I think this is caused by failure of the oil control rings. Hyundai may have set their oil change schedule to far out on engines which do not have piston oil squirters. We should consider shorting our oil change intervals to 4000 or 3000 miles on these cars. Using a low vapor pressure high stability oil like amsoil could be a solution also. After my engine started rattling I pulled the block apart on my elantra last summer and had it bored .020" over; the cylinders/ pistons/ bearings appeared to be properly sized from the factory and I was on a 5000 mile oil change interval (always on time) using Valvoline full synthetic but all of my oil control rings were clogged at 120k miles and I had piston slap (same wear patterns as in video) on every single cylinder. All the bearings looked fine, slight wear, and there was absolutely no sludge in my engine. These blocks would have lasted far longer had Hyundai taken cues from competitors like Toyota and properly designed a piston oiling system.

I thought my mechanic was honest to tell me this stuff but of course I have to come to a CZcams channel to learn all this thanks now I know to check all this because one of my pistons is not going up and down engine shakes like crazy and noise coming from engine I thought it was the new timing belt but he said it’s on the right timing without looking at the lines. So he says allegedly.
