- In this video we tear into my Turbocharged 2003 Yukon XL "Uncle Rob" for a factory 2005+ electric fan conversion! The 99-04 trucks and same body style Tahoe Yukon Suburbans came with awful clunky clutch fans. Not only do these take up a ton of room but they consume A LOT of horsepower! Switching to these factory fans from a newer year model will enable your engine to deliver the power it already makes to the wheels instead of it being used to turn a fan with significant wind resistance. In my case this upgrade is important since uncle rob is turbo and we race it...also the turbo pipes would not fit around the clunky factory clutch fan shroud! We are glad you guys are here and excited to bring you useful information in an entertaining way!

I have an 03 Yukon that I bought from my mom and I want to pretty much follow your build process to make a fun toy when I get something else to drive and I can start upgrading the Yuk. It's the same color and wheels as Uncle Rob just 2WD. I think I will name it Mamaw Kay in honor of my mom. Hopefully I can get it built and Uncle Rob sticks around long enough for a meet up.

I was stuck in the house all day Friday due to bad seasonal allergies and since I have an '03 Suburban I was looking on CZcams for installing a turbo. I came across your videos and watched two of them in their entirety about your uncle's Yukon. Thoroughly enjoyed them and yes, I'd love to see more junkyard adventures! I appreciate the build content because it shows what has to be done to make things work properly, and the amount of work needed to make everything work in unison. Uncle Rob's Yukon is going to be a guided missile when you finish all the upgrades on it.
I hear ya on the clutch fan setup, my '94 K2500 big block 1 ton chassis Suburban has one and it sounds like a B-29 on takeoff roll when it engages. It cools nicely, but you can sure feel it suck the engine down!

All that wiring gave me flashbacks of when I bagged my 2001 Silverado, and in order for it to lay frame with the 24’s I had to relocate alllll of the wiring on that driver side fender, and make a custom inner fender! Good times! Not..... 😂

The smoothest, most quiet fans I ever installed were from a Lexus RX3 somethin somethin....i just grabbed them from pick and pull. The width was right for an s10. But I went toggle switch route. Cheap upgrades are the best upgrades
I've done the E-Fan Mod on every GMt800 I've ever owned but I didn't bother with pinning the harness or the hassle of programming the ecu. I ran with the Flex-A-Lite #106999 vari-speed stand-alone Fan Controller. Flawless operation with no problems.
I think this makes the most sense to me. The truck doesn't know whether there is a clutch fan there or not. Pretty sure this is the route I am going with on my 2003.
Did you use a stock style fan? I'm hearing you must change to the large radiator as well?

I did a Black Magic EFan upgrade on my gen1 Dakota with a 318 and it made such a difference in low end power and sound while driving around. One of the best mods ever. Mine has a tstat controller and a switch power from the ac compressor so it's such an awesome setup for a daily service truck.

I found out about you through 1320 videos with the Escalade I’m pretty new to the channel I’ve been watching for about half a year. Love that you stay yourself and love the family videos.
Just did this mod on my 2000 Chevy Silverado 4x4 Z71 1500 last fall. Best money I ever spent on this truck, HP Tuners is amazing for being able to activate them and set temps.
EDIT: I have LED Shop Lights and couldn't find my hood mounted light with clamps. I just used the chains and hooks that came with the LED Ship light and hung it from the inside hood of my truck while I did my cam swap, it fit perfect.

I already swapped from 4.3 to 5.3 and sourced and installed the big radiator and E fans. Now i need to find that harness from a junkyard. You definitely took the guesswork out for me

Great video. It's usually a good idea to remove the battery completely when working on the ecu that close to electricity/battery and also probably not have your phone around it. It's rare for bad things to happen but trust me I've learned the hard way!
for anyone wondering, this swap works in OBS trucks with A LOT of cutting and modification to the core support
There is not that much cutting to make it work. I put them in my 2 door Tahoe. There was only so e minor cutting and welding on the lower core support to put tabs in to hold the fans, and I added so e mounts to the upper radiator mounts to bolt the top of them to. Most overlook the lower radiator hose that needs changed to one from a big block iirc to get clearance.
You 2 are my kind of people!! Lol .. hell sometimes you got to deal with a little crust and just stick it in !!

Keep an eye on the relay setup. I’ve got an 06 Yuk with factory fans. One day I got in it and the battery was dead. Couldn’t figure out wtf was wrong.
Long story short, I was walking my dogs at 2am and the damn fans were blowing full blast 🤷🏻♂️
Changed all the relays; no bueno..
Ended up unplugging the wire on the AC and it stopped🤷🏻♂️

You have helped me out sooo much by doing this video. I have learned exactly what to get from the pick-n-pull and then how to actually put it into play. I don't have a turbo in my 03' Tahoe, so that will not be in my way. I watched some other videos that required some high dollar, to me, harnesses and computer HP tuners and such. I was looking for a factory OEM plug and play that wasn't too crazy to do outside in the heat for this old man. I just sub'd, although I have been lurking for a while.

Harbor freight has a braun hood rechargeable led hood light for like 40$ really pretty nice light for the price and will fit a lot of hoods 😁😁😎

2 more things first I think I'd watch Logan do just about anything and second if you take your frayed sleeving and fold it under it will stop the fraying from going any further.

I'm unsure what cfm Escalade efans pull but I recently swapped my 07 nnbs tahoe efans from a 5 & 7 blades for a Escalade/ 2500 7&9 blades.
The ones I got were from TYC 7&9 blades.
