Will this Johnson 40 hp outboard run and can I ever figure out this prop?

Hello Matt. First, thanks to Ryan for his service it is very appreciated. Second, I've also never worked on a boat motor, but did you try engaging the drive to see if the propeller spun? I remember my dad working on his Elgin 6 or 7 horse engine. He built a stand and had a trash can filled with water to test it. He'd put in gear and water would fly! Lol

Hello George. I thought about doing that. I still have some cold starts to do before I'm completely happy with how it's running. I think after that I may try that.

It’s at the right idol speed the red thing is I think your auto choke kick off running fine nice strong motor I could see in the video that when you moved the red switch the choke butterfly were opening and shutting off all ways make sure your motor is pumping water out off the hole at the top some times dirt dobbers make a nest in it and block of the out flow. If your selling it I would suggest you tell the next person to change the impeller for the water pump as they go hard there rubber to do the job it involves unbolting the lower leg drive if you do change it your self grease the new one

Is that a j40plsrs? That red lever does the auto choke, vertically its manual choke. Moved forward it auto primes when you hold the key in for a few seconds

Hey Jim. I thought the same thing. Turns out it's a way to adjust how much fuel gets primed at startup
