- Here is my review of the new Firestone Destination X/T All-Terrain Truck Tires. I've had them on my truck for about 8 months and I've been very happy with their performance so far. I hope to do an updated review in the future to let you guys know how they hold up. If you have any question that I didn't answer in the review, please let me know in the comment section below.

The most underrated tyre on the market

I've them on a 2016 F250. Great traction all around. Loose dirt/sand and snow is where you really see the performance of this tire. Tow a 7,500k pound RV and have no issues with ride or wear. They only issue is loss of fuel economy. I have lost 1 to 1.5 mpg.

@captainjoesanglingadventur4894 You won't regret ìt. I have put a lot more miles towing and gone in some questionable terrain since my initial comment, and the tires continue to perform without any issue.
We had the same issue with BF Goodrich KO2's on three different trucks at work, we couldn't get much more than 20k to 26k miles out of them on Ford super duty trucks with KUV utility bodies driving approximately 80% on road, and 20% off. I had the XT's out on my work truck last fall, and have had no regrets. One co-worker chose the XT's recently based on my experience and recommendation to him, the other went back to the KO2's. The guy who also went with the XT's loves them as well.
I will be putting a set on my k2500 suburban coming this fall.
I absolutely love the Firestone XT's so far after roughly 8 months and 12k miles.
Same issues with BFG’s. Found out tires were out of round. Did a warranty claim two times after the original purchase. All four tires on all three sets were out of round, and BFG refused to offer me a refund. Glad to hear you like these. I’ve been eying them for a while now.
Got a set of these for my tundra for $800 275/75/18, can't wait to get them on. Made in Canada too!

These tires are the lightest All Terrain Tires out there as well. In my size 275/70r18 they weigh 49lbs! The Falken Wildpeaks weigh 61lbs and the k02’s weigh 57lbs.
Being a bit lighter will help with Engine Performance and MPG’s.
From all the research I’ve done on the tire it’s still plenty strong enough for off road use. Haven’t read any reviews or comments on blow outs.
What about puncture resistance? Some tires have a 2 ply sidewall (these) while some have a 3 ply sidewall for extra toughness as well as stability for towing. But weight definitely affects mpg so everything is a tradeoff. If I can get away with a lighter tire I will definitely do so.
I just ordered a set after seeing them in person. Great looking tread. Rubber feels decent. Wanted Pirelli Scorpions but no one has any. Then General ATX but no one has them either. Firestone AT2 were a top three no matter what and I assume these are an upgrade all around.
Everything else at the same price only have 2 ply sides. These have 8, I believe. I bought the lifetime alignment deal and will have the shop rotate and align them with oil changes. My Ram will lose alignment and balance whenever it gets in a bad mood so that’s a great option from Firestone.
The Destination AT2 are fantastic and highly rated. In person comparison tells me the XT is incredible.
You’re confusing sidewall plies with tread plies.
Hey Scott, as an update, I now have a set of these XTs as well on my 2500HD. Your review was helpful. I find them quieter than expected and how they cushion the road imperfections better than my A/Season Michelin Defender LTX MS tires and maybe 10-15% louder than the Michelin’s.best regards from Alberta.
These sound like great tires. Maybe not as tough as a heavier tire but I don't usually have trouble with sidewall punctures.
@@jamesnm21 heavy? Well these are 10-ply tires. Reading a review from a Purchaser of fleet trucks for a Mining company, he mentioned how these have been more durable than other ATs he’s purchased (BF, Continental, Cooper, Goodyear, Falken, General, Toyo, Yoko’s,). I’m sure some mentioned are excellent as well.
@@nhlcfl7733 right. This tire is very light compared to other 10 ply tires is what I meant. Great to hear it's proving to be just as tough as the other options. It only weighs 45lbs in my size which is 3 lbs lighter than the next lightest one I've found in this category and most are 5-7 lbs heavier.
Thanks for your review Scott. I’m looking to upgrade to an AT tire and have read many good things about these. Your review adds to it. I too have a white Chev 2500HD Z71 (LT DoubleCab); nice trucks and love the 6.6L gas engine, getting between 14-15.5L/100 km, depending. I think I’m going to go with the XTs.
Thanks for the review. Hard to find much real world info on these tires. They are new and I like the way they look. I have a 2019 Silverado HD Duramax with 35 12.5r20’s so that size will fit on a leveled truck. I have zero rubbing.
Tires I have are Cooper ST Max. These have been good tires and wear well but I’m looking for something more road friendly next time around. Thanks for giving us a look at these.

@@ModernPrairieHomestead absolutely, I was a Firestone m/t guy for a long time due to having a friend working for them, he changed jobs and then I tried Toyo m/t and got almost 50k out of them on my L5P and it definitely gets used hard. Got another set of Toyos and second set of wheels I put on a set of maxxis razr mt which have been stellar thus far as well. I don't take chances with all terrains and don't have time fo rgetting stuck around the farm.
Thanks for the review. Sounds like they're good all around and handle towing fine which is everything I need. I was wanting the cooper rugged treks which are in between an AT and an MT but alas they don't offer a 16 inch E rated version so I may go with these instead.
1:58 Glad to hear you tow with these tires. I'm still looking for the best Heavy Duty truck tires for towing and longevity.
Then get highway tread tires.
Thanks for the good review. I have been looking to upgrade to the same tire and size but have not found many reviews. I have the same stock tires you had and have never been so unconfident driving a truck in the winter. Also had the same experience with the BFG, great in the snow but fast wearing. I will be purchasing the XTs this week.

@@ModernPrairieHomestead I picked up the tires, getting them installed Monday. Looking forward to see how they handle the snow. Time will tell as far as even wear and how many kms they last.
Just bought these and at the tire shop saw and the toyo at3 next to mine and toyos side walls looked better in person. As far as the little sipe cuts, they are all the way down to the bottom on the atx where as the Toyos had them to about half ways deep. So I think better rain performance will be provided through out the life of the atx vs the at3. For looks I would go for the toyo. Mtc.
What kind of vehicle did you put them on and how are they performing?
Great review! Looking for my Dodge passenger Van b3500 to drive cross country boondocking in the US. Staying away fro snow, but I hope it’s great for highways and dirt roads with gravel

@@ElectricDanielBoone My A/Ts are still useable so I have not put new tires on yet. I haven’t checked with Firestone yet but by my research they don’t make a stock size for my Trailhawk.
@@autumnembers777 I put 265/65R17 on my Trailhawk, they barely fit but they do, they just barely scrape the plastic on the wheel wells and that is not a problem, I am getting these for my little buddy with 204,000 miles now. I drive offroad in NM and AZ, White Mountains AZ Big Lake Overlook at 9,300'. Stock ATs were too wussy.

I got about 90,000km out of these tires with 1/4 tread life still remaining. I just replaced them with Toyo AT3's. Only reason was i was in a bit of a pinch before a long drive across the country again and needed same day tires in this specific size. The firestones unfortunately weren't available.
Overall great tire and very much enjoyed them!

Hey thanks for the review - I just bought a set of 35’s for 19 ram - had the nitro exo grapplers loved them but can’t get the size I want anymore - was going to get the Maxxis which look badass but suppoosefly they aren’t accurate in their height measurements - curious with the destination xt - will see on Wednesday when they go on

I think I'll be ordering a set as well. Have some other firestone's on a 2wd f150 that have been great all year long even as a more standard road tire.

Those tires really grabbed my interest at first, but it is absolutely the lightest tire in its class. If you compare them in similar size & weight ratings, they’re actually more comparable in weight to all season tires like SRA’s. The tread looks great, but not sure how “heavy duty” and durable they can be if they’re the lightest on the market. TireRack told me in an email they typically don’t recommend them for that reason. I really like the way they look, though- a nice tread and sidewall without the bro-dozer look.
I’ve also got the factory 20” SRA’s on my 2500HD, and hate how tame they are, but don’t think they’re really that bad. I’ve gone from Ohio to the U.P. & back multiple times, as well as one trip from Ohio out to West Yellowstone & back.
I’m going to upsize from the factory 265/60R20’s on mine to the 275/65R20’s as well. Looks just about right on our trucks. By the way; you can level the front end the same way on HD’s without the snowplow prep package.
Thank you for such a detailed comment. I am surprised to hear your local shop did not recommend them because they think they are a “light tire”. I understand that this category of truck is technically a light truck category. But the Firestone X/T is still a Load Range E tire rated for 3750lbs at 80PSI just like the Wrangler Duratrac or Bridgestone K02. The stock Wrangler SR-A is only rated for 3195lbs. So regardless what tire you choose it is definitely an upgrade. I am interested in what else I might be overlooking that would make them lighter duty than the competition, as I cant find any specifications where they don’t either meet or exceed the competition.
If we are talking about the individual weight of the tire itself the Firestone in this size weight in at 52lbs. I believe the K02 in the same size is 58lbs and I couldn’t find the Duratrac tire weight. Honestly in my opinion if the tire is rated Load Range E with specs comparable to the others. If the tire is slightly lighter its only going to help with fuel economy.
With regards to the Wrangler SR-A, I thought they were a decent performing tire until my first winter with them. I thought the ride was decent and the traction in rain was alright, but on snow and ice they were downright terrible. At least in the conditions I was experiencing in Canada.
As for the HD Silverados front end leveling. You are totally correct that you can level any truck with torsion bars by cranking up the keys. But it is my understanding (And I could be wrong) but trucks equipped with the snowplough prep package have a wider range of front-end adjustability.

I understand and agree that they carry the same load ratings in any given size and load index. However; by your logic, a highway-oriented tire should be just as strong as an all terrain, hybrid, or mud terrain tire as long as it carries the same ratings no matter the actual weight of the tire- and I don’t buy that. If a tire that is marketed as a durable, heavy duty, off road worthy all-terrain solution, why would it weigh less than a mall-terrain street tire and not more comparable to others in its class? That tells me there’s less material where it counts.
@@Icutmetal I hear you, and I agree with what your saying for the most part. If something is built lighter it usually means that its made with less material. However having said that, we all know carbon fiber is lighter than steel and yet twice as stiff. I'm not suggesting that Firestone has invented some new material for these tires. But I know that they do a lot of experimenting with different rubber compounds and materials to strengthen the tire such as Kevlar that Goodyear uses. So to say that its an inferior tire because its lighter might be a stretch, but regardless its a valid concern.
Tires in the US / Canada have some pretty strict standards to pass to be allowed on the roads. I cant imagine that by being the lightest in its class really means that Its going to perform that much worst and somehow be unsafe. But time will tell and I'll definitely keep you posted on how they perform over time both good and bad, we'll soon find out!
Curious though, what are you currently running and how do you like them?
Canadian Outdoorsman Still have the original SR-A mall-terrains on my ‘18 All Terrain HD. I wish our trucks came with something halfway meaty from the factory, but I’ve been impressed with them so far. About 25,000mi on my truck now with very little wear. They did better than I expected on my last sled trip out West thru some pretty nasty conditions.
That being said, I’ve had great luck with the previous generation Destination MT tires on a past F150, so I’ve got nothing against Firestone tires. I really like the look of these; they seem like a function over form sort of tire. I’m also really interested in the Grabber ATX.

I have 2018 Power Wagon and will probably go with these tires in 315 70 17 when it’s time to replace my tires. I did have Firestone MT2 on my last Jeep and I really loved those tires. I’m torn between the XT and the MT.

@@ModernPrairieHomestead I think the Firestone MT2 is an excellent tire but I live in Arizona and the trails are mostly dry fire roads. Not much mud here though. I think the XT will probably be better in the snow.

The one thing I see a lot of the AT tires struggling with is wet road traction. How have these tires been for you?
I need a new set of tires and most of my driving is road. However we do get a bit of snow in the winter, and I occasionally drive on some dirt roads. So while I don’t “need” an AT tire, it seems like a good all around choice for a truck compared to a standard all season.
What did you go with? These seem like a great choice overall. Lightweight, good winter grip and all-surface traction and decent tread life. Wet traction is most important for stopping, I doubt you're going to fly off the road even if they don't score super high in wet road performance. Hydroplaning would be the only thing he didn't talk about that would have been nice to get feedback on. We have some firestone's on another vehicle and they have been great all around tires even though they're more of a standard road tire.
@@jamesnm21 I’m curious too. I just bought a used 2015 Jeep Wrangler rubicon and the dealer just put on a new set of these. I can so far say they are fairly quiet on road, it’s a Jeep so loud anyways and maybe can’t hear them for that reason, they seem great on a snowy road. Not the best in glare ice but my only comparison is a Subaru Outback with Blizzak snow tires so not really a fair comparison. Also drove in 8-10 inches of heavy fresh snow and they spun a bit more than I thought they would but there might have been some icy pavement underneath. Seemed like I was not digging down to the pavement but I couldn’t tell for sure. Like I said they did ok on a snowy road so I would think the snow grip should be good.
What about the road noise at mid range speeds 45 mph and interstate speeds 75 mph and higher?

I'm curious how the tires are doing after 2 years for you. I'll be in the market shortly for a new set of All-Terrains and wanted to go with what I have now, however they've been on backorder for months now and the alternative size in them is not 3-Peak Snowflake rated. I'm intrigued by the X/Ts.
So do you have a follow up?...it's been over 1.5 years and we are curious to know if you still love them (or at least I am). Thinking about getting the same rubber for my 2019 2500HD in the same exact size non-the-less. I currently have 275/65-20 Michelin Defenders and they just aren't aggressive enough.

Very little road noise. I enjoyed these tires very much and just replaced them. 90,000km on them and still about 1/4 tread remaining.

Still very happy with them! No noise or ware issues yet, and I have about 40KM on them now.

Not at all! I haven't noticed a big noise difference from the stock wheels. Having said that the new chevy's have a pretty quiet cab in general.
How are the tires since this review? I just ordered 235/80R17's for my 3500 dually.
I am looking at firestone xt OR the dick cepek trail country exp. Here in Minnesota....the trail exp look awesome on trucks and seems better for off road but doesn't have the three peak snow rating
Yeah for me I really needed the three peak snow rating. Insurance would burry me without it!

Tell me more about being able to crank the torsion keys 1 1/2 inches on a snow plow prepped 2500HD
It’s the same process as a non plow-prep GM truck.
Do you think the 275/65 R20 will fit without cranking keys?

I have a 2017 gmc Sierra, pretty much the same truck but I have factory mud flaps. Do you think I would be able to run the 275/65/20 without them rubbing? Kind of hard to tell from your video how much room is left. Any input would be appreciated.

Good review, I have these in 32s on a R51 pathfinder: czcams.com/video/GPrh8fUhbL0/video.html and I can echo everything you say, I have been recommending them to everyone. They are super lightweight compared to KO2 or duratracs, they wear down absolutely amazing, 3 peak snow rating, I don't even hear them on the highway and they are great offroading at least in mud/dirt/rocks. This will be my first winter with them and I'm looking forward to it.
How are they holding up, ride quality, noise, and towing results (do they sway with the load on - side to side)? Question for you, what tire pressure are you running, in your video it looks like they are over inflated... 07:35 you will notice that the dirt doesn't go to the edge of the tread pattern. Wondering if it's just how it turned our or what.
Have 2014 2500hd duramax, loaded sways been playing with air pressure 65psi in front 70 in rear it's a little better. The old set of firestone transforce a/t had 80psi all the way around unload or loaded it was stable, going to run these X/Ts hope it gets better as they ware

I am going to put some on my dually this week and I will do a video of how they look and drive. I can't find anyone having them on a dually yet on youtube.
