Probably the coolest series of pistol Smith and Wesson ever made

I miss my 4506. Well I don't miss shooting it, but I do miss owning it. Well I don't miss owning it either, but I do miss looking at it.

Lol. I enjoy shooting it. Not a fan of carrying it weighs a ton. You need a 1006. Makes 10mm shine.

Some of my favorite pistols. I have 12 currently in the collection. I'd also love to see smith bring them back

These guns were the hot thing to have in the early to mid 90’s but they are big. Seems like the prices reflect there collectibility. Another great gun on a great channel.

Good review guys. These 3rd gen's are excellent pistols. They are extremely accurate and and fun shooting. Point like a dream. Those that have not tried them do not know what they are missing. I use them for my bowling pin shoots. They are heavy, but that is what makes them an excellent choice for a range gun and home defense tool. Get one, you'll be glad you did. I love mine.

The time of appreciation for these masterpieces has not come to pass yet. With the exception of revolvers, all my pistols are 3rd gen S&W. Promag 10rnd work fine in these. F92 holsters seem to work ok with the hooked trigger giard of the early model. Factory sraight and curved backstrap grips were available from back then and still are online, along with most parts and springs. Nice video on a great gun friend!

The 3rd generation of Smith and Wesson pistols are no older than the SIG Classic series of guns (read P226), the Beretta 92 series... heck the Glock 17 was released in 1985 yet the S&W are constantly referred to as being old. Nonsense.
    BTW... Miami Vice: Bren X (season 1&2)... then the S&W 645 (season 3&4)... S&W 4506 (season 5)

I have a 4566 and the smaller 457. Great guns. I also bought some aftermarket magazines for my 4566 from ProMag and, believe it or not, they work fine in my gun. Though finding a holster for them may be tricky, I’ve found that Sig p220 leather holsters tend to work fine for both my guns. My guess is p226 leather holsters should also work well. Thanks for the great video.

No offense to the guy in this video but Sonny Crockett did not carry a S&W 4506 after they took the Bren Ten 10mm away... He carried the S&W 645. How do I know you may ask? Because I bought a S&W Model 645 in .45 ACP in 1986. And believe it or not, I still have the gun 🙂 So you can imagine how thrilled I was to look up and see my gun on Miami Vice while watching the show one night!!! He started carrying the 645 in Season 3 of the series. The gun was only produced for 3 years... 1985-1988. I bought mine in '86 because I didn't have $2,000.00 laying around my apartment in 1986 for a Bren Ten so I went with the S&W 645 instead 😊 The S&W 4506 is the gun Denzel Washington carried in the movie Training Day... A S&W 4506-1 to be exact. These are awesome guns imho👍Mine is currently living it's life in my gun safe because it has become a "Safe Queen" 😂

The big rub with these is that the mags are getting scarce and expensive (although the black follower OEM ones are Wilson Combat tier quality), and the only aftermarket options are absolute unworkable garbage; also you really are just stuck with the hard plastic wraparound grips, Hogue rubber, Hogue wood, or if you're right handed and have the cash, Nill grips with a huge thumb rest. That being said, the 4506-1 is dead bang reliable and has a lot of nice features you usually only see on guns that cost a bit more (undercut and checkered trigger guard, ambi safety, Novak or target sights, beveled magwell, trigger with an audible/tactile reset). I shoot mine as much as I can afford and have well north of 5k rounds through it, with no maintenance at all for most of that (I was seeing how long it'd take to choke up), and have only had one stoppage due to a round of reloaded/reman'd ammo having almost no powder in it
