Police Interceptor Reacts to Hot Fuzz

- After last weeks reaction to Simpson's, the comments wanted one thing... Hot Fuzz. In this video, I react to some of the best scenes from Edgar Wright's cult classic giving my thoughts as an ex-Police Officer. How realistic is it? I break down some of the clips and give my thoughts, what would I have done differently to Sgt Nicholas Angel? What a film this is. What else would you like to see me react to? Let me know in the comments!

@@alexfergusson3295 As far as College courses - public services/protective services is a great course than can get you ready for joining the emergency or armed services, take it from me as I am studying it as we speak. Police cadets is another tip. In terms of mental health better off asking at your local Police station. 👍 Good luck.
@@alexfergusson3295
Alex, many forces are now very accepting when it comes to neurodiverse individuals.
Following an aneurysm I was left with epilepsy and several other conditions. When I first joined that would have more than likely seen me medically pensioned out, but not these days. There is a lot of support and encouragement for those who have conditions such as us. You're never alone.
As @Idrees suggested, the public services course would be a great starting point.
All the very best for the future, matey 👍
Ben, can you do a video reacting to an episode of 'The Bill'
Can we give a minutes silence to the poor Captions bot that clearly can't deal with a Yorkshire accent and died shortly after this video.
Iiii spoooose
I suppose
Like the closed captions you can turn on? They honestly arent that great either way. I mean there is a WIDEEEEEE span of accents in the US from very formal to absolutely unintelligble.

Imagine running for 10-15 minutes into the hills and a fucking cop just terminator runs at you out of nowhere
@Hesh Hesherson Well, ya know what they say: Exception proves the rule
Fun fact about Hot Fuzz: the shop was a genuine shop, and the glass display was a real one. Very expensive to replace so to avoid damaging it and having to replace it they made the powder sparks make it look like bullet proof glass. They still ended up cracking one of the panels when they ran the trolleys into it, so ho hum.
"By the first 500 yards, your fucked" not a truer word spoken 😂😂 Kit is way to heavy to be sprinting after people who wear tracksuits 😂
It's easier if you're a cop in America. You chase them for 5 feet and then start shooting.
Well to be fair its very likely the offender wouldnt be able to sprint that kind of distance either. Unless they were like a marathon runner or soldier or something lol
@Hesh Hesherson yeah Id say absolutely not, not being morbidly obese is not the same as being in shape. Not all skinny people do cardio lol. Id best if you asked him about it hed probably tell you most criminals get winded as often or more than the cops. I used to be in the army and Id meet people there who were absolutely not morbidly obese and absolutely could not sprint full tilt for 1 mile straight. Which meant they hadnt been doing theyre cardio. Besides most people engage in the same bad dieting habits as many cops, most more so.
I've run after a couple of purse-snatchers and that 500yd line is spot on. I lost my first one (hey, I was like 14 and the streets were thick with ice), but I caught my second one (in my prime) and let me tell you, after about three blocks it was *comedic*, he was wheezing, I was wheezing, we were both barely moving, occasionally stopping with our hands on our knees, leaning on lampposts, wheezing like geriatric steam engines. It was a truly pitiful sight towards the end.
In the case of Nicholas Angel (Simon Pegg's character), he was an overachiever who made his colleagues look bad (including his superiors). A stark contrast to the deadbeat title character he played in Shaun of the Dead.
The reason the deli counter glass in the supermarket does not break despite all the gunfire is because those things are actually very expensive and they did not have the budget to replace one. They got permission to shoot in a real supermarket but had to pay for any damages they caused.
"Bradfords a right Shithole!" Never a truer word spoken on the internet. 🙂
I guess the premise of Hot Fuzz revolves around an alternative interpretation of "good cop, bad cop". Never really thought about it from that angle before.
It's one of those movies I've seen several times and will definitely watch again.
Which reminds me; I actually do need to water my Peace Lily!
You mean you have never really thought about it from that angel?
"mornin' angle"
I've got PTSD from being a police officer Ben, I'm a student learning disability nurse now, I work in MH a lot as well. Thanks for being so open and honest. - Just a comment to make you know you aren't alone ❤
You dont have PTSD, you dont know what its really like, theres almost nothing you can experience domestically to know what it feels like, unless you served in the MET homicide squad perhaps and even then you haven't seen the real horror of war. Until you see some rough rough shit, Its like those people have "OCD" because they like things tidy and organised. Its unfair to those who suffer for some horrific emotions with serious mental health conditions.

Another great vid Ben, thanks for letting the general public see the other side of police work and the effects on the mental health of officers. I hope that in time your depression and PTSD lessens to a degree so you can live a happier life. I have PTSD and Borderline Personality Dusorder and with counselling etc it's helped change my life. You take care buddy.
Wow, huge kudos for getting therapy for BPD, that is really rare. Which is a huge shame because as I understand therapy is effective.
@@ReallyGoodName3000 thanks for your reply,I appreciate your kind words. It took Mr nearly 30 years to get a diagnosis and receive treatment as I was told by about 40 different doctors I had depression or simply told to get over it. For many years antidepressants did help to a degree but once I saw a great psychologist,he helped me understand why my mind was acting the way it was and how to help undo what was wrong.
I had the pleasure of meeting North Yorkshire's Chief Inspector many years ago, a very pleasant fellow, though not being one of his subordinates it may well have been the "smiling public face" I saw. ANYHOW, another lovely vid with you AVIN A LARF good stuff.
How have you not seen hot fuzz in the 14 years since it was released? now *that's* a crime.
I have seen it before, just not for a while! 🤣
I would love to have my car commandeered, not that I would be of any use.
In the words of Chief Wiggum (Simpsons) "I'd rather let a thousand guilty men go free, rather than chase them".
Bald guy in the supermarket , was the hound on Game of Thrones . The solicitor in the traffic stop was frank gallagher in Shamless :D
I have a mate who was an inspector until very recently. He's always said there are a lot of insider police jokes in that film. Sandford?
It is true that many of the jokes in the movie were taken from the stories the filmmakers heard about real events and stories concerning police, such as Nick Angel not being able to understand the local farmer but his colleagues understanding it fine.
Sanford is a inside joke from interviews
Ben 'Bradford is a right s**t hole!' I can't see you working for the tourist industry in Yorkshire anytime soon! 😂
I live in york . I'm sure it is the york tourism slogan
Yea but he is true.
An officer without a gun? That must give so many Americans a heart attack! 😂
We really don't. We call them mall security.
It's just fun to compare US vs UK police.
Its actually quite funny that this is a rather new development in the grand scheme of things. Strict gun laws in the Uk were implemented somewhere late 80s / early 90s.
Interestingly enough the gun crimes went down for a few years before growing higher than before those laws.
@@PresidentScrooge though it's still not anywhere near America per capita.
My point was though that not all UK officer's are armed. I live in Denmark, a relative safe country with equal or more strict gun laws, but still all police officers are armed, but in Norway they aren't, at least not until a few days ago.
I lived in the UK (Mildenhall, Suffolk) as a kid in the 70s and 80s. In the US now. When I tell people that police in the UK don't carry guns, oftentimes they don't believe me.
The bomb scene is one of the funniest things I've ever seen with the barely-understandable accent guy translating for the completely incomprehensible guy
The actor who played the farmer with a very broad Gloucestershire accent also played Argus Filch in the Harry Potter films.
I've seen Hot Fuzz enough times I can translate the farmer without the officer.😄 I like Shaun of the Dead more, but I love the entire Blood and Ice Cream trilogy to bits.
Supermarkets are good for action scenes because they have lots of explodable gubbins to fill the screen. You can crash through a shelf unit and send boxes flying everywhere, or shoot down a drinks aisle and thr screen is erupting with glass and colourful fluid in blast waves.
Love hot fuzz even down to the accuracy of the cake fines! I’ve seen it so many times that I can watch it on silent and know every line.
This is definitely your best video Ben! Being a resident of Keighley it’s always interesting to listen to your stories😂
Superb video Ben, I chuckle every time you mention Keighley, Shipley Bradford because living here I know you're spot on with your observations 😂😂
Lol I just posted the below to another commenter who lives in Bradford. I'm sure there are some decent places to live in/around the area, but unfortunately I only know the "less desirable" neighbourhoods 😬
"Jesus wept, my very first shift in Bradford was during a cross-border Op Impact "day of action".
Following a brief fail to stop round Manningham (if I remember correctly they attempted to starburst just behind a Tesco?) I soon realised how rough Brat'fud is...
We'd not been searching the car/occupants more than five minutes before we got completely surrounded by locals who made our job VERY difficult. Not many mobile phone cameras in them days, so we had Sony Handycams and digital cameras shoved in our faces.
We had to call in backup from District who basically provided us a cordon to allow us to finish searching/locking up etc. A blacked-out X5 even rolled up containing one of the perp's solicitors?! That's how fast it got round what was going on.
Must admit, I don't envy you living there, mate!!"

Apologies matey, I probably didn't explain it very well as I was online at silly-o-clock after being late off from work and unable to sleep.
I wasn't based in Bradford, I was actually a member of a different force in the Yorkshire & Humber region.
Every now and again all four forces would pool a number of their specialist resources such as Traffic, Road Crime Unit, Armed Response, Dog Section and Proactive Team etc and hit a town, city, district or county to go after high-risk offenders, people wanted on warrant, disrupt organised crime groups, proactively search for dealers, burglars and car thieves and provide a high visibility presence in the community. They're called "Impact Days".
I had plenty of wool on my back in my home force, but this was my very first experience of operating in Bradford. It could not have been more different than were I was based at the time, and that was a rough town lol
Every other vehicle seemed to have no insurance, loads of people gave false details or used a family member's name to try and deceive us, loads of young lads driving hig-end motors otherwise in accordance with a licence or actually disqualified, and so many (not all I must admit) had zero respect for the police or the law in general.
Grimsby in North East Lincolnshire is very similar.
I'm American with - I feel - a fairly decent ear for accents. But, damn. This fella made me rewind a few times. That's some thick-ass Northerner speech...
Love it!
Trust me it's not that thick, I worked with the American marines and the poor loves looked at me like I was an alien!
I’m from a bit farther up North and I have a couple of Southern friends who still from time to time struggle with my accent.
The best part is that even the close caption was confused by quite a few things that were said lol
If you think that's bad, the Geordie accent is even worse. I once spoke to an English guy who used to be in the military. He said a Geordie was transferred to his unit and it took them 3 months before they could figure out what he was saying.😅
“I’d probably just take a beating from him and play dead”. Just laughing too hard over that.
Thanks Ben, for again a hilarious video, i want more of this.
At least if they’re bringing live handgrenades into the station they’re not bringing them into A&E in their rectum.
One of the best movies of the 21st century! So glad you have done this 😂😂
Keighley! My uni housemate (Chris Dunn, artist?) is from there. He showed us around the area, it was…..lovely. Yep.
Anyway, great video! You’re a natural in this format!
I'm a simple man... I see Ben's uploads and I like.
Great reactions! Wish it was longer but really enjoyable! 👍😎
I remember watching Ben on TV ages ago glad I found the channel
500 yards? After a 100 yards I’d would run out of gas. I remember my last foot chase, I turned a corner and the suspect looked back at me, he had gained about 50 yards on me. He sped up and I was exhausted. The power of the radio led to his arrest.
Love hearing about your work is super interesting. Do you have experiences with the prison service if so good or bad
As someone from Wakefield, this is the first time I’ve heard someone talk about and from round here who’s class and genuine
The ding made me laugh xD - Great video - its you that made me want to be a police constable and as of a few months ago I applied :)
Great stuff mate enjoy your channel 👍🏻 should do more on stuff like this for sure . Good luck with the channel
Brilliant! I loved this! So honest about the mundane and the absurd aspects of police work. So refreshing! :)
6:31 - Being only 26, I still very barely remember the police cars in the West Country being the classic "jam sandwich" :)

You have found a niche. Good Luck :)
Only just found this, but i'd love to see your thoughts on Terry Pratchett's Guards series of books from his Discworld novels, and his viewpoints on policing that spring up from them!
A question if there are any more answering question videos (I love them). What is the most common reason or reasons for people not making it through the police selection process or training?
It can’t be for being to fat can it.
Weird seeing one of these videos and seeing a fellow Yorkshireman describing places I've lived in 😅 certainly can say that kinda crap happens all the time up there
This guy is awesome!! Doesn't take himself too seriously. He should be in the next movie.
0:35 Well ... if the Chief Inspector "can make people disappear" ... he can also "make test results appear".

Oh, interesting, so Ben was an officer who appeared on a show in the UK called Interceptors? This is the first video I've seen of his, so I'm new to it all. The video was a lot of fun and Ben is very likable.
Cheers, from the Northern US.

Another great vid. Our Ben is a great insight to the person behind the uniform. They are not all bad. I'd still keep my wits about me though, but I would always be respectful at the same time. I've seen coppers in real life, that wouldn't come close to the Hot Fuzz guys. I've got a pretty good 'winging it' radar. Respect is earned, not given 👍
Thoroughly enjoyable reaction, Ben. Thank you.
“I’ve never fired my gun up in the air. 1- cause I don’t have a gun & 2- I’ve never had a reason too “ and most importantly for anyone watching… “WHAT GOES UP MUST COME DOWN”. You’ve a real risk of showering a load of bullets up in the air only to get three lodged in your brain once gravity takes over.
There is no way this is the first time he has saw it
Another brilliant episode Ben, will have to dig out Hot Fuzz to watch again.
7:57 Had me rolling!
Literally just found your channel, and I'm only a few minutes into this video and you've already got my subscription.
I don't know if you take requests for things to react to, but I'd love to see your reaction to The Usual Suspects.
Either way though, you've got yourself a subscriber, cheers mate!
Edit: also, in terms of it being absolute bullocks if a firearms officer fired his/her gun up in the air, just felt like I should weigh in from across the pond: it's absolute bullocks if ANYONE fires a gun into the air. Not sure if I've got all my British/Scottish slang correct there, but I do know that despite the sheer ludicrousness of firing a gun randomly into the air, it's unfortunately still common enough that it requires people to be warned about it over here. I think at least some of it is people not realizing that a 21 gun salute consists of 21 shots of blanks, no actual bullets being fired. So I think people see that, get a false sense of how harmful could it be because it's done all the time at military funerals and such, without realizing the rounds used have no bullets. That's my theory at least. That or just that people think it just sorta dissolves in the atmosphere like people seem all too often think when releasing balloons into the air (those also have to land somewhere, but because it's far away and out of sight, people don't think it's an issue). It's apparently more common around the 4th of July as well. No joke though, the whole "firing randomly into the air" thing I'm pretty sure was part of a little gun safety quiz thing I had to take before buying my pistol in California. Which, I realize is probably a somewhat strange sentence to those from other countries
2:39 funnily enough, i live very close to Wakefield so it’s nice that it’s getting some recognition, even when it’s coming from someone in Yorkshire.

I had a cop come in to arrest a perp who was using a stolen credit card. The guy ran and the chunky cop gave up in less than 100 yards, came back panting hard to get his cruiser.. They got the guy and arrested him, then released him BEFORE they checked his record! He had a rap sheet that was bout 3 feet long including voilence and guns! Toronto.

Anyway i am being chased down this alley way in middle of town and at the end of the alley someone was walking past and had noticed so he stood there waiting to try and catch me. As i got close i brought my bag up as if i was going to swing at the guy and when he flinched out of the way i just ran straight past the guy (Without hitting him).

I always wondered If police could commandere a car belonging to a member of the general public. In the event you do have to do this. What are the regulations around it? Can you drive it like an emergency vehicle? What happens in the event of damage? Does the owner just have to stand there like a wally and wait for you to bring their motor back? 🤣🤣🤣🤣great video as always Ben 👌
Any damage would be for the police to cover so guess you would need permission from senior officer and owner.
