    Mister Sam, I have been watching your channel for over 6 years (circa 2017), and I am just now leaving my comment.
    Your videos are bloody brilliant; [they are] thorough, entertaining, humourous (when needed), witty, insightful, informative and instructive. It is always a joy whenever I see a new video of yours show up in my feed. You are a delightful chap. I enjoy your out-and-about mini-vlogs with Chloe, too. Lovely stuff, mate.
    Further, this old doctor has learned so much about locos, as well as this extraordinarily (expensive) hobby we in this esoteric community love so much.

    22:49 22:48 - bewildered by how you struggled so much with the keeper plate removal.
    I've recently had to do this, simply unfasten the 4 side clips with a thin jewelers screw driver, then press inward and lift upward the clip on the end towards the fuel tank side...
    Keeper plate pops free, no damaged keeper plate, no Damaged bogie frames etc..
    The chains never even came into it!

    I’m actually quite pleased that Bachmann has produced a 37 in direct competition with Accurascale. It allows the 37 to be used as an accurate touchstone between current manufacturers as well as to chart the history of loco production using the previous models produced by manufacturers going all the way back through the older Bachmann models, Hornby’s offerings, the Lima effort and finally to the Tri-ang 1965 model. This will be the second model I will buy after seeing your review after the Rapido 16xx. Love the reviews :)

    Oh-ho, here comes Accurascale beating the competition. In the first place I don't know why Bachmann brought out the downgraded new one, the first one was good! Accurascale are to be applauded for bring out Loch Lomond as sadly in real life this loco has been scrapped! This will bring happy memories for those who trundled behind the 37s weaving through the picturesque panorama of the actual Loch and Argyle Forest on the West Highland line to Fort William!

      I think Bachmann probably re-tooled theirs before Accurascale announced theirs. It doesn’t really seem like Bachmann to copy another manufacturer, and to be fair Bachmann have been upgrading a lot of their diesels lately (ie: the new Class 20, 24, 25 and 47). Bachmann’s new 37 isn’t bad ether, but I do think that the Accurascale one is slightly better.

    I have no doubt after your review that this is a fab loco. You showed off the beauty in the detail. And it is, for the price brilliant.
    However, I feel a sense of bias. You mentioned you found no negatives yet, the detail of the chain, the base keeper plate, the sand pipe, inability to service they’re all negatives, especially the poor quality mechanism of the bogey and the bar that touches.
    I wouldn’t say “no negatives”.
    So that was contradictory.
    Preached as a great. But I can’t help wonder how this would’ve been talked about if it had the hornby or Bachman logo with the “negatives” you did find above.

    Another bonus feature that Accurascale have built into this model (and a few of their other diesels) is the option to buy replacement wheelsets in P4 or EM, and just switch out the OO wheels. While my collection of P4 locomotives is currently quite small, that number will get a significant boost thanks to handful of Accurascale locos I have or will have. It's a really cool feature I wish other manufacturers thought about as it really only requires a little bit more effort at the design stage, at least for Diesel and Electric locomotives, Steam ones would naturally be a lot more difficult.

    Good review which confirms I did the right thing to purchase this Loch Lomond 37 with Factory Sound. I also have the Loch Eil 37027 with a white line underneath and Legomanbiffo sound installed. Also a BR Blue Deltic 9021 with Factory Sound. TMC has applied high gloss finish to both 37's and the Deltic. My traindoctor in New South Wales has attached snowploughs to both 37's.
    Having said that I had a lot of trouble especially with the chains of the Deltic that TMC has redesigned in a marvellous way !
    Very delicate nifty parts that love to come off as well (like Guard irons and corner steps and a windhorn and lamphook from the Deltic and a windscreen pushed in on the Loch Lomond).
    Of course these three Accurascale loco's are (finally !!) a very nice trio but I think Bachmann is more robust and less prone to annoyances like I have mentioned. I still have a much older 37 from Bachmann with large logo and decent factory sound that still looks the part !
    Cheers, Jan, Australia

    I have the same model sound fitted. Really pleased with it. I had the same issue with a sander pipe clicking on sleepers, and one of the roof magnets from the body stayed connected to the roof meaning the roof wouldn’t sit flush. It was a minor fix I had to glue a tiny magnet back in.

As for your comment for the motor position, KATO made an HO GE P42 “Genesis” passenger diesel, that has motors with flywheels in the trucks (so it has actually two motors). I wish that more manufactures would include that feature. Of course I am sure the price would go up, but they run sooooo nice. • @locohauledforum
    @locohauledforum Před 10 měsíci +3

    Hi Sam. I know I've mentioned this before, but lets tackle the pricing issue. Most trades operate on a rule of thirds, i.e. if an item costs £50 to make you sell it to a shop for £100 and they sell it for £150, so both the manufacture and the retailer get a £50 profit. This is where the suggested RRP comes from. Where Accurascale is scoring over Bachmann is that they are effectively cutting out the model shops. Yes you can get their items via model shops, but I've never seen them listed at any price other than the price that Accurascale are advertising them at. This suggests to me that the model shops are basically selling them on an affiliate link kind of deal in which they just get a very small percentage for getting the trade, not that Accurascale really need them. If Bachmann were to do the same then their class 37 would retail at £163.30. Effectively both models are being sold by their manufacturers at about the same price, the difference is that Bachmann are giving the retailers an opportunity to make some revenue from theirs. The 'rip off' price you refer to is the retailers mark-up. I imagine if Bachmann were to adopt the Accurascale sales model we would actually see them retailing for £159.99, but no discounts or different prices anywhere.

    • @SamsTrains
      @SamsTrains  Před 10 měsíci

      No, I don't think that's quite right. Model shops wouldn't be interested in selling models on the basis of an "affiliate" link kind of deal - they have overheads to pay, and they couldn't afford it. Accurascale sell to retailers at a discount as usual, they just don't play around with artificially high RRPs that make products seem better value than they are when they get "discounted". Where do you get your information that retailers are making no money from Accurascale? If it's just a guess, I'd refrain from spreading such things, as it could be a considerable misrepresentation of the facts.
      Thanks for watching, Sam :)

    • @locohauledforum
      @locohauledforum Před 10 měsíci

      @@SamsTrains Hi Sam I was very careful to put in 'This suggests to me' before I made my comment, although perhaps I was not so careful later on. To answer your comments. I wasn't suggesting that retailers are not making any money from Accurascale, just that they are only perhaps making a small percentage. I would imagine that Accurascale want to keep those modellers who don't use the internet happy and supply a certain amount through shops to those customers happy. As to whether shops would sell them for only small amounts, the answer I would suggest is a definite yes! If someone is offering to supply you with a box and you're guaranteed to make a 5 or 10 pounds from it then why wouldn't you? How much do you think they make on a pot of paint or a pack of imitation grass, a box is a box, retailers are not romantic... but with a high ticket item this also comes with the added bonus of producing that all important cash flow, and cash flow is king! Imagine if someone comes to you and and says they can guarantee to deliver you three boxes a month and they will supply them for £190 each and then you can sell them for £200 each. You will make £30 profit every month, but far more importantly because you would normally have 30 days to pay you would have an extra £570 of cash flow in your business every month, and while you could argue that you can't really use it the bank manager will be very impressed and he will feel more happy about lending you money or investing. As I say, I have no idea what Accurascales trading terms are and I'm sure they would not be happy to share them, but my personal guess would be something along those lines, but it is purely a guess. I don't spend a lot of time studying Accurascale prices but I have very rarely seen their items being sold at anything other than the same price that they sell them for, and I'm more than happy to be proved wrong. I think the only times I have seen reductions is with wagons that have perhaps sat around longer than would be expected. What would normally happen in these instances is that the manufacturer would issue a credit rebate against your next order on certain items, this is why you will suddenly see a single item being reduced by all the retailers at the same time. It's not the shops offering you the extra discount but the manufacturer. I'm just trying to give you an insight into my 30+ years of buying and selling in retail and how the system generally works, it is off course not always the same. I hope you find this interesting or at least something to ponder, I'm just trying to maybe put some context in. I certainly have no affiliation with either Bachmann or Accurascale and my thoughts are my own, and they are just that, thoughts and ideas based on experience.

    • @SamsTrains
      @SamsTrains  Před 10 měsíci +1

      Accurascale have a trade website and have previously published their trade terms. They do 30-33.33% for trade and generous terms too ( redir terms and free shipping) So basically they are just doing it way better or bachman are overcharging

    • @locohauledforum
      @locohauledforum Před 10 měsíci

      @@jamesthatcher4190 Thanks James, very interesting. When this model was announced in 2019 with this RRP of £169.99 it was basically the same as Bachmann's 37. Since then we have had Covid and a world wide rise in the cost of shipping and energy that makes peoples eyes water, and business were not given the same level of protection via price capping as households. While some of those costs are starting to fall now they are still way more than they were in 2019. This has led to the large inflation in everything that we buy in the UK, although again some savings are now starting to drift through. Accurascale do not live in a bubble away from the rest of the world so they must be doing something to negate this. Perhaps a 90/10 split with internet/retail sales, so basically selling 10% of product at cost to retailers, you don't make a loss, but it hits your top line. I hope this doesn't sound like an argument, I'm just trying to figure out how they are doing it, the business side is probably more interesting to me than the locos! (lol).

    Hi Sam. Bachmann over priced and over here. I watched your video the other day on Hornby's new P2 and was absolutely sold so I bought one yesterday at my local train shop Kernow model centre. Well I am very much sold on this Accurascale class 37 you have just tested what a wonderful model I will get one a bit later on though ,if there still around. great video again thank you.

    Agree that Bachmann doing a 37 was a waste of resources, when something new could be produced instead and the ‘old’ Bachmann 37 is still a fine model. Where the new Accurascale 37 really smashes the Bachmann one is in the sound department. The A/S one sounds like having a real 37 in the room :D

    Re the driver and secondman figures, Accurascale said they're happy to add £10 to the RRP to include them for free :)
    Also there are retailers that discount the Bachmann 37 to around £160 to £180, so you'll be happy to hear that

    • @SamsTrains
      @SamsTrains  Před 10 měsíci +1

      Yeah... not worth £10 in my opinion - from the images I've seen, the colour 3D printed figures don't look that good. I feel confident that 2 injection moulded figures could be produced and painted for much less than than £10. And I'm glad the Bachmann have been discounted - but £160-£180 is still far too much, given how much better Accurascale's is... the lesser model needs to cost less if you ask me!
      Thanks for watching - Sam :)

    Interesting review, Sam. I have Accurascale's Class 31 on order with them. Regarding problems caused by extra details, in my experience when I find that details interfere with performance or operation of the model, if they aren't necessary for the actual operation of the model, and especially if they aren't very visible, then off they go. If I can I try to remove them so that they can be attached again in the future.

    Hi Sam
    Yep great model. Got Loch Lomond a couple of weeks ago . My third one arrived today. Never thought much of diesels until this 37 came along. Retailers now discounting Bachmann 37's down to Accurascale dcc ready pricing or sometimes less which says it all. Get real Bachmann (and Hornby for that matter) or get stuffed endlessly by the likes of Accurascale.

    Bachmann Class 37's after 6 months released are heavily reduced at the retailers because they are simply not shifting at those ludicrous prices, which just proves they are fleecing customers right from the beginning...if you really want a Bachmann for whatever reason then wait 6 months post release.

    The sound on the DCC ones is impressive - including the Hall sensors that detect curves and squeal - is it time for DCC, Sam?.. I know you have a sizeable fleet of analogue locos, but perhaps just one DCC circuit so you can enjoy the Accurascale sounds. I run the 55, 37 and 92 from Accurascale and the sound and other DCC features are best-in-class.

    Great video, I picked up 37419 a few months ago and love it. I had an issue with the sanding pipes, they got caught on my points and I did derail :( But after cutting them down its works a treat. Under Hornby DCC you don't get the cab, instrument, engine room lights or the spot light. I believe after talking to a local model shop they had issues with these on a non Esu chip. This lets it down slightly, however on the plus side, the stay alive feature is brilliant. It copes well with my Ebay special tracks (I'm just starting out so I didn't want to spend a lot) It makes me want to get another one, but I'm, torn between this one, 37402 or 09, or 37608

    In other words Bachmann makes a more maintenance friendly model and actually the grills on the sides of the front of the locomotive are more realistic, with that said you should have left all the switches in the on position. It's beautiful to see a model 37 in person

    It sounds like Acurascale is suffering from Rapidoitis, adding details to the point of hampering operation. The early offerings from Rapido were so detailed from the factory, but the details caused operating problems, and they got a lot of returns. Now they still have the details but the details that affect operations are included as add on parts. I think Acurascale will be doing the same thing in the future. Another great review, and another great model.

    Amazing value from Accura (I hope I have spelt it correctly) for a much bigger locomotive than Bachmann's tank engines. That is definitely the best review you have done Sam.I would buy an Accura class 37 but as far as I can remember the only I saw were those at Plymouth Laura ànd I am a SR enthusiast who was on a SR runabout ticket. I hope that Accura will produce some SR based steam engines as even in Crawley and Three Bridges we still have steam traction to watch and enjoy.

    Excellent review Sam - great loco by Acc/scale again detailed and well worth the asking price - put others to shame H/By, Bch/man but bit of design oversight with the rubbing detail parts (pipes) against boggie and the coupling mechanism; apart from that perfect model - got one on order as a Xmas / Birthday present.

    Holy wow, that's a HUGE rating for this model! So excited to pick one up - the only dilemma I have though is that I do already have a Bachmann 37, I want to say from the 2014 run - 37425 'Concrete Bob' - and I'm not sure how different the Accurascale model would look side by side with it? Would it fit alongside a Bachmann one just fine?

  • @jamesthatcher4190

    The accurascale chains are friction fit. They will pop out with some firm pressure using a small grip or good tweezer. The sand pipes are designed to scale and intended to be cut if your curves are tight. Scoring it low isn’t a real reflection of the fact it’s a much superior mechanism to any of my other stock

    • @SamsTrains
      @SamsTrains  Před 10 měsíci +1

      I did try with tweezers... the parts broke before snapping apart - if they were designed to be snap fit, that didn't work on my example,

  • @lapiswake6583
    @lapiswake6583 Před 10 měsíci

    Very nice. I have Accurascale's 37423 with the WIPAC lights, and it is a fantastic loco. I got bachmann 37430 on a very good deal from TMC, meaning it cost me less than the accurascale one, but having not run either on Ashbrooke Central because I moved 300 miles away, I can't really say which is better in regards to performance for me (but the previous generation bachmann 37 is much more cost effective than the new one).
    My only main gripe with the accurascale 37s is the delays. I was told at the start of the year that the first batch including 423 would be here in march, and the second batch including 37610 and 97301 would be due in may. Turns out the first batch was refurbished 37/4s, 2nd was scottish 37/0s, 3rd was large logo locos, and 4th is the /6s and the 97/3 which is due to leave the factory very soon.
    But, I've learned to expect all locomotive preorders at least 50% later than originally slated. Every loco I have preordered has been late: KR Models GT3 and The Fell (plus the Leader and DHP1 still on their way), Bachmann G5s, Accurascale 55s and 92s and 37s, hornby trainbow 800 (although I only expressed my interest with my local shop, it arrived 2 years late with all the price rises that go with that so I didn't go for it straight away), Heljan 18000 and 10800 (which is still on its way), and more.

    Decent review here Sam, to be honest I couldn’t really care whether the accurascale thwarts bachmann, I own the bachmann one and it’s a really nice model, I also really like it and feel it does some things better, in my view there is room for both and currently bachmann has a much better variety in my view which is the reason why I went with the bachmann one, my one wasn’t that expensive, from kernow I got my bachmann one for £189.99.

    We have the same Accurascale class 37 ❤ though I run on DC the cab lights work and even the lights behind the dials on the cabs dash light up even at a crawl ( I assume that they are lights behind the dash and not cab light reflection)
    It's a beautiful machine sod model of the year or even decade not been a better. I've serviced mine too (or did a dry run) harsh on the mechanism. But even then. I've pre ordered everything else they've got coming now too.
