    I had just about given up hope of getting my 878 to work. Bridgecom has inundated me with emails promising ease of understanding, setup, and whatever to get me on the air with DMR. I have watched Chuck (?) at least 4 times in hopes that I had missed something, to no avail. Then I find this video. WHAT A REVELATION!!! Sebastian you are my hero, thank you so much. Now to connect with my Jumbospot.

    To everyone who desires to present a video tutorial on CZcams. Sebastian's TWENTY-NINE minute tutorial should be the model that you aspire to. Informative in its simplicity, all the while showing, step-by-step, what he's doing. Narrative makes following so easy to replicate in your own code plug. Well done, Sebastian!!

      Except the part where he talks to us like we are morons right under the 1 minute mark, forgets to open the comm port, and talks way too slow. 4:30 in and all he did was set up the radio ID and name. Not to mention, he didn't create a code plug. He modified one.

    One thing I would suggest is when you download the original list from the radio, save that file as "original" or something similar. If you screw something up, you at least have a good original copy. Every few times I change something I actually save as a new file. It's saved me more than once! 73

    My first few times through this video, I missed several important concepts that would have saved me a great deal of time and frustration. As a long-time Mac user who had sworn off Windows somewhere around v 3.11, I also found myself learning Windows 10-no choice; to use the CPS you have to learn Windows. I think that is why I missed so much in my early Bridgecom University sessions. I have learned to take it slow and use the rewind feature on the videos. The latest gem from this video is the ability to add talkgroups in the Talkgroup section of the CPS rather than from the Channels section. Thanks, Sebastian. I didn’t know what I didn’t know, but this video gave me a lot more confidence as to navigating this CPS. 73

    I was confused on DMR programming and how they were trying to have us set up. I was figuring it out but it made sense after watching this. I was on D-Star before this and now it makes sense. It's not much different once you break it down. You start by entering your ID #(DMR), No different than D-Star by entering your registered call sign, then you enter the channels of your local repeaters, no different than D-Star. Then you set up "Zones" which is the same as "Banks" in D-Star and add those channels you created so you can scroll through your stations and scan. Your "Talk groups" in DMR are the same as "Reflectors" in D-Star or Wires-X in Yaesu Fusion, they direct your conversation to that "room" sort of speak.. You can link and unlink them the same in both modes just with different names once they click in your mind exactly how they work. I know I'm probably speaking Greek to those who have played in the digital realm but it might make something click for those who who were thinking the same as I was. Thanks for the video!

    2 software enhancements that would make programming easier: 1) a search of filter on the talk group selection page there are too many to scroll thru. 2) allow the ability to add the zone from the channel add/edit page.

    And here's the really mad thing with DMR, all the programming and messing around , with Fusion all you have to do is enter the repeater/hotspot frequency, press Wires-X and you're done, this is the way it should be.
    Imagine entering Channels, for every TG on every repeater ? madness.

    • @o00scorpion00o
      @o00scorpion00o Před 3 lety

      @@applejacks971 I just figured out that using a hot spot, you can set all the talk groups you want over on Brandmeister site for your hotspot then you can activate digital monitor and it will receive anything that comes through on those TG you set to static on the brandmeister site, except for TG 91 because it's really busy.
      So, say you've the radio set to parrot and traffic comes through on one of the static groups, when you press PTT you will go back to parrot, so the trick is when the static tg comes live again press star until you see "moni reply set success" so when you key up again it will go back to this tg, this is a pretty neat feature.
      So you don't have to , if using a hotspot, set channels for each tg but I don't know if not having a TG and channel set in the radio if it will display the talk group name or just id or perhaps just importing the talk groups will do ?

      @@applejacks971 Check out this video, but you'll also need to watch some of his other videos for this to work properly. He's got really cool tips.
      czcams.com/video/IKf7bD1Hkq0/video.html&ab_channel=K9WLWRadio
      Go into his channel and watch all his videos on the 878 and also his hotspot management , profile settings, really great tips. It's made my experience with DMR a lot better.
      There are downsides though to using static tg but having the profile in the hotspot makes this management much easier. Check out the videos.
      Regarding getting a hotspot, I got a pi-star for home and an openspot on the move, in the car etc, it's really great, some good features and internal battery, it's worth the money, you can even listen to the audio through the internet browser on your computer, phone or tablet. Pretty cool, it also boots up way faster than a PI-Star and you can switch it off with the press of a button without worrying that the filesystem will become corrupt. I really like the openspot 3, I highly recommend it. Best to set it up via home network first. When I go home the openspot connects to my home wifi, in the car it connects to the Iphone hotspot and when in work on the work Wifi. But some work wifi access points can have some features enables that might prevent the openspot 3 working correctly.

      Right!! Been using wires X for a while and it always just works. Dial a frequency, press the button and you’re done. I thought about trying the DMR route but after looking into the amount of computer programming, time, guesswork, trial and error required just to get a radio to work, I ask why? For what? Doesn’t seem worth the hassle.

  • @o00scorpion00o
    @o00scorpion00o Před 3 lety

    I just had an idea, at least for hotspots, Set in Brandmeister for the hotspot all the TG you want static , except the really busy ones like 91 so this means you would not need to program channels for every tg in the codeplug ?
    I haven't figured it out yet but I know there's a way to key up the TG that comes up last.

    There appears to be a problem with the frequency of one of the talk groups. Notice that all of the talk groups use 449.975 MHz as their transmit frequency except WB0YRG MO TG which seems to be using 449.974 MHz. Isn't this a mistake ?

    • @techtoons1078
      @techtoons1078 Před 4 lety +2

      Yeah, I had the same issue. The problem is that BrandMeister isn't the same format that the 878 uses.
      To do it, go to Program > Read from radio to get the settings from your radio into the PC Software. Go to Digital > Talk Group, and if blank, enter a place holder. I just did 1234 under ID, Call alert = None, Name= Test, and Call Type = Group Call.
      Then go to Tools > Export, and pick Talk Group and click Export. Once the file's been exported, open it in Excel (or your open source favorite), and you should see the headings and your filler line.
      Open the Talk Group file you downloaded from Brandmeister and copy/paste the ID and Name columns.
      Use Excel's Fill capability to make sequential numbers in the first column. In the Call Type and Alert columns, just put Group Call and None (like the filler). Save as a .CSV file.
      Go back into the software and go to Tools > Import. Choose Talk Groups, and import the file you just edited.
      Check it under Digital > Talk Groups. If ok, then choose Program > Write to radio. Done.

    Sebastian, you've got a lot of good content in here, however the video could be half as long, and a lot more interesting. I looks like you're using Camtasia to record. Camtasia has some really great editing capabilities. Recording a video live straight through ends up with errors (like your .94 error), and really long pauses (like waiting for it to download the lists). You lose your audience this way.
    Next time try this.
    Record your video walking through what you're trying get across. Don't worry about the audio at this point.
    Record the audio if you haven't already. Edit it for brevity and interest. Give it a good pace, but not too slow or fast. Record a minute of dead air just to have for times when you need to go back and stretch out the audio (yes, you will do this).
    Once the audio is done, then go back and cut the video to match the audio. Learn how to use camtasia's highlighting and zooming. Showing full screen for everything is boring and gets lost on a smaller screen.
    You'll find that your videos will get more kudos and fewer criticisms.

    • @mikelstous
      @mikelstous Před 4 lety +1

      My understanding is all talkgroups (TG) are passively (dynamically) available, even private calls, but when keyed up they become active for a time on that Time Slot (TS). Traffic on this can prevent other users from accessing the active TG on that TS. So when the BYRG repeaters only want BYRP TG on TS 2 and ask that other TG be on TS 1, they can check if anyone is not following directions.

    • @mikelstous
      @mikelstous Před 4 lety +1

      If you get a DMR Hotspot, since you are the only one using the Time Slot on it then there is no restriction for you.
