Stuffing 37" BFG Tires on a Stock Jeep Wrangler JKU - NO LIFT!

In this video you will see the struggles as I try to get a set of 37" BF Goodrich Mud Terrain KM2 tires to fit on a 2013 Jeep Wrangler Unlimited Rubicon or JKU.
The idea behind such an odd approach to upgrading an off road rig is to start at the foundation and work my way up. I want to keep the center of gravity on the vehicle as low as possible and the main focus of the build is to fit the awesome 37 inch BFG KM2's. Those have been my favorite tires for as long as I can remember and are one of the most "Go To" tires in the off road industry.
So, with a set of G2 1.5" spacers, I get the Jeep on jack stands, pull the old rims and tires off, have the 37's mounted up and commit to drive the Jeep at the end of the day!
The biggest problem happens at the rear of the vehicle. The rocker panel guard is too long and must be removed and modified before it can be reinstalled. Then the bottom of the body at the leading edge of the rear wheel well needs to be trimmed, sealed and spray painted. I show the basic steps I took to accomplish this task.
So the Jeep now sits on the 37" Mud Terrain tires but there is lots to do. The fenders will need to get modified for more clearance and the rear tire mount will have to be upgraded as well to handle the much larger tire.
It was a great one day project and I'm thrilled to have it done. Next up will be G2 gears and chromoly axle upgrades. Then fenders, rear bumper and some off roading of course!

I literally laughed out loud when you said "well! we're committed to these so that comes off" pointing at the rocker panel. HILARIOUS! Love your dedication. Just purchased a '10 wrangler (4 door) so trying to get some pointers on modifying. *subscribed*
Do you think a 2 inch lift would make it possible without cutting the frame?
" I grossly underestimated this job.. " Couldn't tell you how many times my wife has heard that line when i spend nine hours in the garage on her day off working on the jeep lol
I just bought my own first Jeep, and a set of tires from a Rubicon that I just put on, taking street tires, 31 inchers off, and 33 incher all terrain on. I expect to do quite a bit to it in the next year, just watching to see what is possible, those 37's look great and I admire your attitude. I've built custom motorcycles for fifty years and custom cars and trucks, doing the welding and metal fabrication in concert with others, doing wiring and mechanical work so watching this was a treat. Thanks, enjoy!
great video. I was actually impressed that each tire was only 28lb more. Makes me think I might change my 35's to 37's when they wear out.
Makes me think the opposite. Feel like 35s are the sweet spot. No modifications to the body, cheaper, less strain and wear and tear on the gears and transmission, can even use my Rubicon wheels, etc.
28 pounds is a huge difference when we’re talking about unsprung rolling weight. Not the same as just adding 100lbs in the passenger seat.
Not insinuating that’s what you think
Holy crappers.... I thought this sort of stuff only happens to me...lol....a five-minute job turns into something epic, love your work.
Thanks!
It's a damn shame the Jeep website doesn't have the option to get bigger tires. Glad you made this video.
Thanks!!!!
I’m always thankful for everyone of your videos and that you actually do it as anyone else who isn’t rich would! Perfect man.
Thanks so much!
You do the best job for a back yard custom builder, you take the time and patience to do it right :-)
Great video, different from others. Very interesting stages of preparation.Great dog participation and the mandatory Beer Run!Pleasure to watch.
That is a really nice comment and appreciated so much! I'm thankful for friends like you here on the you tube!
Jeep Wrangler and classic Mustang, you got good taste.
Why thank you!
Can I have your rims and tires?
Only if it’s a fastback. :)
Im buying both this summer another mustang and wrangler
I am in the process of doing this same thing to my 2016 Rubicon Unlimited. I bought the Metalcloak overline fenders and a teraflex 1.5" leveling kit with 37" Nitto trail grapplers. I will be doing the installation directly following Christmas. Thanks for the good videos!
Marine660 Don't forget to get the bump stop extenders front and back!!!
I like seeing you using "LOCTITE THREAD LOCKER" So many don't and they check the outer lugs and never the inside. I'll be following you in the future.
Great video! Way to commit to those 37s 😃. I loved the ending... Up next....lol. Should have been at least a 3-4" lift. Look forward to seeing what comes next. Good luck
I'll never get "tire"d of watching this series. ;) Can't wait for the next installment!
+socksandtea Well all right!!! I hope to get another one done soon...thanks for watching and saying hey!
I see what you did up there...lol
Just found you in the last couple of days and really enjoying the quality of the build. You have a great insight and great tips. Thanks
Howdy and Welcome to the channel!!! Thanks!
Bro. Great video man. Easy to understand and comprehend for people who even want to know about Jeep stuff. And thank you for your time. This video took a long time.
Thanks so much for appreciating the work that goes into this!
"that got way bigger than I thought it was going to get" haha. that's what she said.
LOL!
Great video and amazing looking rubber!
Nice to see you here, I follow you in Instagram!
Thanks for making this video. Definitely ended up being a whole day project
I had this neighbor when I was a kid that was really smart but not too bright when it came to everyday things. He was very rich and drove a very nice car but you would watch him every Saturday morning try to cut the grass with a sweeper or perhaps with the push lawn mower without starting it. Every once in a while he would lay out elaborate decorations for every holiday is back yard even though it was not even close to being that holiday, and the only people who could see them were his backyard neighbors.
He was very smart though, he build test planes for N.A.S.A. in his youth and in his elder years built us kids planes made out of straws and paper and glue. You remind me of him you crazy bastard.
You really got me with this one... read the whole thing wondering how bad this might get and then got a genuine laugh out loud at the end! Thanks so much for watching and giving me a bit of entertainment!
I also have one of those, a wife, that is. I can relate!
LOL!
That dog is amazing.
You can tell a lot about a person by the way his/her dog behaves.
I did the same as you, and stuffed 35" tires under my JKU Rubicon with no lift. I had to cut the stock rocker panels, hammer the pinch seams, run spacers and aftermarket fender flares. It has since then been lifted but I think it was a good way to build it.
Awesome! I wanted to keep the stock rims when I go to lift my Jeep, but didn't know for sure if it were possible. Now I know - Thanks!
+GeneralSpookX Cool! Thanks for checking it out and glad to help!
Jeep that rubs like a stanced civic LOL. Great video :)
+yliaDenaLtsaF HAHA! Thanks!!!
I'm with u brother...you are not alone
Just bought my wrangler unlimited jk with came with 33's but all I can think about is k=getting bigger tires on there without having to spend 4-6k on a lift and install plus the $1500 + for the tires.
Thanks for the inspiration and confirming it's ok to do it however we want too
Exactly!!!! Thanks!
the vehicle is way more capable with 33" tires, period. You get way more unsprung weight which is equal to a 4x load. Most are about 30lbs swap, so 4 of those is 120lbs, which is the same as too fat people riding in the back (480lbs). It is REALLY DUMB except for the looks, which is why this wussy did it
U can get 4" old man emu suspension lift kit for about 2k..its not a big problem i thought.
Awesome! I have a 6” lift on my 03 tj x-sport. It’s sitting on 37 super swampers, I love em!
Right on!
This was a highly enjoyable video. I'm in a restaurant having lemon sour cream pie watching this on my guys phone. I bet I'm the only girl in this place watching a jeep build video 😎👌🇺🇸
I love those 37s, had no idea they weigh in at 100lbs each!
I'll most roll on 35s this year.
One step at a time. Now to find the rest of your build *subbed*
Great job so far!
🐾🐺 love your pup, he's a big help ☺
Thanks so much! I'm so happy to have you here!
I'm eating Cheetos and I approve of this modification.
Lol when you flex... say goodbye to those fenders.
I said goodbye to them before that!
This video is so awesome, I love how you just figure it out on the fly. Thanks!
+Alex Manos Thank you! It's just the way I work... wingin' it.
You are one hell of a mechanic, love the Jeep, keep it up brother
Thanks very much! I'll try!
I’d rather watch this than Netflix great videos!!
Thanks! If you get a moment... watch one of my road trip videos... I like doing them!
4.88s will definitely get that power back with those big meats. Great video!
+JEEPARMY USA Thanks a bunch! I went back and forth for a while on whether to do that upgrade right away and what ratio. Glad to hear the 4.88 is a good way to go...I have soooooo much to learn!
I'm going 5.38s in my 06 LJ... Yikes
I love the BFG'S, had a top run out of the KO'S and now the KO2'S
Your jeep looks good....REAL GOOD w/its new tires !
Thanks!
this is a surprisingly high quality video for such a "small" channel. keep it up
+MrJewripper Much appreciated! I'm just doing my thing and am thankful a couple people on the you tubes enjoy it!
+autoedit hahaha only if you uploaded more often
+MrJewripper I'm trying!
+autoedit hahaha
good tires, good job
Thanks!
The new 37's look awesome Jason. I can't wait for the next video and the new axles. -Drew
+Supradrew™ Thanks Drew!
I have to say that my absolute favorite part of the video was when you said, "I grossly underestimated this job." To hear my wife tell it, I actually need a shirt with that printed on the back... What a fun video and great production value!
Thanks so much!
Nice video, however I would suggest never putting anti seize on lugs or studs, it will affect your torque you put on the wheels.
12:00 thats what she said 🤘🏾
LOL
doing the same thing on my jeep! pretty stoked to see they fit on stock. I have a friend who recommended just getting the 2.5"metalcloak springs to give the lift you need to give you a cheap boost up.
+cody mccracken Hmmmm. I may try that budget lift thing! Thanks dude!
Thanks! It give me hope for my 2011 Rubicon~
That thing is going to rub like crazy
You got that right!
As soon as he said lift with your back and not your knees I approved his video. Good joke my friend, I like telling my wife and kids the same joke.
Glad to hear from another person of "refined" comedy tastes... lol
This was a 100% quality video. Keep up the good work. Solid stuff.
+Mark Franklin Well thank you very much!
They look very cool lift kit and sorted 👍🇬🇧
white letters out ftw! nice video!
+KyleSVT HAHA! YUP. Thanks!
+autoedit should have went black wall instead of white but nice jeep
+austin mills should of went Natty Ice instead of Tecate but nice tires
This is the first video I've watch and love it! Great quality production and you have an awesome personality! Looking forward to seeing your future Jeep videos! Maybe we can collaborate in the future! Also what do you use to capture the side of the Jeep while driving? Gopro and suction mount? #jeepwave
+AdventureDex Thanks Dex! Yeah, I'm fairly new to this world but really love this stuff so far. Let's see if we can catch up on the trail sometime!
Yeah, i was also taken with the production quality. Nice framing and dynamic exposure range. And sure, I like jeeps too.
The single scariest thing in the vid was the choice to use your wife's scale. You're truly a mad man! I'm hooked. Good luck on the build!
Eh, I've personally put way more weight on one of those than the mounted 37's did, so long as he didn't drop something metal on them, he was fine.
It dangerous, not because of weight, but because i know what happens when i break my wife's stuff.
+MrRayMac1963 Eh, you'd have to get all butterfingers and drop that scale or drop something on it to break it.
nice video.. most of all great patience men hats off to you.
Yeah buddy TECATE BEER that was worth it after all your hard work.🍻 CHEERS
looks cool for sure i like, but man I just don't approve of the spacers they definitly do damage
Awesome video thanks for the visual. It's a pain in the ass to get any info from forums when you ask a question and everyone replies with short answers...thanks again, subscribing!
+rogerst23 It's awesome to hear from someone like you and Welcome! I was hoping to share just an average dudes experience with this stuff and how to deal with the challenges.
This reminded me of a $400 1980 bronco I got with no lift and 35's when I was young. Lots of fun, but lots of rubbing. At least you have plans for gears and a lift.
dam that looks great, but gotta get a lift
Did it!

Hugh Mungus makes a guest appearance at 3:21
You seem like the cool neighbor with all the tools / toys. Good job buddy 👍🏻
Awesome video! I stuffed 35s under my jk before budget boost and flat flares ..bottomed out alot!
+Robert Bellamy Yeah, but we have to do it just to look how cool it is until the next upgrade!
If the tyre is bashing the car going out of the driveway then what would happen on a bigger off road bump?
+Onoff314 Probably rip the front fenders clean off. Stay tuned, I'm taking it out in the hills soon!
actually it probably rub them and cause little to know damage..
Know you are wrong about that. Know way it gets by without damage. I should No, because there's Know way to No. LoL
Just wondering? What type of exhaust are you running on your jeep?
+fozicle28 Flowmaster American Thunder for the Jeep
+autoedit figured it out after watching all of your videos! Can't wait to get one like it or similar!! On a tight budget because I'm a college student lol
fozicle28 how much is the flowmaster ?
Great video series. Love the build!
fantastic job, love watching your videos, first time jeep owner. ordered my jeep rubicon recon a couple weeks ago. I ordered the two door and not the four door. i hope i made the right choice. i have nobody to ride in the back any more.
mark bryner lonner?
no just retired military and the kids are grown and moved to irvin california. I'm here in pittsburgh.
Have a 2019 Mustang GT and now trying to figure out how to get a Wrangler. lol
This Jeep changed everything!
Crazy lol, i have a 16 mustang and trying to buy a wrangler at the end of the year
why the hell would you put 37's on stock suspension
Because some people say Fuck it
Because most don't take them off road. If they did, the 37's would hit and rip the flares off, and the jeep would have zero articulation.
Not to mention the short lifespan of the dana 30 and drivetrain.
its actually a dana 44
jeremy greiner the Rubicon gets Dana 44 diffs front and rear
Because he’s a fucking idiot
LOL, I'm diggin' the duct tape mod to the taillight on the Ram...
i know all this info but i watched the entire thing, that as good a TU as u can get, nice fun to watch vid, not gonna go this big with my new JL but I had fun putting some new tires on mine the new ruby's come with some nice big space & great suspension, I carbon fiber-ed my dash, hood vents & windshield rake, powder coated my rims custom deep burgundy & white trim, (saved cash on new rims) & did the plastic roof top deep burgundy, so hard to come up with a color to go with the pumk'n O,
Think you left out one important step. Lift kit
fuck that !!! all that work just to see what 37's look like ...... one step at a time man.gear ratios , rubbing ect, recalibrating for gas milage ect....ugh ....fuck that
Steve Perez but that's what we like about it!
Whaoooo is big 37” 👍👍👍 beautiful work !!😃😃😃😃
First of all... Well done on your cameras, mics, camera positioning & editing! Also, I enjoyed the subject & experiment. Thanks for such a good video. I look forward to more.
+Jamie Fialkowski Hey Thanks so much for the encouraging words! I got slammed with work the last couple of weeks but did get fenders for it and will try to get that done next weekend...and then back to the dirt!
Well.....no flex possible.
Oh yeah, watch this video...
czcams.com/video/1G_gN9LmLHI/video.html
+autoedit In that trim you had no flex. I do as well have metalcloak front fenders that do add clearence and I use every but of it and my rear body rubs barely but only at full full flex which is rare that anytrail can get that from me.
White letters out all day ^^v
Yup!
Excellent production. Good and honest data. Kudos to you sir.
+Stephane Corriveau Thank you!
I'm glad you fit the tires. I hope there are no bumps where you go offroading.
why would you damage and cut up your Jeep for something stupid like this? if you know you were going to cut it up, why not quit and get the suspension?
Easy, I knew the cuts and modifications I was making would still help gain maximum suspension articulation even when the lift kit was installed. Check back in a few weeks and I'll show you... I have a 3.5 inch kit coming.
If you have to ask such a question, you don't get it.
I'm impressed by all the skills you have: I'm one of those artistic types where my masculinity is defined by my good salary which allows me to pay someone to do what you can do on your own( chuckle). You did a great job
Thanks....I think...lol
That comment tho hahahahah great job on the jeep though man
tonepaw I have no money, and no ability. I have skill. I'm just disabled, so can't do things on my own. It works out though because I'm too poor to get it done, or buy stuff to do it myself. Yay me! So I live vicariously through CZcams.
Dude I am 21 and like white letters out on my BFGs. Good on you. Loved the video.
Nice tires on your pick up truck those mickey Thompson OMG THOSE ARE MY TIRES
37s on stock suspension? you might be a mall crawler about as good as an avalanche on 22 inch rims
and now it's slow as shit
no it won't be slower it will just be really sluggish
lol
Peter Cooney because race Jeep?
Joshua Barton because merging onto a highway in a reasonable amount of time would be nice.
Peter Cooney I'm on 35s with 3.73 and merge on highway is no big deal.. If anything I'm just a tad slower off the line.. All good to me..
ha mine are white letter out too! not quite that big just 305/70 km2. loving it!
+Brixx Awesome, thanks so much!
Honestly this is the best Jeep account on CZcams.
Dang, that's awesome to hear!
Thank you!
112 lbs difference bye-bye gas mileage LOL
2 things
1: It's a jeep. It doesn't know the meaning of "Gas Mileage"
2: 112 lbs is the equivalent of riding with a 6th grader.
I actually enjoyed watching. Thanks
you just earned a sub man. keep up the good work!
Love it man don't listen to all these negative comments you have to start somewhere and at least you have some nice tires. I wish I had a set of those bad boys. Happy jeepin brother
Awesome video! Thanks for sharing...
That looks awesome with factory rim.
Funny, because in europe black outer is normal and yet on Jeeps, 4x4's and SUV's we love white outer lettering.
Great video and a cute dog.
LOL... Thanks for commenting!!!
Love the jeep and the mustang. I have a 2013 jeep and a 1973 mustang
Haha I really enjoyed this video. I can’t believe how he cut and fix the Jeep for can put the back tire 😂😂
That work truck sounds beautiful
The BFG's look good 😎
They look amazing!
Thanks!
just got my jeep cool video thanks for the ideas man now it's beer time
Yeah buddy!
This video is amazing! Why are you not more popular? subbed for sure!
+OffRoadKingdom WooHOO! Thanks for the kind word and welcome!!!!!
you saved me a huge amount of headaches... thanks...!
Glad to hear that! Thank you for checking it out!
Cool video, now following your build. Those rear pinch seams were already cut on my 2013, so at some point Chrysler started doing that right at the factory. I did 2.5" lift and 315 (35") Duratracs all at once.
+VortexArcade Thanks! Which lift did you go with? I'm looking now for something...
+autoedit I went with a Teraflex, their kits include all the brake line relocation brackets and stuff some of the less expensive kits omit. I also had the standard Sport wheels, so I went with Procomp 7036 wheels. I would have considered spacers if I had the nicer Rubicon wheels you have!
