For those who don't know Rob burrow was a very successful rugby league player who despite his short stature was one of the best and most consistent scrum halfs in the game. In 2019 he announced he was suffering from Motor neurone disease, its a fantastic book and even if you're not a fan of rugby I think you'll like it too. (Rob was on my rivals team too but the bloke was an excellent player and I wish him and his family nothing but the best)

@Benedict Hampus went to Newcastle v Leeds years ago waited for hours to get shearers autograph I was only young at the time. Went straight past all the fans wouldn’t even look at us. Gary speed came over and signed every autograph absolute gent. I’m a Newcastle fan and they always say don’t meet your heroes 😂 he’s a very ignorant man I’ve heard other stories too off people I’ve met saying the same. Only gets nice when there’s a camera on

For me the Premier Leagues best ever striker. Missed quite a few games through some serious injuries and still finished with that amazing record
and a few goals the year before it became the Premier League as well. Would have had 300+ easy without the big injuries

We used to give Shearer so much s**t at Old Trafford but it was genuinely a sign of respect. The guy was incredible. Even at our best he was that one player we knew could still be the difference. Best striker to ever grace the Prem.

Great shout with Matt Le Tissier he was the first footballer when I was growing up that used to leave me open mouthed and gobsmacked with what he could do with a ball. I'm in no way comparing him to the players of today like Messi and Ronaldo but any young kids reading this who don't know who he is or never got to see him play please CZcams him he was unbelievable.
Matt did something that showed real courage, and that was speaking out against the establishment, like Jokavic, and for me that will always make his bravery stand way above others that take the knee for their corporate paymasters.
Love Gary Neville, very likeable personality and brings us fans some great punditry, Alan Shearer... Legend

as an Aussie living in the UK in early 90s pretty blessed to have all these players getting shearer was one player i would have loved at utd him mentioning le tissier at the end made me smile even the smaller clubs had guns back then

really annoys me how some seem to not like shearer as a pundit. he's salt of the earth. funny, concise with his analysis of games and can take as much as he gives. proper geordie lad. oh and an absolute footballing LEGEND.

My old work place brings back memories, for those that don’t know the area it’s shepherd offshore land where sub sea umbilicals are made by two different company’s and big Al was close friends with Freddie, for those who have not met big Al he’s a great bloke no aires and grace’s just a down to earth lad and one hell of a centre forward regardless of who you support. 👍

These videos are just brilliant. Great entertainment and a great insight into players as people. Hearing Alan talk about the book he read, the mental strength the guy needed and how inspirational it was to him was very grounding.
like him or hate him, gary is very good at what he does. he can do analysis, commentate and play presenter/interviewer very naturally.

We met alan in Swansea 2 years ago, took pics with us signed the landlords Newcastle scarf and when we went to pay for our meals we was told shearer paid, blew us away an absolute legend

90% of shearer's game was his football brain. He wasn't blessed with pace but his positional sense was above and beyond. A true football legend with a rocket of a right foot.

I know there must be footballers now that have their heads and hearts in the right place, BUT, Shearer and the England team that played at EURO 96, those guys had something i feel is missing so much in todays footballers. I do feel Social media and the internet has diluted people and the magic and fabric of life somehow, and Alan has this strength of character in bucket loads.

If you were to put somebody into a machine and wanted to make the perfect striker Alan Shearer would come out. The man had it all. He was quick, deadly on both feet, brilliant header of a ball, volleys, free kicks, penos and above all was a very clever and nasty footballer. A defenders nightmare.

Majority of his career he was linked with a move to man utd deal was prettymuch complete but he wanted to move to his boyhood club.Dont say he has a soft spot for Liverpool just cause he respects them if that was the case then he had talked about and praised Man utd all his career so he should have a big soft spot for Man Utd. Liverpool were top dogs in 80s.

Still for me the best striker in prem history. The numbers are just insane for a player who didn't play for one of the best teams.
And the amount of quality centre backs and aggressive midfielders he was up against compared to now..
And two serious injuries that put him out for ages.
They signed him to win the league, yes they didn't but how wasn't he with one of the best teams at the time??
