    Hi Francis,
    I just watched your video concerning BM-manager. As I´m not new to DMR but brandnew to the "hotspot-business" I now, because of your inspiration, have all the pieces I need for hotspot-operation together. First of all you introduced a badly missed feature for me and my hotspot. But on top of that: your explanation was that kind of clear to follow and to understand that everybody in the world will be able to install the BM-manager.
    TNX for your very good and "easy to understand"-video here, Francis. Now all my hotspot-needs are fulfilled! ;-)
    73 de Lenz,

    Outstanding information, thank you. One note about this, when I made the change it did alter my DMR master, which I did not catch at first. So whoever is setting this up you may have to double check some of the other settings. Thanks again for this information, 73 from NQ0A.

      I am glad it helped! Thanks for watching. Here is another experiment I recommend. Change the ESSID in the DMR configuration to a 2 digit number. Hit apply changes. Then go to the admin page and add several talkgroups as static. The more, the merrier. The hotspot will scan all the groups until one has radio traffic. After the experiment change the ESSID to what is was before, (even if it is none). Hit apply changes. Go back to the admin page and notice all your static talkgroups disappeared. Change the ESSID back to the 2 digit number you tried above and again hit apply changes. Your hotspot admin page will show all the static groups again! Bottom line is it creates a separate profile in each ESSID that you can taylor to your liking!

      Thank you for watching. I have videos on how to setup promiscuous mode and how to unlock the manual dial feature so you can randomly key up ANY random talkgroup from any channel. Plus making these changes gives you unlimited talk groups, and unlocks another feature I call capture the talkgroup. You can hear any random static group and hit the * key to capture it so your subsequent push to talk key up the last heard talkgroup automatically. I have videos on my channel demonstating these features. You will soon learn your overly channelized code plug is unnecessary. One channel per hotspot and DMR repeater does it all!

      Thanks for watching. I have almost no knowledge of DMR plus. The vast majority of radio traffic in the DMR world is in Brandmeister. To my knowledge, Brandmeister is the only DMR network that allows static talkgroup monitoring. In my next video I demonstrate how connect dozens of static talkgroups to monitor. Another DMR network server worth checking is the TGIF network. I will do a video demonstration of some of its coolness soon!

    Great Video! Just an FYI, API Keys are private, you shouldn't show them in your videos, I realize this is an old video, but until you revoke it and add it back, anyone could use the API key you showed. Not really sure what someone with your Brandmeister API Key could do, but I'd definitely be careful and revoke that key and add a new one.

Please see the link to those videos in your email and let me know what you think. 73 de K9WLW.

  • @scott7876
    @scott7876 Před 4 lety

    Thanks for the video, just added it and it works fine! One question though. In your example, you added 91 and 3100 as static groups, do you then have to key up on the groups to enable them?
    Tnx Scott/WB2UZR

    • @k9wlwradio309
      @k9wlwradio309  Před 4 lety +1

      Thanks for watching. Sorry I missed your question. Yes, to talk in 91 or 3100 you must key up in them. Static groups only are for receiving. Once you key up, you are then in a talkgroup dynamically. When you are in dynamically the static talkgroups are put on hold. They remain on hold until hit unlink TG 4000 on the radio which will disconnect all dynamic talkgroups. Then the static talkgroups will then take over your hotspot.

    • @jeffh-w4jew
      @jeffh-w4jew Před 3 lety +1

      No you do not need to key up to enable them. Static talkgroups remove the need to key up to activate them. All you need to do is tune your radio to a channel for that TG and key up to talk...not to activate...just start talking.

    • @k9wlwradio309
      @k9wlwradio309  Před 3 lety

      @@jeffh-w4jew I do not use channels to key up talkgroups. I use 1 channel for each hotspot. I can change talkgroups by changing the talkgroup on my on channel by any one of the following methods. While remaining on my one "superchannel" I can select that talkgroup from the radio talkgroup list, then a quick ptt, OR I can manually dial the talkgroup in the radio and a quick ptt, OR I can hit the * key on my Anytone and it will "capture and load the talkgroup" for a quick ptt. The PTT is required to activate the talkgroup into dynamic mode. Of the ptt is not hit, it is possible that ANOTHER static talkgroup could appear. The ptt into the talkgroup dynamically will put all the static talkgroups into standby. When I am done in the talkgroup I manually dial a 4000 group call to unlink the dynamic talkgroup and allow the static talkgroups to surface once again. To operate this way, it helps if you set your radio into promiscuous mode (aka digital monitor), then unlock the manual dial feature in the Anytone 878. I have other videos showing how to do that with 878. Yes, I have said goodbye to codeplugs and the one channel per talkgroup mentality. One hotspot channel + promiscuous mode+ manual dial feature = easy and quick access to infinite talkgroups!

    • @jeffh-w4jew
      @jeffh-w4jew Před 3 lety

      @@k9wlwradio309 everyone has their own method for doing things. While that might be how you do things, which sounds very similar to how OpenGD77 works, the response I gave was for the question that Scott asked.
      For people that don't have radios that support promiscuous mode or, for people like me that only use promiscuous mode for troubleshooting, then in my humble opinion, any training videos that are done shouldn't assume everyone does things the same way that you are.
      It's good that you mention the 878 specifically in your second video as people need to understand that promiscuous mode (called Digimon in the AnyTone radios) is not available in every radio.
      You do not need to reboot after configuring the API key in Pi-Star (or Openspot for that matter).
      Also, for security reasons, you really should delete the API key you used in the demo. It's really easy to use that QR code to copy the API key. With that information and the ability to find someone's DMR ID number from their callsign, you make it really easy for someone to impersonate you and control your hotspot(s). If you're going to do something like this in the future, use some form of video editor that allows you to blur the QR code and API key, or delete the API key when you are done and create a new one.
