    Excellent advice thank you. Whilst having to rectify a 3" bodged body lift done by a previous owner the bottom half of a radiator cowling had been removed to get the fan blades to clear and this probably compounded matters even further by drawing cold air over the viscous coupling causing the fan to slip instead of getting enough hot air from the radiator to operate the fan clutch correctly. I believe this misalignment eventually led to head gasket failure.

    Thanks a lot for this video! This was exactly what was wrong with my truck. The fan was running constantly and made my truck sound like a semi everywhere I went. It was very obnoxious

    Awesome tips. Another is to tighten in the direction of fan blade slant .blade . Blades slant left tighten left right to loosen

    Thanks brother, you got a solid foundation, and i can tell you got a good heart. keep up the good work. And this video helped btw, justed needed to know if a spinning fan while off was bad...and it seems like it is. Another repair for me! But its all good, gotta replace the ac comp anyway. Cheers!

    We had a series of accidents that each resulted in having to replace the fan clutch.
    One new one seemed just too tight. It always sounded like an airplane and I could feel the extra loading to the engine.
    I returned it and the new one they gave me was way better.
    It made noise when first warning up, but after that it was quiet and the engine didn't feel like it was working harder. It was a perfect setup.
    Unfortunately, there was another accident and that fan clutch had damage and was replaced.
    The new one was back to being too tight.
    This one came from another auto parts store. I returned it and the replacement wasn't much better.
    I asked both stores if there was a particular specification I had to ask for, they said no, just go for an oem fan clutch.
    I don't have an issue with overheating, it's probably cooling more than needed, especially in winter.
    I'm about to remove the fan clutch and try driving it to see the difference.
    On one hand, I am thinking of getting an electric fan and eliminating the fan clutch.
    This is on a truck, but it's not used for heavy towing or anything like that. I can see having one that would come on more if I was towing something.

    i hear the roaring noise, and loss of acceleration, but only when i climb up hills . I have an electric fan clutch and it spins immediately on cold engine starts, and i thought they dont spin until engine gets warm/hot? the clutch it seems is very stiff when engine is off (It turns, but with a some effort). after i start the car and shut it off it appears to freewheel then..do you hink my fan clutch is bad, or possibly something else? Im not getting overheating at all, but i assume thats because the fan spins all the time?

    Easy way To know if fan nut is right or left hand . Standing at front of vehicle , Look at your fan blade’s angle direction . If the left side is the side of blade is closer to the radiator than the right . Then that is standard right hand threads, righty tighty ,lefty loosy.

      Also, reverse threaded fan clutch nuts have notches on them

    Mine 97 4runner makes an extremely loud whirring noise when accelerating and doesn't have the power it should. The engine runs like new and has a rebuilt transmission with about 500 miles on it. The fan doesn't spin free and it doesn't wobble. It won't make the whirring noise if it's in "Park" but does upon acceleration. Do u have any advice?

    • @Reddog08
      @Reddog08 Před 6 měsíci

      If all you hear is that whirring noise nonstop while driving, the clutch is locked up.

      Clogged or obstructed radiator, inoperative pressure cap, cooling system leak, faulty ECT sensor, worn (or missing) drive belt... could be many causes.

      @@Top5AutoRepairs I changed the fan clutch and still nothing. Looks like it’s going to be the compressor. Ive changed everything except the compressor and the evaporator. I doubt it’s the evaporator.

    Can it cause transmission problems?

    • @CerealKiller.
      @CerealKiller. Před rokem +1

      yes and no. If trans has an oil cooler radiator and it's plumped to engine cooling system then yes it might raise temperature if engine overheats. For older cars it wont make any effect
