We like to test new tires, like these Firestone Destination X/T, under relatively controlled circumstances with a back-up plan if something goes sideways. We literally mean - sideways. Driving alone through a partial rockslide in the pouring coastal rain is a long way from controlled, but a great way to test tires. Although the pucker factor is on the high side.

What is your favourite tire and do you think the Firestone X/T's could be your next replacement?
So far, Destination A/Ts have been my go-to tire, but living in South Western Ontario, the winters can get and have been really nasty... I've been extremely happy with Firestone destination ats, but I just might switch to the XTs as a replacement
This is definitely going to be my next set of tires for my Jeep after my stock good year sra’s are worn out which should be soon
i am considering these. I am about to replace my general grabber AT2 - 265 70R 17 E class. I put them on my brand new Ram 1500 3.6L 8spd within days of buying the truck. At this point i have put literally 117000KMS on them and i still have about 1/8" before i hit the wear indicator. I have driven in all types of terrain from extreme sharp gravel rocks, very thick deep sticky mud, super soft dry sand and snow as deep as the tire itself, i have also done a fair amount of hauling, no towing though. They never ever let me down. I want them again but they have been replaced and i dont want the new ones and I am considering these destinations
I have these tires and love them, been 13 mos and zero complaints except not enough snow to play in.
Running kumho at51 in the summer and studded cooper m+s in winter. 235/85r16. Leaning towards the bfg commercial traction for next summer but might give these xt’s a go if they come in my size.
I'm a tire sales associate at my job and in the area we live in (southern California), MTs or hybrid tires aren't too much of a big market - not as much as high performance summer tires but this is a really good review. Glad I found this channel!

I'm getting 2 X/Ts mounted today. Hoping they hold up better on the front end better than the discontinued Destination M/Ts they are replacing. The new tire formula sounds interesting, and the tire lug and sipes look to be an improvement for wear n tear.
Great review. I drive a dually truck a lot off road and working in fields. Ordered 2 of these for the front that are going to be wider than stock. Central Illinois we get all kinds of weather ice snow and a lot of mud lol. Again great review
Used to be a die hard BFG guy but the Destination tires just blew me away. They really do reduce hwy noise. Also mine grip way better than KO2s on sketchy packed clay / dirt while aired down and float well on sand hills and snow.

Sept. 2021 Update. I decided on the Destination XT tires over others (General Grabber ATX and Goodyear DuraTrac and more and also who could miss the BFG KO2). Well, for now with summer city freeway and local driving, the 1st thing I noticed against my previous Michelin Defender LTs is that this far more aggressive tire is only slightly noisier (maybe 10-15% at most), a positive surprise. The rough portions of road and scraped road construction pavement sounded more muted and bump energy seemed to be better absorbed than my Michelins (could be the Firestone’s bigger tread blocks and compounds). So far, very positive. Next update is when I hit gravel roads in the Rocky Mtn foothills or similar.
Great test, thank You. Very helpfull, I need a tire replacement next spring for my 2014 RAM 1500 5.7 HEMi 4x4 with Airsuspension and 275/60R20 Tires. The original Goodyear Wrangler Silent Armor are 83 k km (a little over 50 k miles) on the truck and there is almost half of the tire tread deep left. But the wet grip is getting worse. How is the wet grip of the Firestone Destination XT? Last winter was without snow, but five years ago we had up 15 inches of snow on the nearby hills (2500 ft).The RAM does occationally tow a trailer with a gross weigth of 4.500 lbs. Some country roads in this region have steep grades up to 18 percent. I live in Southwest Germany, 25 miles east of Benztown (Stuttgart) on 1100 ft. Thanks for Your advice!
I got a set of Destination XT's for my Ram 1500. They are incredible, and I hardly even notice the road conditions unless it is glare ice. These are the first all terrains I've ever used, however I would certainly recommend them to anybody needing some extra support in the winter time. When compared to my old Wrangler SRA's, which were pretty much just racing slicks lol, you can feel that the tires are a bit more rigid (Which I believe is because the Destinations are 10 ply (?) vs the 4 ply (?) of the SRA tires) ride, however they are just as quiet, keep the truck stable, and have let me go anywhere I have needed to without any hindrance.
If you can get these bought and installed for less than $1200 dollars like I did, I do not think there is a better deal available.
Got a price from Firestone dealer today on the Destination X/T's for my '14 Ram 1500. $1116.85 which includes Road Hazard insurance. Probably gonna get them next week.

Would you recommend these new firestone on 2 wheel drive dually 1 ton pull camper trailers across canada to dealerships. Or is the goodyear wrangler dura Trac a better tire for the 2 wheel drive thanks and enjoy your videoes

Since last commenting, I watched your and others Grabber ATX tire review. I am thinking of either. Any further comment why you might suggest one over the other? I have a 2020 Chevy 2500HD gas, live in Alberta and have studded winter tires.
Put them in my 05 TJ (31×10.5×15). ...love them ! Like them much better than the previous Goodyear Dura Trac

I have GY DuraTrac's, great but noisy near end-life. What is your opinion on these Destination XT highway noise? Do they hum much compared to the DuraTrac?
I would say XT were alittle less noisy...but they are not an AT so there will be a hum with the windows down
I would like to see your review of these tires after 40,000 or 55,000 miles of use. That’s the real meat and potatoes on how good a tire really is. Would you live with them review.
I got 9k miles on mine 265/55/r20 silverado 1500 and there still 15/32nds like factory new
I still have the Firestone A/T's that came with my TH. They've been a good tire overall, but not great in the snow or mud. Firestone has the A/T2 now and this X/T. 32K on my stock tires now, so I'm starting to look around for a replacement. Thanks for your review of the X/T's. Southern Oregon, where I live, gets well into the 90F's and can get over 100F fairly often. I'm concerned the three peak tires will melt down in that heat! KO2's had the three peak, but came out with the KO2 DT that aren't three peak, because of wear issues. At least that's what I've read. Tough to get a tire to do it all, so I'll probably get a set of dedicated winter tires and KO2 DT's or the A/T2's. So many tires to choose from! BTW, I have a set of Nokian Hakkapeliita winter tires that are amazing on ice and packed snow. I thought they'd disintegrate on gravel, as I often travel on it to get to the snow, but they are holding up great!
We get pretty hot here in the Okanagan Valley as well in the summer - same temps as you. Firestone XT's should hold up well - we'll find out! Good to hear about your Nokians.

If one can afford 2 sets of tires then that's always the best way to go and it's what I've always done with cars. Nokian Hakkapalita winter tires are absolutely the best. But now that I have a truck I'm interested in saving money by buying a set of all weather tires. Trying to decide between these Destination XT (the large amount of jagged Sipes make me think it will do best on ice which is what I want) vs Nokian Rotiiva AT plus which doesn't have the jagged Sipes and I think is a harder compound. Rotiiva will last more kms but I don't want to sacrifice winter grip.
So for Canadian harsh winters if you were picking an all weather tire would you go with Destination XT, Rotiiva or how about the Cooper Discoverer XT4?

@@galaxyphone7784 I actually came to the conclusion that I wanted to buy the Yokohama Geolander AT G015. I decided to save my money though cuz I traded my 20" Ram Sport rims (with VERY worn out tires) for 17" rims that have decent Goodyear Wranglers. They performed excellent on very cold tarmac and snow and slush but poorly on ice. I expect the Geolander to be quote a bit better on ice. I might get them this fall or next fall but that's the one I intend to get when I decide I can afford the upgrade.
How are they compared to falken at3w for snow traction?
Albeit there are several types of snow, powder, wet, dry, frozen, I prefer deep treads, like E load 16/32nds deep tread
on my Duratracs for plowing through deep snow. New tires that start at 12 or 13 /32nds will be about useless as they wear down to 8 or 6 /32nds. We really need C rated tires with tread 16/32nds to keep tire weight down.
I thought Kevlar was going to replace steel belted tires, I think it's the steel belts that contribute most of the weight.
With tire reviews, please include the tread depth as this contributes to the traction in mud and snow.
I think I will stick with my duratracs for my hunting Jeep for snow
I'm driving on bologna skin bfg rugged fails......yeah I know but I got them used and really only bought them for the wheels. Thats the whole reason I'm watching tire videos. I had bfg at ko2's before these ones and they were absolutely awesome but wore out way too fast. I literally got around 12k miles out of them on a f250 6.8 v10

Some sites claim that 3 peak + snowflake rating is minimally adeaqute for occassional ice/snow in well maintained places. Those heavy winter climes with poorly or unmaintained roads or with severe winter should opt for Nordic tires.
Thanks for commenting! Some sites maybe talking about cars and highway driving. My experience is the the 3 peak and snowflake is more than adequate for snow covered climates, especially with unmaintained roads, while a dedicated winter ice tire - like the Goodyear Winter Nordic you're referencing - is great on icy snow covered paved roads/highways. When it comes to trucks, these tires are often not availble in the correct size. For instance, I quickly checked the Canadian Tire website and there is no Winter Nordic available for my Wrangler.

@Fact Checker fyi, I have over 10 years working/managing in the tire industry. While I agree, there is no comparison to a true dedicated winter tire, the difference between a standard A/T and one that is rated Tri peak for winter is definitely noticable. they have a softer compound to work better in winter and usually lots of extra siping that is serrated for added ice traction.

One thing I haven’t had any luck getting an answer for (including from Firestone & Bridgestone’s websites) is why the Destination XT is incredibly light when compared with other mildly aggressive all-terrain tires. Shoot; in any equal size, they were the lightest A/T tire I could find...even lighter than the 265/60R20 Wrangler SR/A “mall-terrains” on my 2500HD. My concern is that for a tire they market as their heavy duty option, it’s not very heavy. Does that translate into increased weakness compared with their competitors?
Also, how do you feel these tires did against the ATX and AT3W you’ve also tested? I’d appreciate your feedback.

@@Icutmetal unless it's changed (I haven't looked into it) but Firestone Destination line always had a 3 ply sidewall, direct competition for BFGoodrich 3ply sidewall tires.
Jason Morehouse Not the AT’s; and definitely not the AT2 or XT. Not all LT-rated KO2’s have a three ply sidewall, either, which people overlook. The LT C-rated KO2 models have a two ply, for example.
Need an excellent winter tire for my F-150 that is not a dedicated winter tire. Can anyone provide recommendations? Is it the tire above in the video; the Firestone Destination XT? I'm also seriously considering the Falken Wildpeak and the Mazama Open Range All Terrain. Any experienced recommendations are appreciated. i don't do serious off-roading but spend plenty of time on fire roads and washboard.
My f150 has had the XT on for 2 summers and 1 winter and I live in Canada I can tell you these are great tires and they still look new with very minimal wear
Had the Falken Wildpeak on my last truck. Looking into new tires, how do these compare to the Wildpeak?
I have both tires in the same size 285/70/17 on my Jeep Gladiator. Both are excellent tires but I give the winter traction win to the firestone. I use the falkens on my factory rubicon wheels for the other 3 seasons.
@@betweenthepines4000 The Siping on the X/T is as deep as the tread. Unlike the Falkens . This will ensure better snow and wet traction the whole life of the tire.

Well, the AT2 is out since it’s not made anymore. The Grabber ATX replaced it. I could see how the XT could outperform the KO2 in snow and wet conditions, but I’d have to imagine the KO2 is considerably tougher- it’s a fair amount heavier as well.

I am using the Yokohama X-AT and really like them right now...about as much or slightly better than the Nitto Ridge Grapplers....I have a 20 F250 with the 7.3 and wanted a Tremor but went with a Lariat sport package and a Carli 3" level lift. I like these Firestones if the same on the Tremor I tested...quieter than the Ridge Grapplers and X-AT... but I need a 37x12.5x20. I prefer a HD tire for my 20 F250 and not certain if they have that size and if they are HD enough.. Handling is excellent, snow is good but wet performance could be better and I think that is the compound. Wear is excellent..time will tell but for now pleased. If I get 40k miles out of this set it will be hard trying anything else. Always looking for that perfect tire. Good Review,
Can you keep these tires air pressure at 35 psi being a LT tire. For more of a comfortable ride.

I'm so torn between these because they're light or the new MT Baja Boss AT because it looks so badass. I drive a Tundra that has KO2's now, that are 58lbs, the Firestone is only 49lbs, but the Baja Boss are 68lbs! Can anyone tell me what kind of MPG's I would get?
Im running them on my silverado,soo far they have been great, i haven't noticed any difference from mileage from the street tire before and road noise is very small.im in FL so no snow test but these things eat in the sugar sand and mud
@@Aaron-hi9vp My truck is blacked out with aftermarket wheels and 33's. I think I'm going Baja Boss AT just because they are so badass looking. If firestone did something to make the sidewall more attractive, they'd sell a lot more tires.
@@jesseashmore8426 at 68lbs a tire your gonna notice performance loss with acceleration and stoping. Your Mpg’s will take a serious hit from that rotational weight especially on a 1/2 ton truck. The main reason I’m considering the X/T is for its light weight. Surely they don’t look as tough as I’d like. I still think they are a good compromise for someone who does 90% Highway/city.
@@Bumataur General ATX has a 275/70 SL thats only 46lbs. Its the only SL in that size so Im going with it. I dont need a 10 ply tire.

275/60/20 size these are 52 lb/ea (my BFG AT2 is 55 lb,)...Load E (vs Load D BFG). Plys 2 vs 3 (BFG)...not sure how Firestone rates at Load E with less Ply?.. they are a whopping $35/ea more $$ thru Tire Rack too (and I have a WS account). .that being said, might give a try when I replace BFG's next year..
I currently have Firestone Destination X/T’s on a Ram 2500. I’m not impressed with traction and stopping ability compared to BFG A/T2’s. About 60% of the traction in snow and about 30% in mud. I had 3 sets of BFG A/T2’s on this truck prior and I can’t get any mileage out of them around 40k they start to separate and come apart. But traction was good. Not sure what brand I will try next but won’t be Firestone X/T
C’mon now, you’re talking about sidewalk plies and what’s that got to do with a tire having an E rating? Plenty of E-rated tires out there with two-ply sidewalls.
It’s seem from the video that the snow seems still packed in the treads due to so many many lugs in center of tire but that’s just my non expert opinion.2cents I think wider spacing and more stipen for snow is best
Actually snow traction comes from snow being packed in the tire. If the snow didn’t pack in like that it wouldn’t perform great
Thomas Clark actually the sipes inside the main tread is to allow traction but the tire compound is supposed to flex and release the snow as the tires rotate to allow it to grab more snow as if the snow stayed in the tread the tires would loose traction and just spin

I run Hankook MTs RTOM3, I have tried several state of the art tires and these out performed anything else. FYI I actually wheel, my jeep is off road as much as on, I will keep with these Hankooks

I have two sets of tires for my gen1 Avalanche since we have proper winter here. My winter tires are Nokian R3 SUV in 265/70R17. Winter has barely started so I haven't been able to try them out properly but I had the first iteration of these tires on a Tahoe years ago and they were superb. I see no reason why the R3 should do worse.
Any explanation at their weight? They seem fairly light in comparison to other tires it's size and style
I noticed the same exact thing; compare it to any tire (even typically lighter duty all season tires), and the XT is a fair amount lighter. I tried contacting Firestone directly to inquire about that, and got a major runaround- both on phone and email. I was directed to Bridgestone America; their parent company, for a higher level runaround. How can a tire that’s marketed as a heavy duty choice be so light? I’m just a curious person with a reasonable question.

TheD1rtyRider Yep, I got the same thing. I went thru more run-around to get an answer to than most people would have, with the same outcome. Ask your local Firestone store. I get it...you don’t want my question answered. 100% runaround.
Must be built with the “Magnesium” of rubbers. Super light but strong AF. I Can’t find anything on the subject either. Rubber and tire technology is always advancing!

I put XT’s on my ram at the recommendation of the dealer instead of my Blizaks that I normally run. They are crap. My truck slides in a half of inch of snow like they we slicks even in 4x4 mode. I pulled into my driveway and slid into my other car was just creeping and they just kept sliding. They will be gone this week!!! Don’t believe this reviews!!

So we are to believe that because you had a poor experience vs. most of the other reviews online that have been mainly positive- especially in snow, that they should be avoided at all cost. Makes sense.
