  • Today I dive into legendary English rock band Pink Floyd. "Comfortably Numb" is the third single from their eleventh studio album THE WALL released in November 1979. The tune was released as a single in 1980, with "Hey You" as the B-side.

You simply HAVE to watch the live Pulse concert version. It has what most consider to be the greatest live guitar solo in music history.

The live "Pulse" concert version of this song has an extended second guitar solo that many point to as one of the greatest guitar solos of all time. The Pulse tour also had one of the largest most complicated stage shows ever put together and it's in the legendary category as far as concerts go. In other words, well worth a watch.

Not a symphony/orchestra and not string instruments. Those beautiful background sounds are Richard Wright on the keyboard!! For years the unsung hero that engulfed Pink Floyd music kind of like a giant comforting blanket but now finally starting to get more recognition!!
You may say you missed out but you're actually very lucky in a way with Pink Floyd!! You have an almost bottomless rabbit hole to fall into! Every song you listen to from here forward is going to surprise you from them because every song is completely different yet sounds the same somehow?! We always enjoy watching someone discover our favorite groups with you discovering my favorite group in Floyd!!

Michael Kamen scored the orchestral accompaniment for this song which was then performed by musicians from the NY Philharmonic and the NY Symphony Orchestra.

@@jimangela4589 Yep, definitely orchestration done separately by Kamen and ties the chorus vocals and melody together perfectly. But still agree with @jonhenke1504 - Richard Wright's synth throughout their albums is what gives Floyd their the true sound and feeling. Definitely underrated musician.

The live pulse version of this song is probably the best live show to date. That was in 1994. The extended guitar solo is said to be one of the greatest!! I have to agree!!

You should really watch the movie called The Wall. I saw it in the 90s at a cinema, I was physically ill from being overwhelmed by the intensity. Fantastic band. Going to check out your reaction to Time, must have missed that one!

Pink Floyd is so good live, that you need to hear this live in the 1994 Pulse concert, where the solo is extended and built upon.... considered one of the greatest solos evva. Period.

Thanks for reacting to Floydicus Pinkus. Couple of things about the Floyd, many of their albums were written to be listened to all at once, rather than as a collection of individual songs. Many people describe watching or attending a PF concert as an “experience”; I think you’re seeing why. Pink Floyd are widely respected as masters of sound, and they were doing it back when you used razors and editing blocks to edit the physical recording tape.
Finally, let me add my voice to those of many others - WATCH THE LIVE PULSE CONCERT VERSION. This studio cut is a great song; that live version is better. The Pulse concert was mind-bending. If you decide to dive down the PF rabbit hole, you could watch pretty much any song from that concert, and know it’s going to be a great performance. The Pulse physical stage was monstrous. 180 feet wide, 130 feet tall, it dominated every venue they performed in. 700 tons, 3 days to set it up, two more to pack it away again, and three of these stages hop-scotching around the world. And the LIGHTS!! Between that huge arched stage, and the floating “eclipse” screen, you really can’t believe the truly incredible light show they put on. Floyd has a well-earned reputation for incredible stage shows, and Pulse is a big reason why. PLEASE REACT TO THE PULSE SHOW. ‘Nuff said.

Pink Floyd is on an entirely different level, likely one of the top 3 Rock bands ever, certainly thee GOAT in Progressive Rock.
A great song to kick back, relax with some medical weed.
One note to keep in mind, we, Pink Floyd fans, are serious fans, and a general rule when listening to Pink Floyd music is,... Never, Ever, EVER,... pause or talk over a David Gilmour guitar solo!
One of the most emotion filled, melodic, Rock guitarists ever. His soaring solos are hypnotic and exhilarating at the same time, filled with emotion and expressive phrasing.
One of the most unique Rock guitarists, as a Rock guitarist myself David Gilmour has been a huge inspiration to me. Of all the great Rock guitarists from the 1960s, 70s and 80s, when I was young, (today I'm 67), Dave Gilmour is my favorite.

So much fun seeing someone 'discover' a band and having fun :). If you haven't got the stomach for full albums (which, I'm sure you already know, is the 'real' Pink Floyd experience) check out 'Echoes part 1: Live in Pompei'. It's the only (good quality) video of them in their younger years and it's a lauded song as well.

That's bassist and lyricist Rodger Waters singing the versus, David Gilmour with the chorus and of course, lead guitar. The Pulse live version of this is a must. Then check out "Hey You", also from 'The Wall' album. 👍

2:46 ...need to listen to the album dude, the instrumentation makes absolute contextual and musical SENSE ~ Floyd have / had a tendency to classically arrange / layer the instruments to create the "piece" in each track, sure + and the pieces (generally) told each album's story ... best heard "like a book" .... *great* Reaction + imo VERY nice to see recent reaction where the music isn't cut to shreds with mostly premature opinions ...(Jamal AKA Jamal was one of the first and best content creators for this ...True LOVE for Music) ... subbed and liked

Great reaction to Comfortably Numb. This indeed a great song by Pink Floyd but for far not their best in my opinion. However. You must listen and watch to Comfortably Numb live at PULSE 1995! As it is just something from another universe. Go on and discover Pink Floyd. It can be a life changing experience. Enjoy, relax and experience the best rock music that was ever created.

Pink Floyd didn’t write songs. They wrote music. Their albums were concept albums where one song leads into the next. The wall tells a story from beginning to end of a boy whose father died in the war. Written by Waters whose father died during the war

As great as the studio version is, later live versions are even better. This is a band that people don’t always get right off the but when you get it, there’s no turning back. Metals bands appreciate it. Hip Hop artists as well. What does that say? It says they are timeless, genre non-specific. I don’t know of another band who has ever done that or appealed to pretty much everyone if they take the time to listen. The greatest band of all time in my opinion. There is simplicity in the songwriting but also so much complexity. Universal legends.
