You knew they were fishy when the army drafted the children as "last hope of humanity" but without giving a reason why. Glad the characters were not totally dumb and asked the question why aliens that were able to create EMPs and earthquakes would be afraid of an army of children.
Not to mention they killed all the adults, all parents of the kids they drafted.

I like how in the beginning when she's arguing with the injured man the first shot actually does have him hold a gun (you can see the striker and general shape of the handle), because it's from her perspective and it's showing her paranoia and fear literally on screen, but then it reveals the crucifix, showing the reality of the situation. Really nice subtle touch from an otherwise average movie

edit: maybe someone is curious about this, but in part 2 of the books, it's interpretable that the kids taken by the "army" are now "cannon fodder", kinda reminds me of how in WW2 the kids from Germany were also cannon fodder, since children and women were allowed to go to war for Germany...
These people went through a literal APOCALYPSE but somehow EVERYONE had perfectly quaffed hair, clean faces, and not a single torn item of clothing!

This channel is a godsent. I know few movies which are high on concept and low on execution and I do not wish to spend 2 to 3 hours on them. These past few weeks this channel has helped me catch up on many of those movies.

I remember reading a short story when I was a kid that was like this….it’s about this kid who you think is an alien in hiding using a cloaking device. In reality, at the end of the story you find out that the “Alien” is actually one of the few last humans, that’s actually hiding from the invading aliens who have completely taken over the world. Anyone remember what the name of this story was? Been looking for it for literally decades 😢

IMVHO: I think a standard EMP from a nuclear weapon would down a modern commercial jet- since they need computers to activate the electric servos that operate the flight controls; even the jet engines are probably controlled extensively by computers. Modern planes use a technology called Fly-by-Wire: en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Fly-by-wire?wprov=sfla1 Fly-by-Wire planes use electric signals to control "everything" - no hydraulics like older jets. However, military gear is often nuclear harden, e.g., tanks, planes, ships, etc- just for the reason to protect against a nuclear EMP strike ( one of the excuses for high dollar military gear is it's EMP protected).

As soon as i saw some familiar parts i soon realised I watched this movie when i was a kid. I didnt watched Most of the parts of the movie tho and didnt understand the story so its nice to see it again and this time explain the whole story.
It was whilst screaming 'no, you're doing it all wrong!' that I began to suspect that society had trained me for the post apocalypse far more thoroughly than it had for the 9 to 5 rat race. Not better, just more thoroughly.
