  • Before Manchester United moved to Old Trafford they were known as Newton Heath LYR FC and played in two different home stadiums.
I explored Manchester and the old homes of Man United (and Newton Heath); North Road & Bank Street.

watching them have a disaster of a season after signing the "GOAT" CR7 and then seeing them struggle to sign anyone this window (so far), including publicly chasing De Jong who DOESN'T WANT TO JOIN because Utd can't offer Champs league football for who knows how many seasons. Yep, this last season and this season coming should be pretty funny.

Great story, Man Utd to secure a future needs big time to rid itself of the Glazer ghouls before they bankrupt the club. On another note that I feel is only fair to mention, I do hope everyone associated with FC United of Manchester is at the beginning of a folklore success that will also make for a great story in time, what has been achieved so far by FC United is remarkable.

Excellent video. Glad you mentioned you are not a Man Utd fan, but interested in Football history and old stadia. I am a Liverpool fan, and old enough (68) to have visited the old grounds now long gone. I loved old those old grounds, such as Burnden Park (Bolton) , Roker Park (Sunderland), White Hart Lane (Spurs), Goodison Park soon to be added to the list. One old ground I never liked was Wembley. One of my students lived right next to Roker Park. His Mam would get tickets for the Sunderland v Liverpool games and the family always made me welcome, proper Wearsiders. Roker Park was a grand old ground. I have always liked Sunderland. Calvin Palmer , Sunderland left back in 1972, once put me and my dog up for the night, as we were hitchhiking down from Scotland. Sadly Calvin had left Sunderland by the following season when they beat Leeds Utd in the FA Cup Final. He was a good bloke, but tended to fall out with his managers. Probably cos he was smarter than them. He died in 2014, very sad.

At present The Old Trafford Stadium is still incomplete & needs is an upgrade of the SBC stand & East & West quadrant to be completed first before you can sort out the roof.
This Stadium has a lot of potential & can be one of the best stadium in Europe if not the world with the original design cos it has character & authentic with the potential capacity of at least 90K, all it needs is an refurbished & some TLC.
Take Note: The Stadium Must Not Exceed the rail way track!

The Owners were the ones who stop the Original project by using the excuse of the rail track complications. As stated previously, the design has already been laid out for completion of the stadium by original designers, to finish before the train track but the owners compromised by installed the 3rd tier cos the fans were complaining about the capacity at that time.
Alls well we like to think that once the owners depart or bring in SJR and his team we can address the layout for the necessary expansion of the South stand, East & West quadrant issue ASAP because Wembley or Man City's Etihad is to far to deal with the fan base, we're sure that can be achieved with minimal fuss, going by our walk around the stadium experience by observation.
Take Note: The expansion should not exceed the rail track.
We feel in 18 month to 2 years copying Real Madrid project with the right people it can be achieved in line with progress on the pitch!

I corrected a CZcamsr recently who put United's formation date at 1902, unaware that they'd changed their name. If the club was given a winding up order then unless the company went into liquidation, like Rangers did, and the saviours stepped in at the last minute to save the club then it's the same club. It upsets a lot of Rangers fans when I tell them that the new Rangers is a phoenix club and doesn't actually have any legal ties to the old one. So, in all honesty, the trophies that it claims to have won were won by the old club, which is now defunct. Anyway, my one and only trip to Old Trafford was in 1978 when they were celebrating their Centenary. It was a friendly against Real Madrid. I bought a United centenary scarf. Had it for years but don't know what happened to it since. That was until earlier this year when I took my granddaughter to watch the women's game against Everton. She likes to think of herself as a female Ronaldo.

Man Utd's Old Trafford stadium that a bit of TLC won't cure.
All it needs is the Upgrade of the Sir Bobby Charlton's Stand with a 2nd tier to complete the original design & the removal of the 3rd tier of the Sir Alex Ferguson's Stand & replaced by TV Screens for all 4 corners.
We also want a levelled retractable new Roof + modern refurbishment of the rest of the stadium to warrant a 90K capacity in comfort.
    SBCS 25K +
    SAFS 25K +

Every year they'd have a football camp and all the local kids would go and play right next to to the spot where United's ground used to be. The football would either be set up in the car park, inside the velodrome or in Phillips park. Amazing memories, I hope that summer footie camp is still going strong 👍🏻

The original plague at Northampton Road was on the corner of 60s comprehensive school building, same shape has the bank st plaque I remember you could see it from the road, it was demolished in the 90s so probably was kept as a souvenir by someone, the original names of teams usually came from works teams like Newton heath, arsenal and west ham originate from factories, then you had church teams that came from teams like Everton , man city and Bolton, and teams created from cricket clubs, most teams had name changes so I wouldn't say these were a second formation date , there is a blue plaque for Man city's ground on Bennett st , when they were Ardwick FC but yet to spot it , Manchester Central FC was actually a third MCR team that successfully applied to join the league for the newly formed third division north but was blocked by city and United , central had Billy Meridith as a coach who had both city and United history connections , some say it was to protect United who were financially struggling at the time, but central was based in Bellevue much closer to the new Maine road stadium than old Trafford

Gutted you couldn't make the Cork City V Galway United yesterday. Top of the table clash in the 1st Division. 6,500 sellout and pyro everywhere. Hopefully you can visit Turner's Cross when we pick up the title.

Interesting story regarding the first period of success. United signed 4 top players from City after the Blues landed in trouble for illegal payments to the players.

Manchester Central were a separate team. Their story is short but interesting. At one point they had a higher attendance than United and City and played at a stadium in Bel Vue. A much smaller version of Central still exists today. Check their history out as it could be a great video to make one day.

The plaque is/was on the wall of the left hand Fujitsu building closest to the car park entrance. I work in the middle of the 3 Fujitsu buildings & it was there when I last looked!

The oldest part of the old Trafford stadium, is the old tunnel on the half way line, which as far as I am aware part of the original Archibald Leitch design, to walk down that tunnels where Meredith, the babes and law and best walked down sends a shiver down my spine even now

We want an Expansion to approx 90K capacity, Modern refurbishment & a Levelled Retractable New Roof!
There's an completed stadium design on WHF!🔰@UtdWesleyy with a comment stating: So apparently we are looking at an expansion of Old Trafford. It’s been talked about for years but put off because of the complications around the south section of the stadium but if we do manage to do it…🔴 2 Tier SBC Capacity: 88,000+
We're sure that can be achieved with minimal fuss by observation cos its already laid out going by our walk around the stadium experience.
Take Note: The Stadium Must Not Exceed the rail way track!
    Worth a view, please share!
