While it had flaws, I absolutely love this film and the visuals were absolutely stunning. My favorite scene being at the end with Julia looking into the sky where the Tet is being destroyed. Her stance, hair, and the backdrop of the explosion are so familiar. I swear it looks like the cover of a fantasy/scifi book I saw when I was younger, but I can't place it.
There's a review from a critic on RT that says the editing is bad. What movie were they watching?
Star Wars Return of the Jedi?
Is a classic conclusive ending that lost its emotional impact after being used multiple times since it was featured early on in apocalyptic films.

When Jack finds the first downed drone, it's in the remains of an NFL stadium. The last Superbowl was played there before the war and Jack seems to remember the winning score. That's a pretty significant item in the story.
The one thing that this recap doesn't capture is the amazing soundtrack. Such an amazing movie. Flawed, but it's still one of my favorites of all time.
It also doesn't capture the memorable endings for Jack 49 and Jack 52. Jack 49 quotes his book, saying "How can man die better: than facing fearful odds, for the ashes of his fathers, in the temples of his Gods." And Jack 52 is shown with Julia as they start a new life.
This is actually a very deep movie. Lots of life lessons. Like sometimes the very things you have been taught to fight and be afraid of is actually the very thing trying to save you.

Unlike most unknown movies, this one is actually good. It's really interesting in the way it's acted and executed, and the drones are one of the most terrifying adversaries. Quite a movie and quite a recap. Thanks.
I never understood why the writer chose Titan as the humans new home.
Yes, it has an atmosphere. But it's - 300° there; it rains liquid natural gas; it's so cold, volcanos erupt molten ice lava.
But, now that I think about it, the: "Humanity evacuating to Mars" trope has been done to death.
I dont know much about Titan, but I believe it has the resources to sustain humanity (albeit in awful conditions), at least energy wise.
The entire “earth is a spinning ball” and “outer space” tropes have been greatly exploited to the point that what once were minor concepts found in sunday comicstrips, are now believed by the masses to be undeniable truths while simultaneously deny what they see with their own eyes.

I'm guessing the machines didn't anticipate that the clones would regain their memories. They just copied whatever was on the ship and pasted it many times over.
I read a comment or theory somewhere that the Tet did anticipate the clones regaining their memories, just not as quickly as actually occurred. That's why the Tet is bringing Jack and Vika's tour of duty to an end. It automatically does that with all the Jack and Vika clones after a certain period of time because it knows they will eventually start regaining their memories. Of course, they will not be going to Titan; they will be killed and replaced with a new Jack and Vika for another 3 or 5 year cycle. Also, the reason the Tet would ask "Are you still an effective team?" could be related to it knowing that clones regaining their memory could result in problems.
Looks like the machines anticipated it… hence the mandatory memory wipe at the beginning every 5 years.
I believe Saturn's moons would be too cold for humans to live on. Scientist would have a better chance at finding a way to put water on Mars and increasing the oxygen levels on that planet, since it's the second planet most earth-like. Venus would be the first planet most earth-like but the temperature rings are too large for human life.
Interesting thankyou :)
it also happens to be most liquid (dont wanna say water and be incorrect) so would be hard to habitat
I think its liquid methane but could be wrong
Titan is actually one of the most likely other places in our solar system that could support life. The problem is the lack of water as titan mostly has stuff like ethane and methane. It would be more likely to support human life on one of Jupiter's moons. It has 3 moons that contain water after all. As for it being too cold, we have ways around that. Sure we wouldn't be able to walk around outside without HEAVY insulation and heating systems, but inside artificial habitats that doesn't have to be a problem. As long as there's water (even in ice form) and a way to get nutrients for plant life, we could theoretically build colonies there.
Venus would be a nice place if you don't mind breathing in Sulfuric acid and other toxic chemicals at a temperature of 847 degrees fahrenheit.
Other than that, it's a nice place to vacation with the family.
funny how lighting strikes planes everyday and there fine but strikes a multi million dollar futuristic craft and disrupts it
This is actually a pretty underrated movie I recommend checking it out.

9:37 "Sykes walks u-"
That's Jamie fookin Lannister
I thought he looked familiar! And worth me going back to see him again!!
The question if they are still an effective team is brilliant, because Ted knows the older the clones get, more memory will come back and eventually Jack will remember his wife and behave different towards Victoria and so she will report to Ted they are no more an effective Team and Ted knows it’s time for them to go to Titan/ neutralize the clones.
Tet, not Ted, but good point.
Kudos to creativity. ❣️Titan.
I also love the idea of survival next to the remote lake (with side trips to the beach.) My heart wants to believe that Jack & Julia wake-up together, almost every morning, fully grounded on the beautifully recovered Earth. And that Victoria & Julia and the two Jacks are all alter-egos of two humans truly in love with each other who finally find their absolute purpose: to save the human race from their own narcissistic egos that destroyed the Earth in the first place. True love always conquers every obstacle. Love is still the answer! 🕊❣️🌟🌙🎶💦🐝

This was a lot more interesting than I personally thought it would be
I've seen this movie at three yrs old and still watch it today
I hold a contrarian view to the generally positive views I see on display here. This was, I'd agree, an absolutely beautiful film. The home in the sky and vehicle designs were stunning. What I dislike about "Oblivion" is the initial situation - A Humanity victorious and spread to off world colonies. A fairly optimistic outcome - though Earth is emptied and hurt. By the conclusion, however, Humanity lies smashed as just another vision of sci-fi survivors in the rubble. A race which has lost near everything. A far grimmer outcome. Furthermore, the same Alien intelligence which understood Humanity well enough to create those stunning sky residences is simultaneously so clueless as to fall for a 'Trojan Horse" deception? Doubtful.
It also spent time and energy building an army to exterminate the humans when it could have gotten all it needed from the moon's of jupiter and ignored the humans. It also doesn't appear to have collected any flora and fauna dna samples except for the 2 initial human ones, which is another reason not to bother with earth. They really should have done more to justify the plot.
Even if you want to go with the dubious plot point of the TET falling for the Trojan horse, I have a hard time believing it also had an Achilles heel a la the Death Star. Something that size presumably would have redundancies, and while it would certainly do some damage, completely obliterating it seems inconsistent with the fact that mankind was unable to accomplish a similar tactic during the initial invasion when they were busy nuking the Earth.
Furthermore, my biggest complaint is that the movie was slow-moving and dull. Quite a contrast to similar Cruise Sci-Fi pics like Minority Report or Edge of Tomorrow. Maybe some people found Vika's character repeating, "Copy this, copy that" compelling, but not me. Don't misunderstand me. I am not arguing that a Sci-Fi should be an action flick set in space or the future, but it needs some intellectual meat to sink your teeth into if there isn't a lot of action or drama. Movies like Arrival are a great example. Fans of this one like to make a big deal about the plot twist, but you knew something was up from the very beginning with the dream sequences. So by the time Morgan Freeman's character spills the beans, it sounds cliche. Two hours and the screen writers and director were unable to deliever something a little more complex? Sigh, Instead all we got were hackneyed tropes.
@@billclinton6040 A problem with the movie is the Humans are wearing weird gears and masks to protect themself from the drones.
OK
Then, even in presence of Drones they forgot to use them every time.
It becomes apparent this 'camouflage' is here only to hide the fact they are not aliens ... but once the trick is revealed, the writer throw their own story out the windows.
If you haven't watched this one you’re definitely missing out on a great and under appreciated film

I actually liked this movie when hubby and I saw it in the theater so I bought the digital copy!
I wonder if Jack 52 had his own hidden getaway somewhere?
I'm guessing the floating house (49), crashed when the Tet was destroyed (like the drowns), but the other house was supported so the survivors could possibly (if flyer still works?) cannibalize it for the technology?
What about the other Jacks and Victoria's (in other "radiation" zones)? ;-)
