Ukrainians generally love music and to sing, therefore typically there is a large choice of performers for contests like Eurovision. Actually, a lot of great bands, e.g. Hardkiss, came in second in pre selection rounds, and I always thought, that Ukraine could have had more wins if these rounds would play out differently.

I agree. In 2017 Tayanna should have won with her song I Love You. ILLARIA would be fantastic in 2018 with Syla. Max Barskyh would be great in 2012 with Dance

The song from 2005 was the unofficial anthem and fight song for the Ukrainian Orange Revolution in 2004. For the ESC the lyrics was changed so all political references was removed.

Quite a number of underrated gems from Ukraine's first decade other than "Wild Dances", "Shady Lady", "Be My Valentine", "Dancing Lasha Tumbai" and "Show Me Your Love". But what's certain is that Ukraine never sends the same song twice in a row.
    2003
-Underrated. This was quite a very decent entry that deserves more recognition. For a modest debut, Ukraine was only showing 20% of its full power.
    2004
-A good winner I thought. Probably not something that requires constant looped intervals on your music player but it definitely helped cement the wave of ethno-pop that came to dominate the next few years (alongside the increasing presence of novelties).
    2005
-Severely underrated given how much of a post-revolution theme song this entry was and what it means to Ukrainians. However, how it was selected is a different story. A convoluted national selection that lasted multiple weeks, if not months, and the song that became their entry was one of the wildcards that had a pass to the national final. It wasn't that Ukraine wanted to not win via this entry, it's just that, the rest of Europe simply didn't get it. And that's sad.
    2006
-The start of the Ukrainian streak of iconic divas.
    2007
-This is quite interesting, from the clear novelty song that it didn't even bother hiding to the fact that it made such a huge impression to a lot of people within and outside the bubble, it truly says a lot.
    2008
-Probably the only Kirkorov-produced song that I like.
    2009
    -Whoagh.

    My top 7:
    1) 2008: Ani Loraki should have won! Shady Lady is Ukraine's best ever entry and way better than both Wild Dances and 1944!
    2) 2007
    3) 2006
    4) 2004
    5) 2009

Oof, the disrespect to Razom Nas Bahato (2005). Apparently that song was very important to Ukrainian people. More of a message song than a song made to win. (look up what was going on in Ukraine during 2004-2005 to find out why.)

Yes, 2004 was not strong at all but Ukraine won because of many reasons. We didn't have anything like Wild Dances before and even after Ruslana's victory. She was singing and dancing at the same time and she showed a brilliant VOCAL even in the end of her performance. It's still one of the most memorable Eurovision performances ever
