    Great video, I have a thing about squares I think, as I have way more than I need lol. I have a few different types and sizes including a set of high-quality precision engineering squares, all in a lovely wooden box that rarely see the light of day, because my go to is a set of two cheap and cheerful bright orange chinesium adjustable squares of different sizes I found on amazon at a ridiculously low price, that for reasons I still don't understand, are more accurate than another one I own that cost a lot more...lol I don't even know why they're my go to, I think it's because they're easier to spot if I put them down somewhere as my little workshop is too small and rarely tidy...lol

    Great video. I have just received my Veiko square and the bottom part of the red blade is not flush with the two black panels at the bottom of the square. It actually overlaps these panels very unevenly so you cant stand the sqare up accurately. What this means is that I can't really use this to check squarnes of the inside of a frame for example, which is very disappointing. I was wondering if yours and everyone else's is like that or can you use yours to check inside of frame for squarnes with no issues. I might be able to adjust this with the screws but that will very likely spoil the squarnes on inside of the tool. Many thanks

    Mine which was just like his is now in a land fill. It was not square and there is no adjustment. Even if there was a way to adjust it, you would need a square square. Buy a Woodraphic or a Woodpeckers.

    • @CasualDIY
      @CasualDIY  Před 7 měsíci

      Problem with Woodpeckers and so in you need a mortgage to buy one. I actually ruined my Veiko square, bent it by accident😢

    • @jeffstanley4593
      @jeffstanley4593 Před 7 měsíci +1

      True. Woodpeckers is exorbitantly expensive. I bought the 2618 model on sale and it was $260 delivered. The good thing is that it is absolutely for all intents and purposes "square". To .0025 over its length. The Woodraphic is also square but is only 12 inches long side. It was $90 on Amazon. Since my first Veiko was bad and if I foolishly bought another, then it would be twice as expensive so it is better to buy once cry once. @@CasualDIY

    • @CasualDIY
      @CasualDIY  Před 7 měsíci

      @@jeffstanley4593 I guess if you are a professional and you build furniture or cabinets for living then an investment in woodpeckers makes sense as in a way that will payitself off most likely on the first project. However for a normal DIYer I would just not be able to justify the price. However as you said with the Veiko it could be a bit of gamble. You may get a good one or not, and nor much of a customer service or return policy exists for those type of products.

    @clayedwards987 Před 2 lety +2

    An obvious characteristic difference is the 45 degree angle present on the Empire but not on the Veiko. Why did Veiko leave it out? Isn't it useful? Why did you not mention this obvious difference in your review?

    • @CasualDIY
      @CasualDIY  Před 2 lety +1

      Hmm for marking angles I got better, dedicated tools for that. But I think the biggest issue is that my Empire is not giving true 45 degree reading. Hence I saw no point in highlighting this. Also the notch in the base to allow the 45 degrees actually takes away from stability of the tool when placed against a board. The Veiko doesn't have that option ( unless I missed it somehow ) and I think thats good. As I said got dedicated tools for angles.
