Creative Assembly Surrenders To Total War Review Bombing!

- Is total war saved? not yet! Never forget this is Creative Assembly and they have used this very strategy again and again and again! Until they show real change in the direction of total war with perhaps total war medieval 3 or future DLC then we should consider total war pharaoh to be their real intent

"review bombing" feels a bit disingenuous. Its was an active and united effort by fans, backed by general consensus and lack of sales. This was no attack, but instead thousands of people voicing their opinions constantly over every official channel, most importantly with their influence and wallet.
It is. But its also a good term for the phenomena when it happens naturally. It ain't nice it's tossing mollies and lighting things up.
Review-kreig the
@@reggie6230 That needs to happen IRL if we want to see the system change. Otherwise it will be attack then walk back. Five steps forward screwing us over, then one step back in "apology" is still four steps forward.
@@franciscoruiRezensionskrieg? It also sounds somewhat like "resentment"...
I'm sure the SJWs on twitter use the same argument.
"The right to discuss is a privilege-it is not an entitlement you earn by playing the game" -Creative Assembly.
*THIS* is who that company is. *NEVER FORGET IT.*
Dont worry everyone will forget in a month or so. They ALWAYS do
@@arcticfox5118 Sad but true... I myself stopped at Rome 2
@@arcticfox5118 They already started forgetting. I got ratioed for voicing my doubts about genuinity of this apology yesterday. Memory of the people really be short.
I'd rather remember them as the company that managed to fuck up a Total War Warhammer franchise by being as cheap and stingy as possible.
Instead of making sure this game stand as the pinacle of what they could do, by making sure every new "sequels" and new races is has unique as possible, bringing up as many cool feature like navy battle, underworld map, or a well integrated chaos realm to the main IE map where deamons reside, they just cheaped out on every single possible occasion as possible.
I will remember CA as a lazy, greedy and cheap company with awful game designers.
@lazarualong697 Because it comes from Collum who is a relatively stand up guy, the thing is that he gambles all on ToD and if he screws that one up the company is gonna get gutted. Also, good will it's never going to stick until they fire Rob Bartholomew, which is never gonna happen.
If it didn't work, they wouldn't have spent so much energy for so long.
They changed Netflix because of it.
They changed rotten tomatoes because of it.
They changed metacritic and youtube because of it.
It ALWAYS worked.
It’s not a review bomb, it’s just surveying customer experience. Survey says: they suck!
This is the time to _not_ let up. This is when most people and fanbases declare victory and stop trying. It's important to keep going until they've proven they're dedicated to making amends, and aren't just paying lip service (the latter of which is obviously what they're doing right now).
Give them budlite.
Yeah but then let’s look back at the last couple years. CA drags fists for 11 months and does something nice for a month to rinse and repeat the cycle again.
@@guyincognito1406All the more reason to adhere to the OP's advice. So they don't continue the cycle.
well, keep in mind here this isn't a 'review bomb' These were legitimate Complaints about a crappy product that stepped over the line and this was after they'd already hammered us with trash for quite some time. A review Bomb is just a bunch of people attacking something they don't like regardless of how good it is. We were customers who got screwed over and over until we could take any more and finally let them have it.
Nah a review bomb is when something is being bombed by fake reviews from bot accounts over a minuscule amount of time. Neither of these are review bombings they are just reviews one is motivated by the state of the thing the other by external factors.
Oh shut up. Because that fits most of you so called TW "fans".
I bet you 're one of those morons who didn't even try TW Pharaoh and yet think you have the right to call it crap.
Well guess what princess? You idiots don't have such a right.
I played 100 or so hours on the game and I found that it was pretty fun, but I just got kind of burnt out on the TW campaigns in general, but that's more of a me thing than the supposed lack of quality of the game itself.
It is review bombing if you don't like what the feedback says. =P
A review bombing is a term created by racists for not embracing leftoid demonology
Review bombing is when the person isn't even a consumer, but a purposeful saboteur. Which is more commonly done by their side than by ours.
don't let anyone tell you otherwise. it's also a tool for the customer to voice their opinion and let it be heard. it's only been demonized by other fools or PR of that company.
Depends on the company how well it works.
And is it really a review bomb if the reviews are accurate?
Well it sure looks like it bombed.
No its just an accurate group of reviews
The concept of "review bomb" doesn't exist, it was made up out of thin air by the media, because they didn't like the fact that customers are sharing their honest opinions. It is always morally acceptable to voice your opinion on a product, regardless of whether that opinion is positive or negative.
I'll keep saying this: corporations are not ethical entities, no matter what they claim. Since their only objective is to gain the maximum benefit for themselves for the minimum value offered, corporations should always be subjected to severe scrutiny and punished for their misdeeds without qualms. Forgiveness, if any, needs to be proven over a long period in order to ensure it is valid; this is a rehabilitation process, after all.
Keep companies down and in competition for our value, ensure no monopolies are possible. We can always have more and better companies.
I will only be convinced if the body stops moving.
FR, so many corposimps constantly thinking they're "just humans too"
I agree. Words are cheap. Actions mean results.
Until they actually act and show they mean it instead of saying words that mean nothing.
Keep the pressure. Keep the annoyance. And remember that if you don't... Then they think saying nothing is alk they need to say.
Exactly. Couldn't put it better.
Talk is cheap. Come Face Me
Remember that forgiveness requires repentance. "Sorry" is not enough, they have to produce tangible results.
"I'm sorry" =/= "I apologize"
An apology requires stating what you did wrong, how you intend to redress and presenting your apologies which may or may not be accepted.
Any other case you're dealing with a non-apology, sometimes a well formulated one.
Especially because these companies have shown time and time again that they are liars. Never trust liars, ever. They lost the customer trust, and it will be VERY hard for them to regain it.
Keep up the pressure, brothers. The fight is not over
They made appropriate noises, MONTHS later. The partial refund and price reduction for Total War Pharaoh is a good first step towards real change and not just fancy words. The problem is that this should have been done months ago when Pharaoh bombed. Did it really take them this long to figure out something was wrong or did they hope the storm would blow over?
quite clearly the latter
Companies ALWAYS hope that the storm will blow over. Look at Bud Light. Which is why it's so important to make sure that the storm doesn't blow over. Keep hammering them until they show genuine change, not just small token changes.
Karma is a beautiful thing.
The fact that Rob Bartholomew still works there tells me they didn't learn a damn thing
He can't be fired without a huge reestructuring since he is part of the Executive Team. He's been stirring sh*t of almost a decade now, and still has to get fired.
We MUST not let up til they actually change things. If we give them ANY slack now they'll bite us again in an instant. Break their will entirely, then and only then will they provide any usefulness again.
Anyone else remember the time we bombarded GW with emails over their "you will not be missed" thing?
Notice they haven't went full woke
@@mdb45424 not yet at least.
That's why I'm happy starfield now has "mixed". They don't listen to our concerns anymore so we'll make them listen with lost revenue.
Am I the only one imagine them petting a seal baby while they apologize?
Give them the Budlite treatment, BOYs & GIRLs! KEEP GOING, FOR THE EMPEROR! FORWARD!
Total War: WARHAMMER III - Shadows of Change £19.99
I'm afraid it hasn't quite bombed enough.
As long as dlc is released that isn't an entirely new race, there will never be one worth buying again
Or as i call it shadows of cringe.
Same deal as how news sites don't let you comment on their articles anymore. They don't want other readers/customers to compare and share opinions.
I will retract my review when I see them make good on their promises. A partial refund to the five people who bought Pharaoh and them patching their previous dlc is not enough. I want them to actually make some real improvements. I will lower my standards a bit, some optimization, permanent price cuts across the board for all products, some more flc will be enough, and another apology for good measure.
If they are truly sorry then the responsible ones MUST step down! At least the Bartholomew guy who has proven to being a complete clown. If anything I've heard that it is the "good" devs part of the leadership behind Shogun 2 are the ones leaving... which is just more scary than anything I've seen before. This "apology" so far just proves that they finally hired someone competent to manage their communications and not that they are truly changing anything
Rob Bartholomew is a certified d*ckhead, sadly he is in a high enough position never to be harmed because he is partof the executive team and a good friend of Edmonson. I think he was the guy that brought up the idea of having SEGA purchase the company because he used to work there.
He absolutely should have been sacked long ago.
Likely the latter, they often go "get the adults" once they emberass themselves in various steam reviews, I personally like when they reply with some corpo bs that I can pick apart, as I too, speak corpo bs
Sly Marbow dropping a legitimate fleet of bombs in the review section: "AAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAA"
CA: "Wahaaaaaaaaaaaaahhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhh HEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEELPPPPPP" *bottom line implodes*
Another big example: The Sonic movie... fans saw the original 'intended' design for Sonic, went, "The fuck is that?", and the director went, "Okay, we're going to delay release so we can fix him"
I'm so sick of the misuse of the term "review bombing". Review bombing only applies when something is given negative reviews for reasons unrelated to the quality of the product itself. Giving a game a negative review for being over priced is not review bombing.
Even this is a misuse I’m pretty sure. Review bombing is only a thing when bot accounts start getting involved if someone down reviews something cause the sole creator was a pedophile that’s still a valid review even though it is made for external reasons.
Agreed. This wasn't review bombing, this was reviewing the game based on its quality.
Review bombing is the nice way of saying Daddy's belt
Only if the belt is used as a garrote.
Forgiveness is a privilege, not a right.
My money is a privilege, not a right.
I think that the only reason it worked was because hyenas got killed off before it could bomb so they need to keep the existing audience happy for a little while longer.
Why are honest complaints called a review bomb.
Because when you don't comply you're seen as a terry.
It's the same reason why the media keeps talking about "gamergate". The media invented the concept of "review bombing" out of thin air, it doesn't actually exist.
I remember times of Arch Warhammer!
"Just because you bought our product, doesn't mean you can tell other people about our product."
Buying the game doesn't give me any rights, I already had those rights. If I maliciously lie about your product, and you can prove that I did so, and that my lies damaged you in some way, then the court will side with you if you sue me for defamation, libel, or slander. But if I just tell people, "This game looks like crap." that's my opinion, and is protected speech. Note: If I haven't bought the game, people shouldn't listen to me, because what do I know? But, if I did buy the game, and played it, and then told people it was crap, then my opinion holds more credence to them. The maker of the game doesn't get to tell me what my opinions are, whether I've bought the game or not.
Creative assemblies reply reminds me of the South Park BP "Sorry" commercial.
They don't like when you do it because it actually forces them to change.
The truth is a weapon, the truth hurts. The truth cuts deep.
Wider audaince is a myth a happy core will attract more look at dark souls the core of that is so strong i made Elden ring sell millions just to see why people made media around it 10 years later.
It's the lack of sales, not the review bombing.
Only seeing the South Park episode "were sorry"
Any relationship with a corporation these days is abusive. You need to approach any of them as a combatant.
Exactly, they are following the same pattern as usual.
Never believe what they say, judge by their actions.
They'd need to make a perfect Medieval III to win me back, lol.
"The review bomber will always get through." - some bloke on the internet.
"Ah, victory."- Viceroy Nute Gunray
It isn't a review bomb, it is voicing discontent with prices and developement strategy. The grievances and criticism are very valid.
"bombing works" Arch channeling his inner arthur harris lol
We have seen this time and time again. Sad to see my favourite series in shambles like this, but its dead and CA killed it. They are going to make just as much amends, as needed for the playersbase to open their wallets. They will never make a legendary, or even great total war game ever again. Only maybe if we stand behind the ppl who pulls all the strings with a whip 100% of the time through development. They have not changed 1 bit, and they will not ever again. Idk how they got influenced by EA and Activision like this.
It's good to see at least a handful of arch subs that understand the way the world works ngl
"Actions, not words"
Customer voicing serious complaints combined with some impressive levels of financial hurtting. Both self inflicted and by fans. Has finally made sega rampage through ca's offices.
Arch is being humble and leaving that 1% chance because that's just what a big man he is
Back when Rome 2 was release with lot of issues it was the last time I gave CA the chance to fix something after that i only got the first TW-WH and this was when WH2 was release and the original on a sale. I believe also in the power of your wallet.
Them spicy link bots are getting faster and more subtile
Dear Creative Ass-embly,
The right to discuss review bombing is a privilege-it is not an entitlement you earn by making the game-and in our public spaces, we will prioritize the ability of those who demonstrate that they can review bomb and disagree thoughtfully, constructively, and inclusively over those who aim to disrupt, derail, and diminish those contributions by crying about review bombing.
Best wishes,
A former paying customer.
In due time when Pharoh is on a steam sale for 10$ I might consider buying it. Might being the important word.
No, not even then.
Suffer not the Normie
Never spent a dime for their games, but always played them 😂
They where shocked a Norwegian was not a quizling XD
I still don't own any of the total war Warhammer games because they cost HUNDREDS of dollars, each! That is absolutely insane! Even deeply discounted, youre still spending well over more than $100, for the first one, thats several years old!
To be fair, up until now it's been fairly reasonable. We've had two full games, each dlc has been good/reasonably well priced and it has all built upon the previous release. It looks bad to someone coming in from the outside trying to catch up, but was fine as it happened. Game 3 is where it's come off the rails, half baked main campaign and seemingly no desire to address issues, the latest dlc being £20 wouldn't of actually been an issue if it contained £20 of content.
@@armi999 Ive been here since game 1.. It was unreasonably priced then, and its unreasonably priced now.
Game 1: $60 game, $77 in dlc
Game 2: $60 game, $111 in dlc
Game 3: $60 game, $260 in dlc
Sega is a scummy conpany, and EVERY sega title has the same overly monetized scheme
@@jmmywyf4lyf It looks like US customers get hosed for PC game prices. I paid £32.50 for Warhammer 1 a week or so before launch, so a little over $42. There also were few people claiming it was overpriced back then.
@@armi999 ibviously, it didnt have all the dlc on release day.. But it was always $59.99 +tax (6% sales tax for me)
Exactly! I’m probably in the target market, being a gamer and interested/learned about 40K… But I have never played the TW Warhammer games because the prices are absurd, and they don’t reduce over time as is normal for the market. When I see ludicrously prices DLCs, I never trust the developer involved; it’s normally a sign of making a base game that doesn’t give you a satisfying and complete experience without all the extras.
I’ll consider them when they are 70%- 50% off the regular price… they have been out for years.
I don’t even think they have the DCS excuse of being quite niche but also needing a lot of technical work to be as realistic and balanced to real life counterparts as possible.
The market should have been punishing CA for years… A decade by now. War Thunder has the same kind of control over their forums and its well known what kind of monetisation strategy they use.
This must continue. 10 years of damages must be amended
"a work in progress" - uh, ok, so why then are you charging full price for something you even admit isn't complete? "Here's a screwdriver handle for $8" - uh, but I can buy a whole screwdriver elsewhere for $8 - "well, yeah, but ours is a work in progress, when we create the actual blade for it you can get that for an additional $6, and trust us it'll be great!" - yeah, maybe I'll just go buy someone else's screwdriver then.
The game industry needs to remember it must remain competitive with its larger competitor the movie industry $60 video game would have to last at least 6 hours to be comparable to DVDs and 10 hours to be comparable to going to the movies
The movie industry isn't a larger competitor. The worldwide video game industry makes twice as much money as the worldwide movie industry. Video games have been more mainstream than movies for a long time now.
If you are the type of person moved by a corporate speak newsletter, I have beach front property in AZ to sell you. This is an acknowledgement of reality not some kind of consumer win. The only answer is a brand divorce & if you aren't willing to do that, stop crying about your entertainment not meeting YOUR expectations. My most favorite part of this letter is the acknowledgement that TOD was just as low effort as SOC was.
This is a perfect example of what happens when micro-tyrants take over a company.
There is no being mean or an asshole about it. They are asking for money, they are selling a product. It's either worth the money or its not. People have a right to complain about a product that's being sold to them.
Ahem. I believe what Arch means is "Peaceful Protest." By internet standards, that is.
I think review bombing was only 1 peice, it was the total lack of sales.
Prep the next volly.
No retreat, no surrender. Consumers have EVERY right to criticize a product and a company for any reason!
Dead or Alive fans boycotted DoA6 when it was censored and rushed. Now they're making a new one and will think twice on how they treat their fans. Every other fanbase can do the same if they stop being mindless consumers for one second and have some standards.
It's afraid!
I saw the articles coming out about this. At first, I thought it wasn't real, cuz WHY would they be apologizing and not just blame the customer base?
Well, it hardly matters cuz I am still not going to pay for their sloppy micro DLCs.
Bought every game from Shogun up to Rome 2, W123, they're dead to me until Medieval 3 and only then if it's bigger and better than R2
So much corpo speech there , I am not sure it works yet. I will belive when I see the next game
empty PR message for dmg control
ill trust them if i see them reduce the price of SOC
Get woke Go broke
What's the background music you use, Arch?
We do live in a day and age where what someone Tweets matters far more than actions. According to those who remain terminally online, that tweet is worth more than any sincerity.
I agree, we need action, or else we keep up the boycott. Just like with Budweiser and Target, no repentance, no forgiveness, no mercy.
Valve is the review and forum heroes of Steam. Their review system can't be altered. Reviews are only removable by the account that posted the review and Valve themselves. The system is designed right. You are required to run the game for an hour minimum while connected to Steam.
Its not review bombing if the review is accurate
lol a non apology nice, not like we have those in abundance.
Until I see Shadows of Change dlc down to like $7, I won't consider this a victory.
hmm. there's a reason I always go back to medieval II every now and again, and not any release after that.
Gamergate was almost ten years ago and we won that battle. Did people forget the war against games media is ever ongoing?
Creative Assembly was not "review bombed". Review bombing is when a small group of people organize a campaign of massed *dishonest* negative reviews for the purpose of artificially deflating the public perception of an IP.
What happened to Creative Assembly was not review bombing, it was simply that posting honest grievances against them started trending.
They spent how much on heynas yet they expect us to be ok with them doing what they did?
What CA should have done is OPEN the game to miniature manufacturers and studios for level packs, advanced AI, etc. The game would have benefited immensely. Perhaps it's not too late. The franchise is very powerful and CA alone are likely not capable to bring it to its full potential.
How arethey goingto fill in the financial hole that is hyenas? 😮
Total War Warhammer 3!... THREE!@ Where have I been? lol
Accurate
I agree with all here, who say that "review bombing" is the wrong phrase and probably shouldn't be used, as it implies a concerted effort by people who simply want to do harm.
Never forget who coined the phrase. The very industry being criticized, trying to deflect said criticism.
"Oh, it's not that our game is sheit, it's that those people hate us and want to harm our sales"
No, s**tbags, you game is s**t and we let everyone who even throws a cursory look and that sh**t _know_ it's sh**t!
Day 1 CA apologies, says they will do better and be more transparent
Day 2 Puts Creator programme on Hiatus
Real open and transparent, same old CA lets see how short of expectation those additions to Shadows of Change fall
Are they going to drop the Chaos Dwarf DLC price?
Has anyone been subscribed to Arch when he used to make videos in anticipation to TW: Warhammer I? Vaults of terra times??
This worked for War Thunder as well

Reminds me of Empire vs Napoleon total war 🙄
It is not review bombing, it is caring about quality.
don't give em an inch
The review bombing will continue until quality improves!
It does work. They know who are getting angry with them. Those who deny the review bombs are the ones in denial and are using smoke and mirrors for their superiors. They should know, they do the same stuff for the wrong reasons. So if it's not them, it's probably those who care that are voicing their dissatisfaction.
