THERE'S SOMETHING SPECIAL ABOUT AOA BAY, AMERICAN SAMOA | Going Out of Our Way for Fun & Relaxation

- The village of AOA, AMERICAN SAMOA is not on the way to anywhere, which means no one gets there by accident. I think it's safe to say that most people have never been there at all...
But we're here to tell you that those people are missing out!
The village is quiet and well cared for. The beach is sandy, with plenty of sun and shade. The water is calm and safe, protected by the reef, far off-shore. The locals are kind and friendly.
But there's also just something about Aoa that we can't be put into words, but that we feel every time we go, that makes it like no other place we've ever been.
There's just something that makes it so special!
Tell us in the comments below if you've been to Aoa and what you think makes it a special place.
Thanks for watching!

Thank You for including our little humble village to be a part of your youtube journey. Hope you guys come around again.
We definitely will. We can’t get enough of Aoa.
Wow, I want to move to Aoa!
@Combat Infantry hahaha ayyee
Thank you for being respectful and for reminding me how much I miss home.
Thank you for your video it brought back many memories. My father was the principal of AOA school in 1965. He was the pioneer of the satellite teaching that you were speaking of. We moved from AOA to Nu u uli 1966 after a hurricane destroyed the village. President Lyndon B Johnson and Lady Bird visited the school there. She was very interested in the work my father and his colleges had done with satellite teaching, funny now it's called zoom. We showed him your video, he is now 91. Hope to return to visit some day; my childhood there was amazing
Talofa, been going through your vids, spotted this one. Back early 70s when pops took us to Samoa (and left us until he retired from the Coast Guard, mom was livid when he returned without us), but I digress. Anyway way, we had a choice of staying in Fagasa or Aoa...we chose the latter. Hurricane destroyed my uncle's home right on the beach. He used to be the Police Chief Investigator. But yeah, my legs got their first scars from the coral reef there. I mean tore us up. But best place to grow up...memories. Thank you guys, I mean it. And the school...yeah, definitely stirred up memories. Never had a seawall there though. Have you been to Aunu'u yet? Got family there to. Interesting little island to visit. Tofa!
Aoa, my husband's home sweet home: Alofa C. Togia😍it's beautiful there❤️thanks for sharing your experiences😃
Aoa...miss it. Went to school there for a year before moving to Fagasa. You're right on televised educational programs. Kids from as far as Tula attended as well as those from Sailele. As a kid I was impressed with the education back then. Snorkeling...miss it as well. Aoa had one of the most beautiful, colorful, healthy reefs back in the day. I got scarred legs to prove it, lol. Soifua guys, again, Thanks for stirring up the memories.
Our pleasure 😊 Nate’s the only one who has snorkeled there, I guess I need to slap on a mask and get out there too.
You really should visit Sa'ilele, 💚💛 that's my village😍 you'll love the sandy beach. Thanks for sharing
We’ll definitely get back over that way soon.
Beautiful 😍
My husband when we were dating back in the days, keeps missing the turn to go to my village Aoa😊😊 Thank you for including my beautiful village in your CZcams video. Much alofa to your family. ❤️❤️😊
😂😂 It’s an easy mistake to make. Maybe he just wanted to an excuse to spend more time with you 😉

Thank you for sharing home with some of us are in the Mainland, you guys are lucky going to the beach almost every day, not like some of us stuck in the desert ( Las Vegas) in a 110° weather, fa'afetai lava for sharing life in the island like we were when we were kids. God bless you guys and be safe out there.
Thank you! Yes, we’ve talked about if we moved, where we would go, but after living so close to the ocean for so long, we can’t think of anywhere else we could afford to live so close 😄
love this , thank you for sharing my dad grew up here..he was so proud to be from AOA!!
I can understand why, it feels like Paradise there ❤️
When you're a native but haven't even been to half the places in your own island 🤦🏻♀️🤦🏻♀️ I love your channel!

Born n Raised🍹👨✈️👨🎓💑👙🍺🏀🏈🎼🔊🏁
You should visit the next village over...Sa'ilele! Nice sandy beaches, especially the end closest to Aoa.
We love Sa’ilele! We’ll go do another video over there sometime soon.
Ive always heard of Sa'ilele but we couldnt pass the terrible road pass Masausi village. I heard they paved the road tho! It will be on my list next time
This looks like the perfect place to retire too. Especially if you want peace and quiet, and to live life alone, almost like a hermit. This village especially looks very clean, tranquil and postcard perfect. Love it.
It's a perfect place to get retired and live out the rest of your dying days..
THATS MY ELEMENTARY SCHOOL!!! Thank you for sharing! :)
Wow 😳 glad I stumbled across this video. I don't even remember how old I was when I left home maybe 7 or 8 years old back then after the hurricane annihilated my home and school. That is my home you are parked in front of lol my father's beach front property. I never went back but lately I've been anxious to come home. Can't wait to come home get familiar with the life we left behind. My home sweet home Vaiaga. I only recognize the seawall and school there by my property lol Thanks so much for the video.
What a place to grow up! Hurricanes can be serious business. We consider ourselves very lucky to have not been affected too badly by one yet. Hopefully you’ll be able to come back home soon. ❤️
Your comment on the YV lessons in the schools is correct. I remember growing up and learning English language through a tv program. The instructors name was David loman. I don’t know if he was actually on island or recorded tapes but they were broadcasted in all the schools to teach English. Tanks for sharing this video it brought back a lot of memories and a child growing up on the islands. I’m from Pago Pago village.
Oops o I meant tv lessons
Lol. Yes!!!😂😂😂 we learned English watching a broadcast on TV. AND don’t forget Electric Company and the other one with the yellow big bird😂😂😂.
My parents are Both born and raised in Western Samoa and moved to New Zealand and started their family where me and my two younger siblings were born and raised. I now live in England United Kingdom and would love to take my wife and kids to Samoa one day. You guys are truly blessed and loving your guys videos and your family adventures🙌🏽❤️
Love the video! Looking forward to more :) Alofas 💕
You guys make me miss home, thanks for the uploads!
Thank you for this wonderful post of my beautiful village. I really miss home and was very proud and homesick at the same time seeing this. This is where I grew up; I went to that Elementary school back in the late 60's early 70's, and my ancestors are laid to rest there waiting for us to return home... Have a blessed day!!!
Sis. Thanks for sharing this. Brought back so many happy memories.
You’re very lucky to have grown up in such a special place!
Great job AmSamFam!
Loved being able to see my dad's village again. Thanks for sharing!
That's pretty cool. It's been a couple years since I've been back to my home village of Aoa, but it's nice to see if from someone else's perspective. It's funny that he said Aoa had a reverent quiet to it, because growing up, the nick name constantly hear about Aoa from the other villages near us, was "Aoa pa'o", meaning noisy or rowdy. lol
😄 The few times we’ve been there, it’s always been very peaceful and quiet. We need to meet this rowdy crowd for a new Aoa experience 😄
Yes brother..i think it’s time for you to come back home...ps lil bro 😂😂
great vid!!
Thank you for showing the video is was awesome
love your videos of the beautiful islands of AMSAMOA! keep them coming! Lots of love and support from California!

Thanks so much for sharing us Aoa , I have never been there ever and it’s beautiful! Also, great snorkeling tip with the hat backwards, we all know what a small drip of Irish blood can do lol😎🏝
I grew up in Amouli and this really brought me some great memories..thank you guys😊👍
At least it wasn't pronounced, "aeeyah",..hhh love your vids. Mālo lava amsamfam.
I guess it could have been worse. Thanks for watching and commenting!
Thanks for a mesmerizing video
I love it when you said you don’t even turn on the radio. Keep it tranquil.
Thanks for sharing! This is a beautiful capture of my village. Born and raised in that village. My family and I were just there is December.

Great Job AM FAM.
Yes, I remember Aoa. I have a sister who live in the village of Sailele which is next to Aoa. You all should check it out there. It's pretty secluded but it has a nice beach.
So nice to see green clean area there
You guys are doing great and wonderful things! I love your videos I am so jealous of you guys! I left the rock with no stress and now I’m in Vegas with the heat, COVID-19, stress and no ocean to play in!!😭 keep up the great work
We feel ya! We left all those things (well, not COVID, it wasn’t around yet) to find a place where we could slow down and enjoy life. This really is a special place, huh?! Take care and breathe 🧘💗

You guys are more than welcome to visit any time and keep up wit the good work....take care and be safe out there ones again Thank You very much 🙏 🙏 😊
Home Literally right in front of our home
Lucky you!
Thanks for the video and trip down memory lane. I used to snorkel in that bay every day after school. Forgot the Samoan name for a break in the reef that allows water to flow back out to sea (ava?) but one day got too ambitious in my snorkeling and almost got washed out into the break and into the outbound current.....that reef break is very deep..
Should still be a path on the east side of the bay you can take around the point and to the village of Onenoa.
So excited to check it out! Ive lived here for almost 3 years amd never knew Aoa existed back up and thru and down there. 😊 Thanks Melinda and Nate for sharing these places I need to go and explore while Im here! 👍🏾 Love seeing you guys around town! 😊
Thanks! We love when people introduce themselves, so make sure to say hi 👋 And definitely check out Aoa, it’s worth the up, through, and down 😄
Have y’all visited Vaitogi village? Have you heard of the Turtle & Shark legend? If not you definitely need to visit Vaitogi village and have some kids who’s from the village take you to shore and sing the Shark & Turtle song and see it for yourself!
We have! 😃 We’ve been to Vaitogi a bunch of times and we watched the song once, but it was too dark to see anything. We’ll have to try again another time when we can see in the water ❤️
Definitely going visit Aoa 🥰 I grew up more Westside Leone and lil paradise island of Aunuu my late dad's family. Thanks so much 🙏 💓 ☺️
You guys should visit Fagalua downstairs in Futiga its like a 30 min hike down
Oh, I've never even heard of that one. We'll definitely have to go check it out. Thanks for telling us about it!
I went to that elementary school back in da days. Yes that is original
That’s my village. The Aioletuna family. We used to own a little tourist place right outside the village
Awesome!
You guys always find the great spots in Am. Samoa. I see the new upgrades in the video production and it’s always a pleasure to watch. Glad you found some Redbull, Nate...oh and I’m glad you were able to prounce the village Amouli, Melinda...all those vowels and all those villages almost sound the same. Thanks for making time to share these great clips. I always get nostalgic when I see a lot of the old stomping grounds. So proud of you guys and keep the videos coming. Alofa atu.
Thanks for noticing the video production. We’ve been working hard too make it better.
Nice day time is low tide but at night it gets high tide and rough but its quite village but those frogs by the school where the water flows out to the ocean gets loud at night lol
Looks awesome! Dawn dish detergent is great for cleaning glasses... specifically Dawn. I kept hearing this , tried it and it's true. Gets skin oils and crud off frames and lenses with no damage to plastics, glass or metal. I guess it's just the formulation of that brand. I'm not advertising for them or anything, but Dawn does do a really good job on glasses.
Snorkeling is a lot of fun...a high school thing for me , when I lived in Florida...
Thanks for the dish soap trick...
So beautiful beautiful!❤❤❤❤❤😎
Love to see more of your videos
Thanks 😊
My husband and I are watching ur fam from utah. My husband got so excited to watch bcos most of his family is from Aoa n Sailele. His saying don’t missed the turn to Aoa now lol this his first time watching your video. It looks beautiful n da ocean looks calmer, I only been to sailele but not to Aoa but he lives there all his life. Enjoy the ocean n it’s calmer 🐚🐚
Next visit you’ll have to be sure to get out to Aoa!
Man thank you for visiting my home ....I grew up in Aoa went to Olomoana Elementary ECC use to be at my Auntys Falekalimalo at the a’ai... ...I’m coming back home Aoa .....
Lucky you!! There really is something special about Aoa ❤️
If I recall correctly, Amanave and Poloa also had sandy beaches. What’s sad is that a lot of our beaches used to have lots of sand but now they are so rocky. Changes in the environment and also ppl used to take sand from the beaches in huge bags to mix with their dirt and cement to build their houses, cover their dirt roads, mix with their cement to make graves, etc
Every once in a while I’ll see a truck parked next to a beach and a bunch of guys filling up the back with sand from the beach. I don’t know what they’re using it for. Probably construction, like you mentioned. Maybe something else. Either way, it really bums me out when I see it because you’re right, the beaches don’t have as much sand as they did in older pictures of the island.
Oh my this is so beautiful 😍!! It looks incredibly relaxing there. I totally understood what you meant about turning down your radio. This looks like the type of village you would hear laughter of children, and possibly the sound of local music softly playing, basically HEAVEN!
I do have a question about the covered shelter type buildings seen quite often in your videos. They have open sides, are those meeting spaces, general open spaces for relaxing?? Everything about AS just looks so beautiful and intriguing.
They’re called Fales (pronounced fall-aye). They’re used for so many things in the Samoan culture. Definitely for village/family meetings, for guests to sleep in, or for a shady spot to retreat to and relax in during the hottest hours of the day. Thanks for watching and commenting!
Palolo fishing season now....Wednesday night to Thursday morning....Aoa is a great place to fish for some
We saw a bunch of lights out last night. Haven’t heard yet if the night was successful.
Informative
And the hat trick genius...
Lol 😂 good idea to wear a hat.🤙
Thank you for sharing...Beloved Aoa - My Mother's Village PULU/MAUI'A family - I lived there - my father is laid to rest there...Thank you for sharing our village home. #AOA
What a beautiful home ❤️
Thank you for sharing. I spent part of my youth growing up there so I attended the elementary school for a few years. They were some of my favorite memories growing up. It is my dad’s ancestral home and he and his ancestors are laid to rest there in the village. Enjoy your time there.
I can’t imagine a better resting place 💗
AmSamFam It is very peaceful, beautiful and close to the waters.
You guys really do some great videos! Thank you for sharing🙏
Faafetai, Sam! Your kind words mean a lot to us!
Thanks for sharing your living adventures. My family’s village is pronounced “A-mo-u-li” 😉
Thank-you! Some of the village names are harder than others for our unpracticed palagi tongues. 😊
No worries! I love how your kids are such troopers and are embracing living in Tutuila. You all even go hiking in slippers! By the way, I think I was the 5,000th subscriber 😁 The count was 4.99K then I subscribed and voila - it became 5,000 👍🏽😊
Really tranquil beach ..do you/use drone ..... ? To get some beautiful aerial scenery
A little. It’s a new method to us. We still have a lot to learn about using drones to shoot footage, buts it’s been fun and has resulted in some unique shots.
My mothers village….❤️❤️❤️
That tribal tattoo on arm is awesome
Wow I miss home . You guys should go to the beach in Alao.
That was one of the first beaches we went to when we moved here. It’s incredibly beautiful there! But some strong currents. We’ll definitely have to go back and share the lessons we learned there 😊
It's nice seeing the kids walk around barefoot I miss it. Now that I've been living in the US my feet hasn't gotten used to walking barefoot outside anymore only on sand, grass, and inside the house 😂
Aoa easy to pronounced owa. Hope that helps. Also you guys should visit Sailele.
Amazing as i never knew how big it really was. Is there much accommodation there at all? Sorry for asking.
In the actual village of Aoa? I don’t believe so. It’s possible that there’s an Airbnb, but I’m not positive. It’s not too terribly far from the major hotels on island, though. Maybe a 30 minute drive, which is quite beautiful in and of itself.
AmSamFam Thank you so much. Is it expensive to get a nice villa or something in the heart of town? I love all your videos and how you went shopping this Morning as much parter was happy as he seen the drinks he drinks for his gym lol. It’s good seeing all the different foods and just the island. We seen a place where you can hire cars so that is awesome. Just love your videos thank you. Awesome family. 🌻
i love that you have come to love the samoan way --- first - snacks LOL
Haha, you get it 🤙
If you were a dog, what would your name be? I like how he said Dookie. That sounds like a good name for a cute dog. That place looks nice and peaceful.
This is my grandma's village :D
Y’all should check out Masefau Bay as well.
We’ve been there, it’s also beautiful. All these bays along the north side are just incredible ❤️
Okay 👌
That backwards hat 🧢 tip is definitely a pro tip! To this day I prefer not to get sun burnt 🥵 anywhere on my body especially on my neck and face. 🤙🏽
Thanks, Pene (OK nickname?)! Love your comments. Thanks for watching!
is the border there open to american's now? what are the scamdemic restrictions?
i lived in hawaii for 11 years in the 90's and early 2000's...i love polynesian people and their simple, grateful lifestyle. i sailed to mexico many years ago, and am considering where to sail next as things get worse...
i am enjoying seeing american samoa through your family's eyes...thank you.
i guess if i watch some more, i will learn what brought you to live there...what part of american samoa you live in...and what work sustains you there...
wishing you all the best!
