      @fakecubed Před 4 měsíci +1

      They have an entire engineering department, they're on a schedule, and they're worried about not being in range of the captain's shuttle. They should have sent over a full team of engineers to fix the problem as quickly as possible, along with a modest security detail to make sure the aliens don't pilfer any engineering equipment while the engineers are distracted. If that seems like overkill to anyone, so what? It's a training opportunity for the crew. What else are they doing all day?
      I actually blame Geordi for this, quite a bit. He shouldn't be letting his ego get in the way and deciding to fix everything personally. He should be working to improve the capabilities and careers of his crew. Bring that new girl with him to teach her some hands on real world stuff she hasn't seen in an Academy classroom. Bring another more experienced engineer that he can count on to do most of the work while he supervises, so that more experienced engineer can improve his resume. Bosses should be developing their people. That's their main job, really. Starfleet is building more ships all the time that need experienced officers who can lead their brand new engineering departments, and the Enterprise needs new more experienced officers to replace those who will be moving on.
      Riker should know this too, which is why he should insist Geordi take some other engineers with him, or better yet, send his #2 to lead the away team and get more experience in leadership.

I watched and waited, hoping to recognize his voice and finally see what Cobra Commander and Starscream actually look like in real life. No internet to image search the guy’s name.

      I never got the impression from "Farpoint" to now that the Klingons were a member; we just have a nonhostile relationship or weak alliance. I've always attributed this to a sloppy mistake made during a writers' strike.

      So the episode where the Enterprise recuses the rogue Klingons when the Enterprise is in contact with the Klingon ship you see not only the Klingon insignia behind but the Federation symbol as well giving the impression the Empire has joined the Federation.

      @@donovanbradford8231 Remember, that was a ruse. Worf deceived those Klingons. Into believing that the empire had conquered the federation.

    I mean I don't love Pulaski and I don't love season 2, but it seems like you guys sometimes look to invent reasons not to like something. No cameo from Gates McFdadden who was fired from the show? I mean you can complain that she was fired, but I don't think you can complain that she didn't get a cameo. And complaining that we don't know any of the surgeons is a bit silly too. It's world building, it's good to bring in characters that are new and not have everything revolve around just the small cast that we know.
    Picard's reason for not wanting Pulaski to do his surgery is not because he doesn't like her (as the audience doesn't like her) but rather he wants to reflect a certain persona upon his crew. Understanding this part of Picard is REALLY important to understanding his character, so I feel like ignoring that to focus on a dislike of Pulaski is really doing a disservice to the show. We get it that you don't like her, most of us don't like her either. It's also worth noting that it was really a tall task to replace Gates McFadden especially under the circumstances involved.

      You know what I learned the other day, Grant was one of the only U.S. Presidents arrested during his term. In 1872, he was arrested for speeding. Now, history buffs might be a little surprised by this as cars weren't invented yet, I know I was. I didn't know you could get pulled over on a horse.

    Roddenberry was apparently amused by the fact that doctors were referred to as “bone crushers”, as he gave McCoy his nickname, and named the doctor of the Enterprise-D Crusher.

    A mid episode for sure, while the Pakleds were at least different kind of threat to the crew of the Enterprise my favourite part of that plot was that it's the bond between the crew that allowed them to win through. The bond that comes from poker games and eating Rikers awful eggs and playing on the holodeck. Best scene is Picard and Wesley struggling to get along and finding a groove, with Picards amazing story.

    • @gershman23
      @gershman23 Před 4 měsíci +2

      I watched the show when it aired, putting aside the behind-the-scenes issues, while McFadden was loved by the rest of the cast, the general audience's response to Crusher, as well as fans was mediocre at best... I'd say she was just as much disliked as liked, if not more so...and thus, when Diana Muldaur(Much more well-known and proven actress) arrived, a lot of the fans were happy to see a female version of Bones.
      These guys' ridiculous hatred of the Pulaski character is just weird.

    • @txheadshots
      @txheadshots Před 4 měsíci

      The showrunner didn’t like Gates because she wouldn’t sleep with him… or so the rumor went
      And Pulaski was grossly unpopular on Usenet (think Quora or Reddit only text only)… she was Bones without the charm. Her distaste for Data was far beyond the friendly teasing Bones would do for Spock… it was downright hostile and some even called it racist of a sort. By this point, the writers tried to soften her abrasiveness but it was too late, people couldn’t get over how she treated fan favorite Data
