- What do you do when the width of your closet does not match any standard size doors at your local Home Depot or Lowes? You Improvise!
Cheap Home Depot doors can be modified with minimal effort to get custom sizes without paying the custom price.
Tools you will need:
- Table Saw
- Wood Glue
- A Drill Bit Set and Drill

Great video do you recall the height of your opening. I am using the exact same ones. My opening was 80 inches. But they did not quite fit …to tight. So I am going to cut the bottom by 3/4 of an inch.

How would you customize the track for the closet doors??

oh haha. this house is in inglewood, so every 10-15 minutes depending on time of day, you can hear the jets flying over as they arrive at LAX. =P

Great video! Have this same issue with a 47” door which will be an easier fix. Did you buy two 24” doors (two panels each) and then line up two separate sets of top/bottom tracks? Do you happen to have the spec for the HD door you used?

tracks are usualyl aluminum or a thin steel. i just used a hand saw with a metal blade to cut them to size.
How would you adjust the track for the closet doors as well???
the track is a aluminum, or thin steel. just use a metal saw blade to cut it to size. very simple, and a metal saw is like 5 to 10 dollars at your local home center.
These 24X80 bi-folds are now $96.
I have a 47" finished opening... so, I only need to loose 1/2" on each of the outer door (closest to the frame - not worried about the inner doors being 1/2" wider). I wouldn't need to worry about gluing and reinserting correct? Because I would still have about 1" of the outer wood support?
Hi, yeah for a 1/2 inch cut on either side, you should be fine. cut away!
Wait I need advice, my closet is 46” W
(80”H) unfortunately they don’t sell 23” bifold doors anywhere! What should I do or where should I go? I don’t own a saw. I am a female, but I am great at home improvement, just never had a reason to have to trim the width of a bifold door, or any door really! I’m sure I can do it! But I need assistance, I don’t know what’s in the side of the bifold door…are they all hollow? If so do I keep the outer layer to replace it after? ETC!
Hi. You can buy a 48in closet door, and trim 1/2in on each side to bring the total width down to 46in. You’ll need a saw so either purchase or borrow for your situation. The sides of all doors have about 1.5in of material on the side walls
Good way to save money. No one will ever know.
