Rick Yancey touched on this in the novel. No one really knew what to do, so some just stuck to their routine. The aliens didn’t communicate with the people at all. They just hung out up there, silent. And some people were hopeful that they were friendly. Governments were trying to figure out what to do, if they should send someone up there, if they should send more messages. But before a decision was made, the first wave hit and destroyed their technology so it’s not like there was anything to do.

according to the book the virus is a modified version of ebola called the red death because the infected bleed to death or just bleed themself to death.

That is because people dont perform enough research about the long term effects of them plus this is new tech. Why do you think there are so many cancer cases or cases of babies born with diseases and disabilities these days?
