    I drove a 2004 4runner SR5 4.0 from 2007-2016, I went to college in NH and grew up in VT. Hands down, the early version of A-Trac and locking center diff in these 4runners does amazing things. I can remember "clawing" up ice driveways in 4-LOW with all brakes firing to distribute power AND it still moved forward. These are great SUVs for snow and not terrible on gas IF you're grama for the drive.

    • @747-pilot
      @747-pilot Před 3 lety +8

      I would NEVER pay $7,000 for a 4runner with 350K miles. That is insanity. But there are always nutjobs out there. And these suckers (there is a sucker born every minute, as they say) drive up prices for everyone else. Yes, it's a bulletproof reliable Toyota and whatnot 🙄 ....but no vehicle is worth that kind of money with that mileage. Around $4K at best for something like that. Actually a vastly better deal, would be to cough up a little more dough and get a 4runner with half that mileage and possibly a bit newer for just around 3 to 4K more than the 7K you just threw away!

      Can you explain why the 285/70/17s are so light compared to other tires in the same size? Just curious of carcass construction is all. My wheeling, from a scale of 1-10, probably never exceeds a 6 or 7. I just want to get me to a great fishing spot. But I just encounter a lot of rocks here in Colorado and need sidewall strength. Discount Tire employee here! Those early/mid 2000's Toyotas can be very finnicky with TPMS. My dad just had new sensors put in his 4Runner and the light started flashing again. When you take it back make sure they program the sensors for right country of origin - some were made in the US/Canada, some in Japan. When I've relearned Toyotas before I have just assumed US made when they weren't, and this makes a big difference, and can cause the light to come back on. If the light is just solid though, not flashing, your pressures may just be low because its cold out!
    Clarification: country of origin of the Car, not the sensors lol

    Since the front bumper makes it sag a little lower in the front and since they were already lower in the front than in the back from the factory I think a 2inch front spacer lift would help you out nicely they go on top of your struts up front and they are around 60$ on Amazon.

    I owned a 2004 4 Runner purchased brand new. It was great for the first 3 years then things were malfunctioning and braking left and right. Thr center console information screen flickered on and off. Can't duplicate it. Thr factory radio and single CD player failed. $700 to buy a replacement. Thr dash board instrumentation died. Another $700 to replace a circuit in the dash. The center diff was leaking. $1,400 to fix. The rear passenger wheel bearing went out. Another $1,600 to repair. It was a atoyota so I didn't buy an extended warranty. Oh what a feeling!
    The 4.7 V8 engine was good. The tranny was good. No rear cameras. No back lighting for any controls in the door or steering wheel. Power windows? No light. Power lock? No lights. Cruise control on the steering wheel? No lights. Of course, in the daytime you dont notice these deficiencies. Manual seats would sink after being raised to the right height. Just unacceptable level of quality and design and charging $34,000 for it.

    Dude these tires are the holy grail in general for an all around all terrain tire, I have them in 275/70R17 on a 2011 R51 Pathfinder: czcams.com/video/GPrh8fUhbL0/video.html with a 1.5" suspension lift. It is my budget lite-overlander. I live in Atlantic Canada any anything older than 2010 is rusting apart, and 2011 4Runners are nearly double the price of my Pathy, so I take the crappy rear independent suspension as compromise. Anyway these tires are way lighter than something like a KO2 or Duratrac, so going a size or 2 up is hardly a hit on fuel economy, brakes and drivetrain wear and tear. They wear down so much better, everyone on CZcams who hits 30 or 40k miles on them can't believe they still have grip when KO2s would be like slicks. I can't hear them on the highway, and they have 3 peak snow rating. I haven't used mine in winter yet but after your review I can't wait for the snow to come.
