DFP pedals and you will never need another pedal set!

@@AdamFunke94 dan has perfectly shown why its not a real pressure based system in the video you just watched. When putting in washers it should get hard like a brick, and it should be easy to reach the max force. And when using just the spring it should barely show any value. The test dan has made proves that its just a tiny loadcell (so that they can promote them as loadcell pedals), but with this weird spring setup they are basically just reading the position, and not the pressure on the pedals. The value that is given out by them doesnt react to different elastomers or real pressure, its more or less just reading the travel.

Using what looks like $5 load cells in these pedals is a shame.
I believe I have the reason for why they designed the load cell mechanism as they did. Race Beyond Matter recently made a video of the Simagic P1000 pedals and in that video he shows how all elastomers suffer from hysteresis. czcams.com/video/DwoYGepvOwo/video.htmlsi=UJNvtlFU4jsmQc_P&t=290
The way Asetek have designed the Forte makes me think it was a way to avoid the hysteresis issue of the elastomers. But the reason they still used a load cell rather than a hall sensor is the larger resolution needed to measure the near imperceptible movements towards the end of the pedal travel that a hall sensor would struggle to differentiate but a load cell would still pick up on.
This is kind of concerning. You are the first one to catch this and I have watched countless videos on these pedals. I ended up purchasing them and just got them and set them up. Hopefully I don't regret this 500 dollar purchase. So far I feel duped! I'm about to box them back up and send them back across the entire world where they came from. This is 100 % misleading advertisement.

Seams an odd way to utilise a loadcell. Why use a loadcell then replicate a potentiometer? I wonder if they have tried to replicate a break in a real race car. The problem with that is with the added gfource when breaking irl the application of even a small force is magnified as you are physically pushed I to the pedals by inertia. Obviously in your sim rig this doesn't happen so naturally a lower force is applied while trail breaking. Just a theory.
It happens with my seat mover. It can push me against the pedals.

I don't think you have really thought through what you are stating in this video.
TONS on load cell pedals have springs apply pressure to the load cell. The part that throws you off is that this spring is small and on other pedals they are roughly the size of the elastomer stack in line with them.
This setup is actually really smart because by containing the elastomer you can prolong its consistency and life. It cant over crush because it hits the walls of the container.
No, i think you didn’t get the point. This spring measures the angle of the pedal, not the pressure onto the pedalface.
@@DanSuzuki that's literally not true. It measures the pressure of the spring onto the load cell, while the elastomer provides the resistance your foot feels.
Yes, the distance of travel translates into the amount of pressure by the spring, but it's still measuring the load. The spring is just a method to offset the load so they can use a less complicated load cell. If their software accounts for the offset in force the spring applies there is no issue with this system.
Try replacing the elastomer with something solid, it will measure nothing

The spring is a "gear reducer" for lack of a better term. They have the ratio it reduces the force on the load cell programmed into their software. Functionally that spring is identical to any elastomer stack in any other load cell pedal. It's just a clever way to do it cheaper and more compact.
No, you just don’t understand it 😅 a lot of manufacturers use a small spring and cheap loadcell for throttle or clutch measuring the pedal travel, it’s just not very common on a brake since you want to measure load, not travel there. Some cheaper pedals like the Logitech g29 for example also measure travel on the brake.

The explanation is so untrue about how the Forte works. It IS pressure based readings. Just because the rubber doesn't touch the loadcell it doesn't mean it is not doing its work. My old V3 bent the loadcell unit because all the force applied onto it. The rubber here in this case is just to avoid applying on the loadcell itself. If you depress a spring you gonna feel that it gets stiffer, and that pressure combined with the very small loadcell makes the package complete.
So, once more, this review is not 100% true about what Dan says. Despite of being a big fan of the creator, I have to disagree with his assumptions.
A spring only gets stiffer with more travel, that spring here is converting the distance travelled into force on the load cell. Therefore the pedal will only measure travel, not the force applied to the pedal.
@@davidkoall2284 that's exactly what happens with the elastomers, right? How further you depress it, how hard it gets. The same concept, right!? You could place something else instead of the spring and it work exactly the same way.
@@juanramosb.4029 if you place anything elastic in there instead of the spring then it will be exactly the same, it will measure travel distance, albeit with a different curve (due to different elasticity)
What people actually want for muscle memory is to measure force, a normal Load Cell pedal will give the same reading when you apply 50kg to the pedal, no matter what elastomers you put into it and how far the pedal travels.
These will show a different value depending on your elastomers (because softer elastomers will let the pedal travel further at 50 kg). You could have achieved that with a Hall Sensor or Potentiometer just the same.
