Mounting Up 37” X 13.5" WIDE BFG KM3 Tires on the Jeep Wrangler and WHY!

- This time on the AutoEdits Jeep Wrangler Rubicon we mount up a set of 37" BFGoodrich KM3 tires on the Vision bead lock wheels I've been running for a few years now.
The most unique thing one might find interesting in this video is the size of the @bfgoodrichtires KM3 tire I'm running... a 37 x 13.5 R17 !!!
That's right... I'm going down a size from the 38" Milestar Patagonia tires to the KM3's in a 37" size but staying with the 13.5" width.
Will most @jeep folks mount up their own Mud Terrain tires on bead lock wheels in the garage for their own Jeeps? Probably not, and I honestly think MOST people don't need bead lock wheels. The new bead on these tires is so durable that most Jeeping applications would be fine on a standard rim... even at low tire pressures off road.

Great choice, Jason! Glad to have you in the #BfGoodrich family! Was really hoping you went with the KM3's, and you did not disappoint. Looking forward to seeing how they handle and how you like them for commuting and off-roading!
Thanks! I’m genuinely excited 🤘
New autoedits video… I have to watch and support my guy Jason!
I appreciate this very much!
@10:04 "Probably overkill but that's just me." There's nothing wrong with taking pride in your work Jason. 👍
Love hearing this!
Great recap. Thanks for sharing it. 🤟😎
Thanks for watching!
Nice to see km3s on it. To my surprise I like the look of the 37s more than 38s but it also could be that the km3 looks light-years better than the milestars. Great job as always!
The looks of the Pats grew on me over time but I agree that the KM3’s are just a great looking tire!
@@AutoEdits How much louder are the km3's on road?
They also smaller than normal 37s
nice job as always Jason
Thank you!
Oh man! 2:00-2:04 the RAM looks sick my friend! Extremely informative video.
Thanks dude... that truck is amazing.
I enjoy watching your video
I'm glad to hear that... I enjoy your comment.
Great choice of tires
Thanks!
Jason, another great video. Always inspiring me to do more with my rig! Whenever you plan on selling that Tahoe, I’d be happy to take it off your hands 😆
Awesome to here and 🤣
Yeah, I'm glad they have tire shops! :)
Right?! It's always way more work than I remember 🤣
Oh man, another autoedits video?! Thanks Jason! I upgraded tires on my JL to 37 inch ridge grapplers last year and it was a pretty big difference in terms of ride quality compared to my 34 inch ko2’s. A little more vibration, which I think is from the more aggressive tread pattern, and a little more wonder. With that said, the performance gains off-road and the cool factor negate any negative I incurred, lol
Right on! I've heard other folks say they like those tires as well... good pick!
Cleaning up the extra rubber gunk is definitely not overkill. I want the cleanest and best mating surface for my tires to adhere to, especially the bead. I do the same exact thing when changing tires. It's not overkill, it's perfection.
I agree and like to hear this from others!
Hey Jason, I know you like to always prep and go a little overkill so just want to recommend looking into the 3m adhesion promoter (rust-oleum also has a similar product). You apply it to anywhere you'll have 3m tape such as you used on the TPMS. It increases the bond strength by a lot and definitely recommend it.
Great suggestion, thanks!
Enjoyed the video, planning on upgrading to 37s soon, with beadlocks, lots to think about, I wanted to mention wheel and tire cleaner with soft brush also works good for fender wells.
Thanks for the tips!
They've definitely out done most tires other tires I've seen out on the trails. The KM3's grab extremely well and always surprise everyone watching!
I was one of those watching and now I'll be driving... lol!!!
Awesome video as always.. from the camera angles to the cuts it looked amazing. Love your attention to detail on the work you do, keep it overkill!
Would have loved to have seen a cleaning and detail video after your west coast adventure. I don't think I have ever seen your Jeep so dirty!
P.s. still waiting on the Corvette video! :D
Thanks for noticing the cuts... tried a little something different just for fun.
I have to do a rear pinion seal on the Vette soon... let me get it on jack stands and see how bad that's gonna be first... lol
I better get a shout out if you do haha
This was extremely enjoyable
Thank you!
@@AutoEdits Jason, you have no idea how much of an influence you've had on me. You've helped me build confidence in doing my own installs. The satisfaction I get from spending a whole Saturday working on my rig is second to none. Keep doing what you are doing.
@@noveltyrobot I can't even tell you how much I needed to hear this today... thank you for this amazing bit of inspiration to keep going!
I run the 39's and love them! They are like gold if you can find them.
Truth!
Hey Jason , great video my friend as always . The bead breaker tool is something I would not mind having in my arsenal . Though as you said a little pricey , i think it would pay for itself over time. I did go today to order my BFG's , but the funny thing is as your aware I live in Utah and the tires are coming from New Hampshire . Kinda crazy if you ask me . I'm glad you said something about the canter caps you use as I'm in the market for some for my Vision Manx wheels . Take care my friend and as always take care and pets to Pinto from me .
Thanks dude!
Love BFGs nice tires
I agree!
Looks awesome the km3 looks loads better than the patagonias but that's just my opinion, keep up the great work Jason 👍🏻
Thanks 👍 I agree.. the KM3's have much better curb appeal! 🤣
I miss Ram Johnson… bring her back. J/K all your videos are awesome. Keep it up.
I miss Ram Johnson too. 😢
Awesome video man. You should do a video on your tire pressure process. That’s something I recently failed on. 😢. That and I didn’t rotate them every 5K. It’s alright. Lesson learned. But I think you doing a chalk test video or whatever other method you know of would definitely be worth a watch. I’m always wondering what psi to run.
Great suggestion! I don't do chalk test on the offroad tires and just look at the treadwear... but I'll figure out something.
Great vid Jason love the content.
Funny that you are going from patty 38's to BFG 37's as I expect my patty 38's & KMC bead locks to be delivered today here in the PNW.
Cheers!
Which KMC did you get? That is the brand I would've chose if there was budget to get new ones this time around. Like I mention in the video... the 38 Pat's are fantastic. Just rotate them regularly and you'll be very happy.
@@AutoEdits 'M229 MACHETE BEADLOCK SATIN BLACK WHEEL"
Just looked those up... they kinda look like what I'm running now but with that supper cool beadlock ring that lets water drain! Such a cool feature.
@@AutoEdits Yeah they are close to what you have now. I tried to look up the weights of mine, and their site claims 45lbs ea wheel. I know yours are really light, but not sure what the weight is ea for yours.
@@TheRambler-pz1gx Under 20lbs and they are forged... but they were really expensive because racecar I guess 🤣🤣
Yeah, I went with km3s earlier this year. They’re good. I haven’t experienced snow with them yet.
I'm not worried at all... my buddy Nate runs them with great success in those conditions!
I ran the 39 km3 for a little over 2 years, wheeled all over southern NM eastern TX NC and eastern Arizona they were phenomenal I did slash 2 though near the end, they took so much abuse and did chunk some without failure. Now being said they are load range C and are softer than the 37 variety and perform much better than the 37 load range E my buddies hated those and never hooked on obstacles that my 39s did. Sucks their on back order you would have loved them!
I’ll accommodate for load range by airing down more.
Another thing that works great for tire dirt or oxidation is dawn dish soap, use about a tablespoon in a bucket full of water then wet your brush and tire and scrub the soap on rinse repeat and rinse
Great tip!
When I first started watching... You ran BFG, so I wanted those, then you switched to the Maxxis RZRMT, I ended up getting, the Pats I just can't do. But the new KM3 I have heard mixed reviews on... So I am awaiting your review after you run them for 10k miles or something
Well, I'll call it as we go along.
You forgot your camera at the end!! Great video, subscribed.
Thanks for the sub!
@@AutoEdits you bet, looking forward to more content. Would you mind telling me what video editing software you’re using?
Adobe Premiere👍 but I'm looking at Resolve as an option to save some money@@Bwatt5000
I've been thinking of going with the Patagonia. It's sounds like you really liked the.
Yes, I liked the Pats very much. Rotate them regularly and they will perform awesome.
The KM3 is such a better looking tire than the Patagonias. I am a sucker for squared off tires. They may weigh a bit more, but the stronger sidewall is nice. I have lost count of how many sliced Patagonias I have seen on various other channels.
True
i like my 35's super quiet and grippy. had no issues on hells revenge.
Glad to hear it!
Let's do this Jason!!! We'll take you on a very special tour of Rubicon....Matson or Will at Metal Cloak has my info. You're ready!!
I keep forgetting about that! Thanks for the reminder.
Another great, informative video. But one question. Why do you use stick on wheel weights over bead balancing your tires?
I tried beads and hated them. Too inconsistent. I spend a lot of effort dialing this thing in and having the wheel balance go out after hitting a bump was frustrating. Spin balance makes them perfect all the time in my experience.
Ive have put bfg mud tires on my work truck for 370,000 ish miles always got about 50,000 miles out of a set, this last time i tryed the ko2, ill see how well they last.
I'd be curious what you think of the switch since you have so much experience.
Nice video...Interesting choice. It doesnt seem apples to apples comparing the size of a soft rubber Patagonia with 35k miles to a new BFG. If the Patagonia was new, I imagine it's 2" taller than the bfg. The 39" km3 = 38" Patagonia in size and tire flex. The load e isnt going to flex like a load c BFG 39×13.50.
it’s just a size reference. I’m curious to learn about how to maximize flex with lower pressure.
I’m fixing to do the same with new KMC beadlocks and new set of Nittos 37x12.5x17 I’m going to try out. I liked your video. I’m thinking about using balancing beads that I’ve seen others on CZcams using. Do you have any thoughts on that? The local Discount Tire shop doesn’t want to handle beadlock wheels. Thanks and keep up the good work.
I DO NOT recommend balance beads. I tried them and they are extremely inconsistent.
How are you not covered in anti seize? Great video as always.
🤣🤘
Also glad to see a tire that says made in USA it matters
I agree.
Hi Pinto!
PATS FOR PINTO!
I truly appreciate your videos. I also run KM3s on my JK, 35" x 12.5", and they are my favorite.
I was wondering, with your Metalcloak long arm kit up front, what backspacing do you have on your wheels, what size spacers are you using, and what width is your Fusion 4x4 Elite 44 axle?
Not that I think you should, but have you had any issues with the front tires rubbing? Thanks!
lol, I just answered my own questions by watching your tuning video. Great stuff, thank you!
Ha! So awesome to see this… thanks for watching and the comments!
Have you though about using balancing beads that go inside the tire? I use them in my motorcycles and they work great.
I tried them and hated them. NEVER again on the Jeep.
Keep those 38 patagonias for sand!
Great suggestion but I'm looking to give them away to someone in Southern California that can just come and get them!
Hey Jason , I looked on your Amazon page and didn't see the center caps listed , Although I found some other stuff to order from your page . Ha Ha .

@@AutoEdits Thank you sir , I appreciate it.
How much will weight did you have on the Patagonia’s? I have fewer weights on my spare which I tore the bead on. Looks crazy.
Some took several ounces but when I had my buddies 37" Pats balanced... two of them didn't take any weight. The BFG's balanced up nicely with just a few ounces per tire and feel great on the road so far.
Tire availability is slowly coming back a tiny. If you ask me, the best tires are the ones that you can get your hands on haha. Hope they work well for you!
Very true! I have a good feeling about these.
I loved my KM2’s. Does the KM3 still have the noise/hum and that tractor tire feel at low speeds? Hoping the KM3 still does.
I have found the KM3's to be very civilized on the highway and around town but are extremely confidence inspiring on the trail czcams.com/video/_1iKfd567WQ/video.html
Hey Jason, any suggestions on keeping your spare from "greying" from the sun?
I have a very easy way to take mine off during times when I'm just doing my "city life" but it's mostly just for the view out the back window. That Lucas tire stuff has a UV protectant in it that keeps them fairly protected. Plus, I rotate every 4-5K so they stay fairly even.
👌
🙌
those dana 44s gonna snap like a toothpics xDDD
Not even... been wheeling on them with the 38's for years.
👍
🤘
So if we add the 1” of tread back onto the Patagonia.. the BFG is 2” smaller! I hope you have better luck balancing them. My entire club has given up on BFG for a street tire.
You think there’s an inch of tread gone? 🤣 Also, these balanced up perfectly… 85 mph like a dream. Sounds like your club needs to try a different tire guy.
@@AutoEdits we cover 3 states. No one is using the same guy. Maybe they fixed their issues. Multiple sets were bought back because even road balancing didn’t fix them.
That would be frustrating for sure!
What about load range on those tires? Isn’t the 13 1/2 inch wide only load range E? which is a very stiff sidewall mainly for a heavy pick up truck not a jeep I’m just curious I know a lot of people run that load range I love those tires I’ve had them on my jeeps and 39 inch I just got a bronco raptor and want to put that size tire on but the load range in the weight of it is a huge difference? Thanks for the info👍
Excellent question. For everyday mixed use, I actually get some peace of mind from the thicker sidewall. To get more flex, just go down with air pressure a bit more than usual. Here's my first time out with them and if you look... they flex plenty! I'm very happy. czcams.com/video/_1iKfd567WQ/video.html
Holy Rickshaw Batman, those tires weigh a lot
Compared to what? They are lighter than the comparable load E tires in the category.
@@AutoEdits - multiplied by four, that's a lot of reciprocating mass. Wouldn't want to turn those with a 3;45 rear end
Is the Ram 1500 still in your driveway? If so any new videos coming up about it?
Sold it last year.
I take it the Vision Manx Beadlock have done well?? I want them for my rig.
Yes, I'm very happy with the Manx wheels... very light and strong!
Do those tires have a lot of road noise? I had bfg's in the pastand they were loud. Thanks
Not much at all.
I’ll go Yokohama geo mt as my next tire
Cool!
Jason, are you still on the stock clutch?
Yes, stock clutch. I'm pretty gentle on that stuff so far.
30 PSI on Load E 37's. I'm gonna guess she feels a little firm Jason.
It's not bad at all... feels kind of good actually.
20:19 UPS Guy is sad he's not delivering to Jason.
HA!!! Good spot!
I'm considering the KM3s next, how's the road noise on them?
I still absolutely love them! I've been experimenting with air pressure and found that 35 psi on the highway is almost un-noticeable to regular Jeep sounds. Glad I got them.
@@AutoEdits Thank you for being the good but bad influence lol! They're pretty high on my list of tires that I'm debating between, how's the wet traction as well?
Very stable in the rain.
@@AutoEdits Awesome thanks Jason! I’ll get the wallet ready to cry in the corner lol
@@AutoEditsOne more question sorry, how’s the tread wear been for you? I’m putting between 10-17k miles a year on jeep with my kenda tires, and they’re at 14/32nds down from 19/32nds from the last 25k miles on them.
Do they make those in 18 inch rim??
I think so.
The made in USA...and sidewall is vast improvement over milestar.
Those are both very good points in my book as well!
@@AutoEdits Hopefully km3s will be better on next snow wheeling adventure.
When is this current tire shortage situation going to end?! I don't even daily my Jeep anymore because I can't replace my tires once the tread gets too low. I see folks doing these over the top builds with pallets of fresh, shiny new parts but with used tires. It's bonkers...and the select few that managed to hoard some big m/t rubber either have them vaulted or marking them up something ridiculous if they were to consider parting with them.
I think things are heading in the right direction.
Noooooooooo!!!!!!
Don't do it! Lol
I switched from ProComp to those KM3s and regretted every inch I drove on the road. So horribly rough compared to the ProComps.
Now, since you off-road far more than I ever did, maybe it'll be a better fit for you. But I hated the KM3s.
Just my two cents. Lol 😂👍
They actually feel really good on the highway and around town so far.... what pressure were you running?
@@AutoEdits I really fluctuated wildly because I couldn't never find the right PSI for the ride. I went as low as 26 to a consistent 36. But it always felt the same.
Of course, I did buy mine directly after I beat the heck out of the suspension on the Rubicon trail... so I probably should blame some of that rough ride on my worn out suspension. 😂😂😂
Interesting. I have a little over 100 miles on it since yesterday and the 30 (cold) felt really good... I'm going down to 28 cold and will run some miles there but it already is amazingly good in the on road department.
What size wheels 17x9?
They are 17x9.5 with -18 offset 4.5" backspace
What size lift u running?
czcams.com/video/VCA3rd4dhIE/video.html 4.5"
What is the name of the tire tool
That one is called a bead buster and is expensive... I found this one on amazon www.amazon.com/shop/autoedits/list/3V59WNMGIVSC0?ref_=aip_sf_list_spv_ofs_mixed_d
Why didn't you go 38/13.50?
BFG Doesn't make that size.
@@AutoEdits Oh. Didn't know that. Love the videos!!!
Tahoe is sad it’s being used to get the Jeep new shoes.
Not sad at all... Tahoe is doing Tahoe things.
First 😎
Nailed it!
Dangit!!!
Beat me to it.
Literally minute away... still awesome!
@@AutoEdits Also I like the new intro music.
You leveled off a worn tire, full tread would have added a lot more and made the bfg look much shorter.....
How much?
BFG's just run so small for size.
Historically true and I was pleasantly surprised by the end result of this setup. The 13.5 width really makes a different.
it sucks you couldnt find 38s
I was a little disappointed at first but now I'm looking forward to dialing this setup in. With these tires, I'll be able to "send it" a little harder on some obstacles.
You are going to get some awesome fuel economy with such small tires…😂😂😂😂
🫣🤣
You don’t mount tires on a Jeep Wrangler!!! You mount tires on a wheel! Geez 🤣
and where do those mount... on the Jeep!
@@AutoEdits the tire connects to the wheel bone, the wheel bone connects to the….Jeep bone
