    Just a quick tip. if you are using the Wires-X button to access the reflector list on your Pi-Star, make sure to use tuner A. I spent days trying to figure out why the Wires-X button wouldn't work with my FT5DE. Eventually the penny dropped and I noticed a note in the Yaesu FT5DE Advanced documentation download. It's a pity the normal instruction manual with the radio doesn't highlight this. Now works a treat

    Just fyi, you have a lot of unused space on the sides that you could enlarge the browser so its easier to read in the video.

    Helpful. Very helpful. I bought a Pi-Star Pi-3b duplex version then realized I had no clue how to configure it. You've provided an excellent starting point. Subscribed. 73 :) KS0BSQ

      There could have been changes since then, I'm also not sure if 2.4 VS 5 ghz compatibility. Make sure you have 2.4 available

  • @feorr1
    @feorr1 Před 3 lety +1

    ok so mine is not showing my call sign or any of that and i can not get my radio to connect to it but i followed every thing you said except for mine is a duplex so there is rx and tx freq and my repeter dose not show up on BM dashboard

    • @HamRadioNewb
      @HamRadioNewb  Před 3 lety

      You have to put in all that info yourself make sure to hit save, as for the dashboard.. I'm not sure. I made this video from a Hotspot perspective, not a repeater perspective. I don't think this would show up there as it's not hosting a room, just allowing you to connect to one.

  • @K1DTC
    @K1DTC Před rokem

    So you need to have pi-star open to change rooms? what if you are using a digital HT like yeasu. Can you program the radio with rooms so one wouldn’t have to run to pistar? Newbie here thanks

    Hi Thanks for a very helpful video iv just built a hot spot using a pi zero & a mmdvm hot iv set it up for ysf but I’m receiving the cq uk room alright but for some reason when I tx from my ftm-400 it’s not passing any audio would know if iv missed a setting somewhere in the configuration?

    • @HamRadioNewb
      @HamRadioNewb  Před 2 lety

      Did you set up any tones on the Hotspot? I can't recall if there is options for that. Or did you program an offset in on the Hotspot?

      Hi thanks for you reply but no Iv not set any off sets and it’s set up for duplex the other thing I notice there’s a tap for “wirex passthrough” as I’m using it for ysf I didn’t know where I needed to turn that on ?

    • @HamRadioNewb
      @HamRadioNewb  Před 2 lety

      The duplex would be what I meant by offset. Make sure your radio is programed correctly for that. Duplex wouldn't usually work on its own in the bottem end of the band plan where Hotspot are supposed to be

    I currently have a hotspot that I got as part of a package when I got my DMR radio and I want to have it also running YSF but I don’t want to have the hotspot default to any specific room is that possible and also what settings will I need so that I can use the wires button on the radio to access the hotspot and get the rooms list so I don’t need to go to my laptop and access the pi-star configuration screen every time I want to change rooms any info you can provide will be gravely appreciated thanks and 73

    I set this up, but the audio coming out of the 400XDR from Fusion is SO LOUD! It sounds over driven from the Pi-Star. Is there a way to lower the audio output?

    • @HamRadioNewb
      @HamRadioNewb  Před 2 lety

      I don't beleive so, have you listened to fusion before this? I wouldn't call the audio great to begin with. It may be normal.

    How can I set things up so I can change back and forth between DMR and TGIF servers just on my radio, without going into the configuration on computer?

    • @HamRadioNewb
      @HamRadioNewb  Před 2 lety

      Is tgif another mode? It should just work. If you're talking about different dmr networks I'm not sure if that's possible. You could probably do it from your phone web browser if thst helps.

    I'm in Northern MN and there's no digital repeaters nearby. I can use this to connect my 991a to the internet and then to digital radio repeaters elsewhere on the internet? I already have a Raspberry Pi 4 just need a MMDVM modem, correct? 73 de NØGFT

      This is correct, pistar will alow you to leverage ysf reflectors. Not wires x, similiar thing just a different network. Alot of wires rooms are linked to ysf reflectors though!

      @@HamRadioNewb The first computer I used would not work 100% with belenaEtcher. When it finished burning the firmware I got a unmount error. I tried it on a 2nd computer same version of belenaEthcher and it worked perfectly. Prior, in the EXPERT settings of Pi-star of my older running version (the reason I wanted to upgrade)
      I saved a backup of my configuration. This comes in handy making the new install configuration a snap.
      Just do a RESTORE and all the work is done.
