  • I just installed a set of 37x12.50R17 Firestone Destination M/T2’s on 17x9.5 Procomp Series 51 Rock Crawler Steel wheels last week. In this first impressions video I will go into details on my new wheel and tire package, review some of the OEM details, add in some additional details I find useful, and finish off with how to reprogram your ECU to account for the larger tire size.
    I am not sponsored by nor am I being paid by Firestone or Procomp for this first Impressions.
    I have heard good things about the performance of these tries having been out since 2017 and the new Jeep JLU Willys Edition are running these tires from the factory.

    The stock tires on my Cherokee Trailhawk were the destination AT , the all terrain version and they have low noise and really good grip off road

    • @VictorVectorJKU
      @VictorVectorJKU  Před rokem +2

      Where are you located? I personally think AT tires are a great choice for many terrains with really the primary downfall is mud since they won’t clear well. But I think, because of the number of biting edges makes them great for rocks, sand, dirt, gravel, road, snow and even ice when new!

    • @fordfiveohh
      @fordfiveohh Před rokem +1

      @@VictorVectorJKU Alabama. I use cooper AT3 4s now. It's trading trade offs. The coopers are WAY better wet traction on road but the destination AT weren't bad mostly but they were scary during emergency braking on wet pavement. The firestones probably had better bite off road , however I went with wider tires which when aired down make a bigger footprint do it was a good compromise. The coopers did better than I thought in the mud up to the point of being rim deep in the mud. At that point they start to reach their limit . The electronics are so dang good on the Cherokee Trailhawk though to where it almost doesn't care what tire you put on it. I bet I could throw on Goodyear vivas and slam on the gas in the rain on a turn and wouldn't have that much wheelspin. The torque vectoring and all of that is absolutely insane.
      It's basically like driving on dry pavement. I can gas as hard as I want in the rain and turn as hard as I want . You can floor it around curved on ramps to the interstate and nothing happens. Incredible vehicle . It has tons of wheel lift off road compared to a wrangler but it makes it anyway especially since it has a factory rear locker.
      There aren't many cars with AWD and 4wd and low range and rear locker ... And 4 wheel independent suspension... It's a unicorn... Maybe the landrover defender is like it. I can't think of another vehicle besides that. Not even one.
      People on the Cherokee forums report up to 100,000 miles on the stock firestone destination AT. I can vouch for that . I still have mine in my garage. They have plenty of tread left with 50k miles on them . I just wanted bigger tires basically. I'm tempted to put the old tires back on during the summer and let the sun melt the old ones. You can get a lot of tread wear pretty fast when it gets really hot out.

    No re gear ? No new axles ? Won't it break ?

    • @VictorVectorJKU
      @VictorVectorJKU  Před rokem +2

      Hey there fordfiveohh, thanks for checking out my video! And at the point of upgrading the tires, I did not re-gear or upgrade the axles. The Dana 30 front end I would consider stock is having its limits pushed with 37’s but the rear Dana 44 is decently within reason. I wheeled on these axles with these tires for just over a year and had one failure due to too much wheel speed and a bound up front end. That caused my spider gears to shear. Other than that I had no issues other than stalling more frequently since I have a manual while off-roading and not having low enough gears.
      In my opinion, most failures come from bad situations, lack of seat time, and understanding of a vehicles limits! Every upgrade comes with new considerations and fore thought to what those situations could be can save you from breaking on the trail!

      Hey there Adam, thanks for checking out my video! They have been solid tires! I think I am around 30-40k miles and I think I’m still at or over 50% tread life. They have handled most all environments quite well. They do have decent road noise but this isn’t a major concern for me. I will have to make a review video soon to capture more accurate details, but for the $315 per tire I paid for them back in 2020 I feel they are a great value for their performance and appearance!

    I have the 35 12.5 r20 on my 2023 ram 1500. I read these larger tires will damage tge transmussion and rear differential. Any thioghts on that? The dealer had these on and a front level. They are smooth, quiet, and I don't need to put more money out to change new tires but need to if they'll damage the trans. Yep to beefy.

    • @VictorVectorJKU
      @VictorVectorJKU  Před 6 měsíci

      Hey there Semlohde1, thanks for checking out my video! So anytime you modify anything from stock the wear patterns and service intervals change for other components such as transmission, suspension, axles, and brakes to list a few. If you are concerned with that I would recommend you go back to the stock size listed on the door label. It is a choice and recognition that upgrades make.

      Thank you Kylor! They are doing well, there is a little more noise with about 5k miles on them which is expected but it isn’t bad. Hey there Alerumba, yeah they are great and I love the look too! So I have not noticed a big amount of road noise because really the Jeep has more wind noise when driving. They are definitely fine on road and I think I have around 6-10k miles on them now. I am ok with the sacrifices of on road performance in wet and icy conditions with MT’s. It would really come down to what terrain you take your H3 off road in and how frequently because MT’s are not always better than AT’s.

    • @VictorVectorJKU
      @VictorVectorJKU  Před 3 lety +1

      Awesome, congrats Neilson! Just looking up the build sheet for the willys package it appears you will have either the 2.45 or 2.73 gear ratio based on options selected. It should also be listed on the build paper if you have access to that. There are a couple other tricks to determine ur axle gear ratio if you don’t have the build paper and don’t want to pull the differential cover.
      When you say teaser I assume you mean Tazer for reprogramming the computer for the correct tire size? That will be necessary or go to the dealer to have the computer flashed or I believe the vehicle will go into limp mode. My JKU went into limp mode and I needed to correct the tire size after upgrading to my 37’s!
      I have also hear that the 8 speed actually does very well with tires up to 35’s and maybe even 37’s but that is just what I have heard, not from experience.
      Also if this is your first Jeep, then welcome to the family and if it isn’t then congrats on the new purchase!
