The acting is so natural, nothing is forced, and the chemistry between all the characters, particularly basil and Sybil is spot on, the way he says “ Dear” like he has known her and been married to her for yrs, all the other characters are perfect, that’s why it’s so iconic, it’s easily one of the best Sitcoms, of all time. They certainly found lightning in a bottle here, and the fact they only made 12 episodes is testament to that, the spark didn’t last long.

When Basil finally loses it at Sybil and puts her in her place (last scene), it was such a satisfying moment in the series. It was almost as if Sybil finally backed down and respected him for growing a spine after years of abuse. And then of course it all blows up in Basil's face and he loses even more respect 😂

I agree with an other lot of people, who would have voted for the episode "The Germans, don't mention the war."
But maybe those people like me, are from the mainland.
After many decades I learned a much more about England, so I do understand a little bit more. But still, I still cry my eyes out laughing, when Basil does not want to talk about the war to the Germans... but he was so much occupied not talking about the war... that he could not help him self, doing it all the time (and even initially thought he got away with it).
OMG, it was so brilliant when the German told Basil to stop talking about the war!
And Basil answered: but you started it!
The German said; no we did not.

Obv' wished they'd done more or located some old unreleased ones/Pilot epsiodes' etc, but maybe that'd spoil the uniqueness of 12 episodes have watched for Decades that NEVER TIRE. (Top listS)

I'm a bit surprised that dialogue 'You started it! You've invaded Poland!' wasn't
featured in the top 5 but I must say, the scene involving Manuel who knows 'naa...thing!' about the horse was 😂 hilarious.

At 1:50 Ahh right. NOW it all makes sense. John Cleese did an advert for SpecSavers in Australia some years ago and used this scene as the skit. Wasnt sure of the significance of it, but now I understand... i havent seen every FT episode. Most (but not all).

Classic high quality tv entertainment. Compared to the crap the bbc is presenting for ages you can only praise the Lord he made this possible and Monty Python of course.
