  • @limitedexperience492
    @limitedexperience492 Před 6 lety +12

    1) Ukraine 2007 was a novelty song that got up all the way to 2nd place, just behind Serbia 2007's Molitva. Delightfully enough, Verka also PERFORMED just after Serbia (the two dudes flanking Verka were wearing 18s on their shirts because they were act number 18, while Molitva was act number 17 in that Final ... this event took place literally less than a minute after the emotional end of Serbia's performance, and it can be fun to watch the two clips back to back to re-create that juxtaposition)
    2) The extreme success of Ukraine 2007, as well as the victory of Lordi's Hard Rock Hallelujah in 2006, were a huge factor in the return of The Juries to the scoring process for Eurovision. At this point in time, there was ONLY a popular televote system to determine the winner, and there was an escalating "arms race" of increasingly-zany novelty behavior and increasingly-intense neighbor-voting pervading more and more of the acts, because novelty aspects like Demon-Metal-Group from the Nordic bloc and Silver-Teletubby-Drag-Queen from the Slavic bloc were suddenly consistently topping the contest. Ireland 2008's Irelande Douze Pointe was a deliberately-misspelled, deliberately-trolling novelty-act mock-protest of this trend, while Latvia 2008's Wolves of the Sea was a further continuation of this extreme-novelty-act trend ... both songs saw intensive booing from the audience. The sky-high tensions about acts like Verka and Lordi and those novelty-acts in 2008 led to an even larger jury influence in 2009 and later, eventually giving us the present "Juries Count For Half" system we have now. All of this Jury weighting is there to tamp down the total level of annual novelty-acts to more modest stuff (getting more modest placement) like Moldova's My Lucky Day this year and Romania's Yodel It last year.
    3) Verka Serduchka is the incredibly-campy drag queen persona of the male Ukrainian actor/singer/songwriter Andrei Danilko. If you go back to the intro bit of Dancing Lasha Tumbai, you will see that right under the title-and-singer line, the music composer and the lyricist for the song were both listed as Andrei Danilko. That *entire* performance was pretty much a One-Man Novelty Act, and in that novelty act, Verka is not meant to convincingly pass for an actual biological female. You, the viewer, are supposed to figure out that she has to be a drag queen or something.
    4) The character of Verka is a tacky, sleazy, self-absorbed, drunken lush of a woman (hence the '69' on the back of her jersey, the gigantic silver star on her head, the constant grabbing of her own bosom, and the smacking of her backup singer's butts), who is usually singing about getting drunk and partying. Hence, in this song, after saying (in German) that she doesn't understand English, she loudly tells the audience "Let's Speak DANCE!" and starts to get down.
    5) Above and beyond being a ludicrous roller-coaster of the most upbeat novelty act imaginable, this entire performance is also several different subtle-onion-layers worth of The Most Epic Trolling Ever Allowed Onto The Eurovision Stage:
    a) Verka officially "does not understand English", and also officially "sometimes performs while inebriated", combining to give Verka's performances occasional "drunken slurrings" where she "accidentally on-purpose" mispronounces several the "official" lyrics written by her songwriter/composer alter ego, Andrei Danilko.
    b) An obvious and relatively-innocuous example of this "accidental" mispronunciation giving rise to alternate meaning is in the choruses, where there are multiple quartet-repeats of the written line, "I want to see", followed by either "ah-a" or by the title-line "Lasha Tumbai". Verka repeatedly shifts the emphasis and pacing and articulation of those assorted "I want to see" lines, so that different bits will sound like "I want you, see?" and "I want, you see ..." and "I want to see". So far, so fair, just a quirky trick of performance to give added value on repeat listening.
    c) "According to Verka", the only lyric she sings over and over in the chorus and the title of the song is "Lasha Tumbai", which is supposed to be a Mongolian phrase meaning "to churn butter", being used in an erotic, suggestive manner. In actual reality, "Lasha Tumbai" is a nonsense phrase with no actual meaning in Mongolian or in any other language ... but when Verka "drunkenly slurs" the phrase now and again, while waving to the audience, the whole line can now-and-again sound exactly like "I want, you see (waves) Russia Goodbye" or "I want to see ... Russia Goodbye". Entirely accidental, of course!
    d) For an even Deeper Cut, there is an "improvisational" call-out to the live audience in the stadium in Helsinki, Finland. Officially, Verka calls out to the audience "Helsinki! Руки, Руки! ну ну ну!", which would officially be pronounced "Ruki Ruki! Nu nu nu!" and which would officially be a cheer line meaning roughly "Hands hands!" (as in "get your hands up!") and "Well well well!" or "Yeah yeah yeah!". But when Verka "drunkenly slurs" the repeat of 'Руки' and cuts each 'ну' short, it can sound a lot like "Ruski! Ruski! No! No! No!" ... Entirely accidental, of course! You'd have to be paranoid to think Verka did that on purpose!
The entire live performance is, quite simply, a grade-A-quality novelty act that is also probably the most astoundingly-brazen open trolling of Russia ever to air on a nationwide live broadcast INSIDE Russia, while having 100% official deniability. (As a side effect, this performance killed many aspects of Danilko's touring career inside Russia, afterward.)

A lot of people in Ukraine were not supporting Verka and her song! It caused protests and they even burned her scarecrow on the Majdan Square. It were the times with no national selection. When she was at the airport, she said that not once, only few people were there for her, there was nobody else, no fans, nothing! It was because Verka represent country and everyone would think everyone in Ukraine is like that, or at least a lot of people (which is obviously not true). But after the second place everyone loved her, it is an eternal love! And I can say she is not over it. But where is Maria Šerifović? Everyone talks only about Verka!

Verka Serduchka (simply read as it's written))) is a Ukrainian pop singer, was enormous popular in 2000th))) It's biologically a man who dresses up as a woman only on stage)) You looked so funny as you were trying to find sense in the lyrics of the song))) Don't look for any sense, just have fun!))) It's probably a motto of his shows))) He's a comedian, a talented comedian)) You know, it's really bizarre, that silver dress and star on the head, but the thing is one starts to dance and to laugh or to sing along and enjoys the funny moment, and all the bizarre things don't matter anymore)))

Verka serdoyuchka - the image of Andrei Danilka. He is not gay or trans. He took such an image that would ridicule stereotypes about women. And just to ridicule women's vices. In our country in Ukraine it is popular so far. Since this is not an image of a gay man, but a kind parody of a woman. By the way, his songs in the majority were hits in us and throughout the post-Soviet space. Thank you for the video! I like your reviews!

After that, the Russian Federation has banned Vera Serdyuchka's journey and shows her songs at them on the territory. After 7 years after, the Russian Federation has introduced troops into Ukraine in order to occupy it, the war is still taking place, Russian troops are hostage to two cities with one million population each

      Вот ссылка на интервью czcams.com/video/1__EPqhMrFQ/video.html.
