The way Eddie Van Halen put it into words is best way I've heard David Gilmour explained. "David Gilmour is the benchmark of less being more. He has proved that shredding and fast playing is not the benchmark of mastery level. Gilmour never wastes a note; he builds his solos like a painter; every note, every bend, every tonal inflection has merit...David's solos paint a picture in the minds of his listeners. Something that really is a testament of his talent as a guitar player"

    • @trevorgreen6658

Dude, it's really the truth. It's a lot easier to play things fast although it seems contradictory. Both are amongst my favorites but Gilmore never wastes a note. It's crazy. But neither did SVG. It's all about the soul of the player.

It was May 1994 in Raleigh, NC. David was playing this solo and then the lights hit that crystal ball that is as big as a house. The whole stadium was in a trance. The first show I was way up in the nosebleeds and you could see the mirrored ball raise up from the center console but we didn't really know what it was until the lights hit it. One of those experiences that you have trouble explaining to someone who didn't see it too. The second show in September I had 8th-row dead center and some excellent LSD. @@Marsday7 I'm 18 and what you said is 100% accurate- eventually, we hit a age where- we become curious of things the generations before us enjoyed. It may come from something you heard from your parents/elders or of just pure wonder of what it was like back then. Music is this magical thing that can truly make you travel back to another time- whether it be the future, or the past. The age I was when I had this 'music revelation', was 15 too. so 3 years now, for these past 3 years I've gotten into a uncountable amount of bands/artists and I'm glad I adopted this love for music. prior to 3 years ago, I just listened to radio hits, mainstream stuff, music from certain fandoms lol, and what I grew up hearing. This revelation has changed my perspective on life I'd say too.

In the past music had meaning. It was not about look how sexy I am or look how fast I can play, it was about substance. It had soul. It was unique to every artist. Now they all copy each other to try to get attention. It was real back in the day. Pink Floyd was the stranger on the block but it had soul and deep meaning. Like Zepplin, it had meaning and soul. Today very few can do that. VERY FEW STAND OUT AS IT ALL SOUNDS THE SAME. We had it good in the 70`s because music was real and nobody was trying to hord in on someone elses sound. That is what is needed today. Real artists going for the real feel of music not the quick sales that don`t last.
