  • Join me as I discuss one of the most reliable service .45 ACP pistols. The Smith and Wesson 4506-1. Also it's no stranger to the screen either, you've seen this in a movie or tv show at some point. This particular one is a LE trade in like my other third gen Smith & Wesson.Sorry I was in a rush when i made this video. Just to clarify this pistol has a decocker/safety and a magazine disconnect if i didn't make that clear in the video. This pistol is one that I wanted for years but never seemed to be able to find. I guess people were holding on to them. This is definitely a pistol that represents a by gone era for handguns as far as i'm concerned. Hope you enjoy. Thanks to anyone that watches!

    Spent 20 years in uniform and carried the 4506 on my hip, the 457 on my ankle, and if off duty, the 4506 was swapped out for the 4566. Still have all of them and they are all still great after thousands of rounds. The 457 was great since it would receive the mags from either of the other models. Some of the best S&W ever.

    My S&W 6904 came with 20-22 pound hammer spring. I replaced it with a 17 pound hammer spring and 18 pound recoil spring (stock is 16). Makes the gun so much nicer. It also takes the 5900 mags, so I got a 17 round mec gar mag for a backup mag. I like it alot and looking to get it's big brother the 5604-6.

    Awesome gun! I have the 4566 model, same gun with slightly shorter barrel.
    It’s kind of stupid how the North Hollywood shootout was the impetus for this gun to being authorized, since cops wanted more firepower. The .45 wouldn’t have helped them in that shootout. The 12 gauge rounds didn’t help them. Having 8 rounds of .45 in a magazine was no improvement to 15 rounds of 9MM in a Beretta. That shootout went on for 44 minutes. 3 magazines if 9MM must have went pretty fast and I’d rather have 46 rounds of 9MM then 25 rounds of .45.

      Most cops who went through the trouble of upgrading to a 4506, would also carry quad magazine pouches. So many cops would carry 42 rounds of .45 ammo.
      I got my 4506 coming off probation for LAPD the month after 9-11.The weight of the loaded 4506 and 4 extra mags play hell on the back after 21 years.

    • @TheLAGopher
      @TheLAGopher Před rokem

      @@sigsauershooter3009
      There was no set upper limit. You have to carry 2 magazines minimum for duty and there is a 2 magazine limit for formal events
      when you wear a class A (Long sleeve and ribbons) uniform. Otherwise, it's as much as you can fit on your belt, and that you are willing to lug
      around. I even tried wearing a quad pouch and an extra one mage pouch (for 50 rounds) but it was just too much.
      About 10 years ago the department allowed the wearing of a outer shell body armor carrier (which looks like a uniform shirt) that has the added benefit of allowing the use of suspenders attached to the duty belt. It helps take the weight off the lower back and transfer it to the shoulders.

      to surrender I would otherwise have had to shoot. 23 + years and never had to shoot anybody (knock on wood)
