  • Another bunch of marking and layout tools from Banggood. 2 are superb, 1 is good and one was unfit for purpose. I'd love for you to watch the whole vid to find out what's what but jump points are below if you're interested in one item in particular.
    Centre Scale Rule with Hook Stop 1:11 Steel Marking Gauge 3:02 T-Type Multi-Gauge 5:17 Steel T-Type Marking Gauge 8:22
    Was really keen to try these T-type marking gauges. Really practical tool design for woodworking, joinery and carpentry. One of these a real benefit to any workshop I'm sure.
    Links to the items below are affiliate links so if you use them to purchase these or any other items from Banggood, I may make a small commission. Many thanks if you do.

    Any thoughts or expirience with router bits from banggood? Thanks

    • @BischBaschBosch
      @BischBaschBosch  Před 2 lety

      No idea really. I've come to appreciate spending a little more on bits from Titman and Whealdon. I do have a couple of cheap generic sets though. Made in China. The bits on banggood look like the budget generics. No doubt do the job but may not hold an edge long.
      I'd probably avoid large cheap bits from banggood or anywhere else. I bought a cheap 70mm long top + bottom bearing bit last year. It's poorly balanced and sends an unnerving high frequency vibration through the table/router when up to speed.

      @@BischBaschBosch Hi. It arrived - after a fashion... I'd ordered the 300mm version as I figured the 500 would be a little too big for everyday use. However, they sent me the 400mm version instead. I'm not complaining but I got in touch with Banggood to tell them. They replied saying that:
      'After checking, we find that the product you received is in correspondence with the one we selling in our site. The type you bought is 300mm, you can check the order details.'
      The item web page mentions a 400mm version but there's no means of ordering one... All very confusing...
      All that said, it is, as you said, a superb piece of kit. I'll almost certainly order the 160 size as I suspect I'd use it more than the larger one. However, I certainly don't regret buying the one I have - it is quite expensive but I think it's worth it. There's a pleasing solidity to it and is a pleasure to use.
      What do you make of the 160?
      Best aye.

      @@alasdairmackenzie515 It's funny mate. Seems like they intended more sizes in the range but hasn't worked out for whatever reason. The 500 I have was supposed to be 600 for example. But they don't actually do a 600.🤷‍♂️ Still, glad to hear you got it and are happy with it. The 160 is great. Much more handy to mark out a small mortise. Same quality as the biggy. 👌. Little tip in case you take yours out and about or have a shop prone to a bit of damp - I give them a rub down with Axminster machine wax periodically. They run a bit smoother and should offer corrosion protection should they need it.👍

      I built a workshop a couple of years ago and - so far so good - it's still dry (nobody more surprised than me...!!!!!)

    Hate to say this, but you didn’t flip the Centre rule. You drew the second line using the same reference edge on the parallel opposite edge. I know you flipped the board, but that doesn’t achieve what you set out to test.

    • @BischBaschBosch
      @BischBaschBosch  Před 2 lety +5

      Yeah, I know what you mean. Bit of an oversight there, good spot. I did check it with a square like all the other lines drawn with the tools but for some reason didn't include it in the vid. Could be I didn't hit record, don't know. Flipping the board was just so it could be seen clearly on camera. Is square though. Take my word for it or not. In case there's any doubt, my intention isn't to mislead or hide anything with these videos. If something is shite I'll say so and any oversight as above is unintentional. I do try and do a good and thorough job but all this CZcams stuff is very much secondary to actual work. And work often means the obligation I feel to produce regular-ish content for my followers can lead to rushed output.

  • @paulhampson71
    @paulhampson71 Před 8 měsíci

    You didn't need to cut the multi gauge. If you look at the measurements for the depth guage they were still correct and the function you were looking at was the depth guage which some would argue has no need to be able to zero since noone will ever use it for that. So not a major issue in my book.

    • @BischBaschBosch
      @BischBaschBosch  Před 8 měsíci

      With respect, it should be completely obvious why the t-rule and stock need to be flush at zero. As was, at zero, the stock had an overhang of around 1.2mm. So, if you set it to mark 5mm, it would end up marking just under 4mm. What use is that? It absolutely had to be flushed up. Used as a depth gauge, you flip the rule as I did in the vid, using the scale on the other side of the rule that is zero at the very end of the rule. As this doesn't need to align with a zero marker on the stock, it was no problem. But, used as a T-type gauge, it wasn't fit for purpose until I'd rectified it.

  • @ianamck
    @ianamck Před 2 lety +2

    Shame your T-Type Multi-Gauge was faulty. I have had mine for 6 months and was accurate out of the box. It sometimes gets thrown out a little when you tighten the thumb screw to tight. Other than no problems.

      @BischBaschBosch  Před 2 lety +1

      Alright Alvy. Yeah, it really can be mate. I do always try to get them to send me stuff that looks decent quality to minimise the chances of something being garbage but there is still the odd duffer. Think I know the lifting clamps you mean. Know someone else with them and they get on alright with 'em but they do look and feel cheap. Not tempted myself. The steel t-type gauge in this vid is legit though. Very impressed with it.

    How come every Banggood review if made my English blokes? Ya’ll got paid?

    • @BischBaschBosch
      @BischBaschBosch  Před rokem

      Paid? No. They let me pick items I'm interested in and then send them to me to review. But I'm not paid to promote. If something is rubbish, I'll say so (and have). There are a few brits reviewing their stuff now. Don't know why. It has made me think I'll stop now though. One reason might be that woodworkers in the US say, seem to be offered review items by a much broader bunch of manufacturers. Likewise, German reviewers get preferential access to German tool brands etc. I reached out to loads of tool brands - especially domestic - and they weren't interested. Maybe uk manufacturers are just a bit tight. Banggood it seems will send to just about anyone🤷‍♂️

  • @MichaelBaester

    This is a warning to anyone purchasing Bang good wood working items. I purchased a large order of wood working tools and two of the items have quality issues (i.e. do not work or are manufactured incorrectly). I have been going back and forth with them to try and have them refund or do not work. They are actively trying to give me the run around and telling me I need to pay for return shipping. If your item has any issues, be very wary. I have spent weeks going back and forth with their customer support and refuse to honor their own warranty. On top of that, items were delayed shipping by a month, even though I paid for expedited shipping.
    I would not buy again.

      Alright look: that's two of the same comments in 2 of my videos now. I'll leave them there but leave it at that. Don't spam me or I'll just delete them all. In this video, if you'd have watched it, just like the other one you commented on, there was one or more items that were garbage and I said so. I've also mentioned numerous times in the vids and in the comments that buying from China, Banggood or otherwise, is a bit of a punt. A problem is going to be hard to solve due to the distance involved. Though this should be obvious. That actually is the reason I do these videos. To have a good look at items fellow joiners and woodworkers might be interested in to see if it's worth the punt - or risk. Sorry you've had a bad experience and I'm sure you're frustrated I can understand that. But like I say, leave it at that. Don't spam my other vids with the same comments. All the best.

      @@BischBaschBosch I like your videos and my comments are not towards your content. But I am getting the word out, that anecdotally, in my experience Bang Good has poor customer service practices. They are trying to avoid taking responsibility and standing by the quality of their own products. In other words, I am getting the feeling they are trying to wear me down so I give up through constant back and forth messaging. I am just one voice trying to share my poor experience with the company. I apologize if you believed I am spamming your channels, but you are making content that gives Bang Good publicity, so it is fair that there will be counter views. I will not "leave it at that" as people should know that Bang Good can be good, but at its worst is a massive headache.

      @@MichaelBaester I appreciate that Michael mate. By "leave it at that" I meant on my vids. Loads of people review stuff from banggood. Knock yourself out on those. I've had people use my vids to bemoan banggood when they've bought things like drones, clothes, e-bikes etc. To me, not relevant. I'm only reviewing hand tools. Solid machined stuff. Nothing electric so low risk. The risk of returns doesn't just go for Chinese products either. It applies whenever you buy something from 1000's miles away. In the early 00's, company I worked for bought a couple of Arbotech machines for removing mortar from stone. Australian company, no UK dealer at the time. One of them stopped working after a week. Nearly £1000 each. Even under warranty, they wouldn't send a replacement without looking at it. Which would mean sending it from UK to Aus on our dime. We did in the end after a month ir so of wrangling - just over £100! - but just illustrates the risk.
