I used a grenade on my truck, right on that fan .yup automatically separated everything for me. 7 seconds flat.
The c clamp method made this a 15 minute job for me, thank you so much! đđŒ
READ THIS COMMENT. I thought I was gonna have a hard time getting the clutch off but it was easy. I had some adjustable that were big enough for the nut. I used a pipe wrench on the water pump pulley since I'm replacing the water pump, slide the ooen end of the pipe wrench on the lip of the pulley from the back and tension the pipe wrench while you put pressure on the nut. Worked like a charm! Didn't really have to use much pressure really. Hope this helps somebody.
The C-clamp method worked for me. Didn't damage the belt. Thanks!
Thanks for posting this video. I was having a hard time getting the fan off and if I hadn't seen this, I would've thrown in the towel & paid someone way too much money to do it. Thanks.
+JLynnn 77 Thank you! We are happy we could help.
Thank you. I was stuck. the clamp technique worked. I will be shopping more with you.
Great quick vid! The tools designed to do something don't always work like you think!
I love you guys! Your videos have helped me out on so many occasions. I truly appreciate sharing experience that is obtained through years of hard work.
what size is the clips that clip the two half together? Or how would I measure the hole size? Thank You
I've never seen the clamp method, thank you for that!

So do you simply remove the upper shroud only to perform this fan clutch R&R? Thanks you guys. As always I will be getting my parts from 1A Auto.
The easiest method Iâve found is to use a đ, only tighten it enough to hold it in place so you can break it loose with a pipe wrench or a Crescent wrench. You can put little pieces of rubber on the clamp so you donât damage the pulley but itâs really not necessary as long as you donât tighten the clamp down crazy hard.
Thanks guys. Helped me get to my waterpump
Well God bless you! Used a coat hanger. Never did get it all the way through but enough for it to bite.
For those doing this... When reassembling this fan clutch onto the threaded Water Pump, add a small dab of anti-seize to the threads of the fan clutch, where it screws onto the WP... If you plan on keeping this vehicle for years, it will make the next WP job smoother... I have one that is going to take a complete replacement of WP, Pulley, Fan blades, and Clutch assembly due to rust seizure . I have made it glow with the torch (which also killed my fan clutch seals) and still cannot get it to break loose..

What size is that wrench? Is it 1 7/16 or 38?
Are these better than the electric dual fans ?
Is that a 12in crescent wrench?
My floor jack handle has done far more work as a breaker bar than it ever did as a floor lack handle.
Thank God for you guys
Do you have the gm 5.3 fan that doesnât howl constantly? Seems there isnât one that acts as factory.
We do not have your vehicle information to be able to confirm if we have the GM part that you are looking for. Try going to our website, www.1aauto.com and search by your year make and model. Thank you for your interest. +NorthTexasFarming
Ok on the install of the new fan clutch is it ok to put some semi permanent thread locker on the threads?
Anti seize is the way to go.
Wire trick worked for me
Thank you A1 auto

+Angel F Thanks for checking us out. 1aauto.com
Nothing mentioned about what size acceptable wrench
Couldnt u just put like a breaker bar on balancer bolt?
I just replaced the power window regulator. I used the cable from the old regulator. I backed out the alternator bolt, wrap that cable around the bolt, and tightened it back up. Voila!
If water is coming out from the pulley behind the fan because it is loose how do I fix that problem or tighten it
+Gavino Garcia You may want to see if the water pump is leaking from the weep hole on the bottom. If it is, the water pump may be going bad. Hope this helps you out. 1aauto.com
1A Auto Parts hi I have a 2004 Chevrolet suburban my truck started making this loud air sound everytime I accelerate I went and replaced the fan clutch and it's still making the noise when i got that truck and didnt have that noise can you give me an idea what could it be
Anthony Maldonado itâs the fan clutch. The only clutch that doesnât cause the annoying howl is the factory oem GM clutch.
@@anthonymaldonado1597 have you figured out the problem yet?
Tks

I've tried all of these and then some it broke every braid of steel i took it out put rocks in the back of the water pump the impeller grinded them I put bolt nuts and sockets in the back it moved then the impeller got mangled. Im too broke for this I've bought specialty tools for this still with no luck. Im putting well over 180 pounds torque but still nothing but mangled tools and a hurt ego

No way itâs this complicated.
it's a horrible thing to say but a fact
it's a terrible thing that we all have to beat the crap out of our selfs when faced to doing this job like me search the web high and low for the right answers to a complicated problem to find that the only right answer is the one that works and then may be not anybhoo thank you for some insight in to other possibilities for removal of the fan clutch
If you're removing the water pump just remove the hoe thing and try drilling a hole czcams.com/video/Uu87yxF07Vc/video.html
Wow I wouldn't watch another one of ur videos if my life depended on it.
Yeah thanks for not telling us what size bolt it is, just use a crescent wrench huh, strip the thing huh, no thanks...
+James Day Thanks for the tip! We'll pass this info along to our production team.
I put my French wrench in there, adjusted it snug, and measured with a tape. 1â "
