IMO that scene of Martha first entering the TARDIS is my favorite scene of a Companion being in the TARDIS for the first time, particularly when her theme swells as it pans around the inside.
In general I think the whole sequence of her family drama playing out in front of her before the Doctor shows up again is a good reflection of the experience of a DW viewer. Sometimes real life can suck and you need to get away from it all, luckily there’s a quirky alien with a magic box that can take you on all sorts of adventures for a bit.

A performer like Freema Agyeman playing a minor character on the show before coming back to play a main character like Martha is a trend that Doctor Who does all the time. "Ladies and gentleman of the jury, the Judoon leader witnessed an assault on a fellow officer, as corroborated by several eye witnesses on the scene and the hospital's security footage. As the incident took place on Earth's moon, which is not part of any nation on the planet as per the Outer Space Treaty, and thus eligible for authorized jurisdiction for Judoon investigation, the Judoon leader was operating within their legal boundaries as outlined in the policy of the Shadow Proclamation when they executed the assailant, having of course read the witness of a crime, the charge, the plea, and the sentence beforehand. In effect, my client has upheld the most fundamental virtue of interstellar law enforcement: Justice. Is. Swift."

    and
Neil Burnside in the spy drama "The Sandbaggers" (1979-1980)
Classic Doctor Who fans were treated to the occasional return of characters, monsters and villains as well, as you have already seen in Series 2.
The series composer Murray Gold, wrote themes for all the companions. The soundtrack is available on CD (or streaming on CZcams). There is also a CZcams channel named "Doctor Who Fan Orchestra" to definitely check out on CZcams. Fans contributed their skills with musical instruments or vocals individually. The channel team assembled each part into presentations of Doctor Who New Series music.

11:13 Emmeline Pankhurst (15 July 1858 - 14 June 1928) was a British political activist who organised the British suffragette movement and helped women to win in 1918 the right to vote in Great Britain and Ireland. In 1999, Time named her as one of the 100 Most Important People of the 20th Century, stating that "she shaped an idea of objects for our time" and "shook society into a new pattern from which there could be no going back". She was widely criticised for her militant tactics, and historians disagree about their effectiveness, but her work is recognised as a crucial element in achieving women's suffrage in the United Kingdom.

So a few things Martha's mother was one of the cat nurses in series 2, Mr stoker is a homage to bram stoker the person who invented Dracula and he gets his blood sucked out and lastly Freema played a character in the finale who gets controlled by the cybermen and even make reference in the episode

Not sure if you noticed she bears a striking resemblance to the female scientist that got taken over by the Cybermen in the season finale (season 2? 3? I forget). Same actress. They cover it by mentioning her relative dying.

@@andybodle7560 Almost: I grew up with the Western in the 70s ("There's one thing we gotta get, Hayes!" "What's that?" "Outta this business!"), and it was more light-hearted adventure than out-and-out comedy IMO. Of course I instantly got the pun in the title of the 90s comedy sketch-show, and knew the 2 comedians from _Not_ _the_ _Nine_ _O'Clock_ _News_ in the 80s. Also, it's the two most common surnames in the UK.

Yeah whenever the Doctor "plays human" he'll go by the very common name "John Smith" because... well it's very common. :)
But yes this was a good episode, it was a bit like a murder mystery in that you met the characters and stuff was happening but it wasn't until the end that it began to come together as a coherent story.

Ah the rhino space police, the little straw, rain is going up. I think Martha being a more smart character is an interesting contrast from the typical adventurous but still asks the right questions that Rose did. Or the not as aware but helpful & funny Donna. So many moments this episode or season.
I don't always notice the finer details of Stoker or other names or references but writers do like to put them in.
It is very much a bop even if not intended. XD
Leading with time lord/had to use the TARDIS then just pull the tie out, yet later episodes does a break down of things then being smug about it. So many things, so many good episodes this season. Two good 3 episodes in a row too.
