Ford’s F1 comeback with Red Bull and how it will work

- Ford is coming BACK to F1 after striking a deal to partner Red Bull for the new era of engine rules.
After discussions with Porsche and Honda, Red Bull has announced a collaboration that will mean Red Bull Racing and AlphaTauri use Ford-branded engines from 2026 until at least 2030.
The Red Bull Ford partnership will be based out of the new Red Bull Powertrains facility that has been built up over the last two years but Ford has claimed it will have a big role in the hybrid part of the engines in particular.
After an absence of nearly two decades, Ford’s return is a big deal for F1 and the new rules. So why now for Ford, how will it work, and will this project add to the success or failure of Ford's sketchy F1 history?

Obviously having a name like Ford is fun and good for F1. But I still hate the idea of rebrands where companies slap their name on something with little involvement.
Hopefully Ford really does work on the hybrid system fully.
I mean funding third parties and slapping their logo on it has always been the ford way to win in F1 and to an extent the wrc and various other series. So this is nothing new
Little involvement? Jordan was rebranded to Redbull. They were using ford engines back then .

Honda didn’t drop the ball. Red Bull did. Honda already made intentions to stay in F1. RB/AT are already partners with Honda. It was a proven formula and partnership to be winners. But From what we know, RB chose another engine supplier over Honda.
@@cpcxgsr I disagree tho previous Honda CEO wanted to pull out of F1 for financial reasons as they wanted to pivot the business towards EVs, the New CEO wants to be in F1 and its too late, twice redbull have been left with serious uncertainty over an engine supplier making their own in house power units are is the only way to be truly independent.
@@JAREDPLY1 right, but it’s 2021/22 season, Honda made a promise to stay in F1 (Red Bull) until 2025. That is still years away. Even then, with Honda’s new management said they were committed in F1 beyond 2026. it wasn’t like Honda left RB hanging at the end of 2025, with no direction whether they will stay or go. RB already knows that Honda is committed to the sport… But it’s RB’s decision to go with Ford…
I foresee in 2026 with Honda not associated with RB, RB’s without any real engine supplier’s alliance, Red Bull will be a disaster… Reason Red Bull was able to win the last 2 championships was because of Honda’s engineering alliance. Honda was feeding RB all of the technological info. It wasn’t like RBs in-house engineers that was keeping their engine program alive.
In 2026, let’s see how RB will go without Honda’s guidance. Ford is just a sponsor. They don’t have the technological know how yet…
No they are going to go to better managed teams :)
Lmao they’re going to regret splitting from Honda after the first season of partnering with Ford.
Now it makes sense why Cadillac (GM) is now interested in F1. They heard rumblings of Ford's involvement, and if you want to be the top car manufacturer in the USA, you can't your rival company be in F1 and you not.

What you've to understand is is Ford has limited experience with manufacturing EV engines. At present, the Ford Mach E is only capable of producing 98.7 kw/h vs the Honda Clarity E which has been in production since 2016 produces 121 kilowatts. Andretti will be best served partnering with Honda. My only concern is whether should Honda go at it alone, or do they've technical & engineering aspects in place to avoid what happened with BAU Honda.

Lol. I think the team leadership of jaguar said it best. I can't remember the exact quotes, some from Lauda some from technical directors...
It's pure bureaucracy. If you need to alter a part you can't just machine it and get the car out, you have to send a request up the chain and by the time you got authorisation to do that it was out dated and you were fighting to get the upgrade approved.
Basically you can't run a race team with a ford structure. They've been historically bad at it. Definitely watch the interview with Lauda talking about it. If they are there providing money only it'll be more likely to be successful.

Ford is a really good company
I’m a bit iffy about this change in engine, Honda is working amazing atm and I hate that we will no longer work with them. Hopefully ford live up to what Honda has done for us so far!
This won't work as RBPT lacks the experience and ingenuity of a Cosworth ( who built engines for Ford before). This will backfire spectacularly.
@Crispin Peter-Mcgahan Plus a tone of ex-HPP engineers jumped ship to RBPT. Looks to me like this is the project for the future.
@Crispin Peter-Mcgahan The Honda employees will leave again.
@@TheSt1092 The former MGU-H Honda staff dont work for Honda under any jurastiction now- all are full time RBPT Staff .
its no different to the aston martin badging that first appeared on the force india pink panthers. its still a RB honda. Ford have a terrible history of not keeping up with advanced hybrid tech. They created some of the best small engines, their ECO range was fantastic output for tiny amounts of fuel. I dont think Ford has the brains to do F1 they are too middle management heavy. Id rather RB teamed with a new tech supplier like a Tesla Red Bull. That would be news...
Don't let them touch ANYTHING, if it ain't broken...
The RBF Will DOMINATE If they get this right and I pray they do!
Hopefully their high recall numbers don’t hurt them to much.
Given that Ford started with the Model T which was electric, its involvement in Formula Ford, it's old history in F1 and it's partnership with Nio...
If there f1 engines are anything like the vehicles they sell, this is doom for red Bull. Can’t wait to watch.
Red Bull has yet to sell a vehicle, so I don't know what you're on about
@@halofreak1990 LMAO what you didn't hear about the new Red Bull Raptors yet?!
That guy Kristen sure knows what he's doing.
🤣🤣🤣🤣
I would love see that
