Manchester United is red. Every home game Old Trafford will be covered in red. Red seats, red shirts, red crest. But within the sea of red, you will notice a smattering of green and gold.
But why? What do green and gold represent to Man United fans?

And chances are 22-23 will be a loss making year also (wage bill hasn't really changed, no CL football, no trophies expected this season etc)

It isn't random tbf, United's financial quarter number which reports we have a debt of more then 500 million now while Glazers surprise surprise pulled another 34million dividends

Not random. Utd accounts were published yesterday, they recorded a record ÂŁ115m loss - during their worst on the pitch season in Prem history.
Oh, they took another ÂŁ33m during that same year too.

There's also something about nostalgia. It's like whenever the camera pans around supporters at the Bernabeu and you see some Real Madrid shirts with the Siemens Mobile print..... It's not just memories of the Galactico era that comes flooding your brain, but one man in particular you wish you could watch playing again: _El Fenomeno._

This only touches briefly on the historical aspect of why Green and Gold is significant to many old school match going United fans. Yes for a while Newton Heath played in Green and Gold but why? Because the club was founded by Irish first and second generation immigrants and Green and Gold is a link to that. United have fans across the world now of course but that doesn't mean that they don't have a huge local following and many of them are fully aware of this historical heritage. One aspect of the dissatisfaction for those fans is that the club is being dragged further and further away from that heritage.

I think the mid 90s Green & Gold away kit that used the Newton Heath colours kept the legacy in memory making it an obvious choice for the campaign.
When the Glazers sell, a new away/3rd kit in those colours will sell loads.

Most united fans have known this for years. No investment in the infrastructure for years. The only thing they can do is take dividends out. Major overhaul needed.

According to the internet, since they changed name and colors they are not the same club and all their history is lost. Also interesting that the glazors are from Rochester NY, Rochester NY is home to one of the biggest US based clubs, the rochester rhinos whos colors are green and gold.
As someone from Rochester, the Rhinos are certainly not one of the biggest clubs lol but it is interesting that the Glazers are from there. I didnât know that.

It's called football
I think itâs time the Glazers packed up their bags đŒ and left. Will that happen? Probably not. But the clubs needs saving in the next year or two. Without investment in the stadium đ training ground etc they will be left firmly behind spurs etc. it is already impacting their ability to sign players - the problem is there is soooo much debt on the club building those key elements for future success are going to start impinging anyone that is interested in buying them. As itâs further cost on top of the extreme levels of debt. Ergo there is better value buying other clubs - the like of Aston Villa or Newcastle (a recent example)
