Yes, this is a concept album. It is loosely based on George Orwell's "Animal Farm," although Pink Floyd decided to go with only three animals on the album: dogs, pigs, and sheep, each with their own self-titled songs.
The Dogs represent uncompromising, relentless and ruthless businessmen, who take advantage of all for personal gain, but live short and loveless lives until they have "a good drown, dragged down by the stone."
The Pigs ("Pigs: Three Different Ones") represent the ruling elite and their crass and hypocritical usurpation of the masses. Roger Waters, who wrote all the lyrics, calls out three people that he feels are representative of Pigs, hence "Three Different Ones" in the title of the song.
The Sheep are the masses, or the working class. Roger threw in a great twist at the end of that song, but you'll have to listen to it to find out what it is.
Some people find this to be PF's best work, but for me, a forty-year-plus fan, all of their work approaches perfection.
Also, it is worth noting that all of the animal noises on the whole album were created by PF using their instruments.
In short, a mind-blowing album from the best band ever. Enjoyed your reaction.
It's my favourite album of all time. I listen to it between 5-10 times a month n have done for 33 years. Great to play loud in the day. Low volume at night. Great to hear whilst soaking in the tub, reading a book and "you know what"...😂 Great for every occasion. I love to smoke a bit of weed now and then too to this record. 😊

The Dogs represent ruthless business people who only care about getting to the top and not giving a shit about who they have to stab in the back to get there.
Bought this album on the day it came out in 1977 & had no idea what they were even singing ( no album liner notes ) but the music was 'trippy' & it was Pink Floyd. That was all that mattered to me at THAT point.
One of my fav 5 albums by them.

@erinna_the_white_rose yes I do play guitar and play Pink Floyd. Although , I just don't play that alone. I also play classic rock & blues. I've also seen Pink Floyd in concert 2 times. The Wall concert , Pulse and saw Rodger Waters . Those are just the Pink Floyd I've seen. I've also seen live Black Sabbath , Clapton , CREAM reunion ( wich were hard tickets to get ) , and many more shows from A to Z.

The animals represent people, at least that's what I'm getting. Pigs- the wealthy and powerful, Dogs- dishonest businessmen with corrupt traits dedicated to their jobs and end up without love, family or friends. The concept is of comparing human behavior to various animals.

C'était mon premier pink floyd que j'avais acheté des pink floyd en 78 en cassettes à cette époque là j'avais 15 ans et n'avais jamais entendu de PF la pochette m'avais intrigué à savoir je vis dans une île en plein millieu du pacifique Tahiti imaginez vous écouter cette album avec des copains la nuit sans lumière sur une plage déserte entouré de la nature avec une légère brise venant du large et le clapotis des petites vagues sur le sable chaud reflet de la pleine lune et des étoiles à travers les nuages aux formes diverses qui parcourent le ciel croyez moi avec pink floyd c'est un autre univers on ressort transformé en alien😂

Dogs represent business cut throats, the line that says all the bad blood slows and turns to stone, means inevitably the bad things that have been done will drag them down in the end

This is a pretty dense record. While on the surface it seems pretty basic, acoustic guitars, minimal keyboards, and technically only 4 songs, the lyrics are very deep and layered.
It's based of the three main character types from Orwell's 1984, dogs, pigs, and sheep. But it's also about becoming disenchanted with the music industry, the fans, and each other.
Knowing Roger penned most of the lyrics, if not all, having David sing the line "so when they turn their backs on you, you'll get the chance to put the knife in" is pretty messed up. The wall barely had any contribution from David and Nick, and pretty much none from Richard. Then, the Final Cut has maybe one or two David guitar solos, and Richard was fired from the band during or after the Wall. Roger first became one of the Dogs, and then eventually one of the Pigs. Damn shame really. They could have been a real force through the 80s and 90s.
Always been a huge Pink Floyd fan myself (get my love for Floyd from my mom....God rest her soul) but, never actually took the time to listen to this album, until a few days ago. Funny thing is, I've owned the shirt of the cover art for this album for about a year and never heard it until now lol Awesome stuff! Glad I took a chance on it. Great video by the way and you are looking so beautiful ❤ 🥰 😍 🌹
