This album is timeless and I'm glad you've taken your first step into the profound world of Pink Floyd. It's difficult to listen to DSOTM as seperate tracks as it really is a single, interconnected masterpiece. Do yourself a favour, put aside just 42 minutes in a quiet place and just let it flow through you, I guarantee you won't regret it!

Really nice reaction..! I would recommend Comfortably numb from the Pulse concert, it's something else with one of the worlds most epic solos. Another brick in the wall from the same concert is also fantastic... or Money.. or...or.. or 😊

Pink Floyd is generally considered one of the best bands that's ever been. They're cerebral and emotional, often combining several genres of music in one song to make it uniquely Pink Floyd. And please don't shy away from their longer songs, they always leave you wanting more. I hope you keep listening because every song is more beautiful than the last.

I've heard this song a million times. As a kid the lyrics flew by me. Now they take on /much/ more meaning. Thanks for this.

The entire album is a work of art that needs to be listened to in one sitting. Try to have the lyrics with you as their lyrics are always deep and meaningful.

Try "Us and Them" also from Dark Side Of The Moon, but you need to listen to the whole album because it is a 10-part 42-minute song, Time was part 4. In concert, they often play the entire album straight through in one piece, Masterpiece. To make a reaction, I suggest recording your reaction straight through, don't try to stop between songs because there is no between songs, and then you can break it up without editing

This song now that I am 56 makes more sense then it did at 15 when I first listened to it as I got more years behind me now then I got in front of me. Davis Gilmour is one of my top three guitarist of all time.

The band was named in homage to two old black blues musicians from North Carolina, PINK Anderson and FLOYD Council. it was a declaration of the type of blues music that they wanted to emulate. At first they were called; "The Pink Floyd Sound", later shortened to just "Pink Floyd".
The lyrics of this song is spot on describing ones life events and how short life is. At 73 myself this song is a masterpiece of announcing TO YOU that as we grow older, time seems to speed up until your future looks not at all as it did when you were 20 years old.

As an "older" PF fan. Good pick, BUT, this album should really be done as "Side 1 / Side 2" if possible because each track transitions directly into each other and themes follow.
So for example "Time" about life, transitions into "The Great Gig in the Sky" which is the deepest dive into the emotions surrounding Death you will ever hear 😉
"Money" from side 2 is a great example of range, lots of elements in this one track are used elsewhere.
If you want to see the guys playing back in the day, check out

One doesn't just "Listen" to Pink Floyd; you actually "Experience" it. Like several of the previous posters have said, each song blends into the next. The entire album tells the story. It's said that Guitarist David Gilmour doesn't use an amplifier, he plugs his guitar straight into your soul. Give a lot of credit for the sound of the album to studio engineer Alan Parsons. (Alan Parsons Project)

David Gilmour saying half of the lyrics in this song. He sang the first parts and Richard Wright the keyboardist saying the more ethereal softer sounding voice just before the guitar solo in the middle. Of course mr. Gilmore played that incredible guitar solo that almost sounds like lyrics!

So much to dive into. PF has many songs (aka, masterpieces) that are similar to what you are describing-the more music than lyrics kind of tune. But, either way, you have just listened to the greatest band that ever existed. You will find various styles-some more singing involved, some more music but all worth your while. As others here in the comments have said, many of their albums are meant to be heard all at one time-the songs are really all a part of one piece, one theme-and to fully appreciate them, it's helpful to hear the entire album at once. As someone suggested, if you want to break it up for uploading on YT purposes, you can do that as well. If you enjoyed this song, I highly encourage you to delve further! You won't regret it.

Thanks for doing this reaction, really good. For more Pink Floyd, try the studio version of: "Shine on You Crazy Diamond (Parts I-V)" and the second half is "Shine On You Crazy Diamond (Parts VI-IX)" These are long tracks 15 and 13 minutes but what a journey and with these two tracks you can definitely "see" the song structure....I'm going to subscribe cause I know that you may do more Pink Floyd.

If I've said it once, I've said it a thousand times...when you world turns to shit and you've had a crappy day, you come home, pour a scotch (or similar), or glass of red, drink that offing it down. Then, pour another, woof that down too, then pour a third one and go turn off all the lights. Put this OR any Pink Floyd record on. Go find a bean bag or deep leather couch, put your headphones on and sink down into your chair, close your eyes, sip away the final drink, and let the music sooth your soul !!!

You are only half right on the singer, as there are actually two, not counting harmonies. You are correct, David Gilmour sings the verse, then, keyboardist Richard Wright takes over for the bridges (that start "Time is lying in the sunshine" and "Every year is getting shorter"...)

Really hope ypu go deeper into the Pink Floyd rabbit hole. There are many timeless masterpieces to explore and to experience. Yes, I love Pink Floyd and I understand that there are people that don't like their stuff. But one thing is super clear to me: even in 100 years people will enjoy Pink Floyd. And most other music that was created during the past 60 years will be forgotten.

My first ex-wife was a bit younger than me (she was born in '73), so I introduced her to Pink Floyd. The first time she heard this it freaked her out a bit because she had a "thing" about loud bells. But she wound up loving PF almost as much as I do. With Dark Side being a concept album, using sound effects in the intro was something new which they also carried over to other albums such as Wish You Were Here, Animals, and The Wall. The best way to listen to Dark Side is non-stop beginning to end with headphones, sitting back in a bean bag chair, and with whatever mellows you out.

Genre didn't mean much to us kids/teens in the late 60's and up to the late 70's. Sure -- bands had a distinctive sound, but I think that until Punk and Disco began, there was basically Pop and Rock. And Heavy Metal, I suppose. But they said Led Zeppelin was heavy metal back then. And Black Sabbath, too. You listen NOW to these two bands' music from when they were in their heyday,, and what you hear is good ol' rock & roll.
Some of their stuff was heavy -- or heavier than most of their other material. But in no way would I consider any of their songs to be actual Heavy Metal. Black Sabbath's lyrics could be "heavy" into the dark side, but for the most part, they produced R&R. On the POP side, you had tons of groups and solo artists, like The Beatles, Sonny and Cher, The Jackson Five, America, James Taylor, etc.
The Rock side had The Beatles ( yes - again ), Aerosmith, Bad Company, Joe Walsh, Traffic, etc.
But I include Led Zeppelin and Black Sabbath in the Rock side. And Pink Floyd and Yes and Emerson, Lake and Palmer. And Jethro Tull. And Genesis. I was a teen throughout the 70's. I only remember hearing those 3 genres of music back then, aside from Country -- POP, Rock and Heavy Metal. And no one I knew in New Orleans, LA listened to Country. I don't remember hearing the term "prog rock". If I recall, even Pink Floyd and Yes were sometimes considered Heavy Metal. But that was because of the way it sounded when compared to POP.
Yes and Pink Floyd had songs that were Pop-y. Certainly. But the thing that distinguished Yes and Pink Floyd and ELP was the production value first. The sound was amazing. Home stereo systems were becoming more and more advanced, along with headphones. Shoot -- I thought I was cool when I would walk around my neighborhood with my single-line earplug stuck in one of my ears with the other end plugged into my transistor radio, rocking out to "I Got You Babe" and "I'm Into Something Good". And Floyd and Yes and the rest created longer songs, and used more instruments. Their albums told stories. "AOR" ( Album Oriented Rock ) radio stations became popular by the mid-70's. The cool people listened to them. Because the songs were sometimes 5 or 6 minutes long, with many being much longer -- sometimes taking an entire album side -- it required more patience on the side of the listener. Albums were like novels. But once you developed the patience -- and the ear -- to "hear" Floyd, Yes, etc, your world was "rocked". You weren't bored by the long instrumental parts of the song or album, because it all meant something. You were engrossed in the "story" that the music was telling you. And each part was important to the overall story. And it all sounded wonderful. "Prog Rock"? Bah humbug. Simply fantastic music created by gifted geniuses. It's not like I resent genre name-calling, but I do, sort of. There are tons of em now. They call POP from the 60's and 70's different terms today -- Yacht Rock; Blue-eyed Soul. I have come across on CZcams a genre called "Baby Metal . Pretty soon every song released will fall into it's own genre. I wonder what impact Reaction Video Channels have had on this genre explosion.
I love RVCs. I thought they were silly at first -- who wants to watch someone react to songs that I grew up listening to, and have heard a thousand times? Especially YOUNG someones..
But boy was I wrong. Ends up that witnessing the youth of today marveling at my era of music is a blast. It's even gratifying in some ways. Mostly because today's music is horrible, and hearing the current generation admit this, and wish that they were young back in the 60's, 70's and 80's, brings a little bit of satisfaction to this Classic Rock soul. Needless to say, there is good music being produced today. Even bands writing some new R&R songs. I have heard some amazing voices recently. There is hope for the future as far as music is concerned.
[ The moral state of the world? Jesus help us. ]

A lot of prog is instrument heavy, a lot going on. I never have considered Pink Floyd in that way, like Yes or many prog bands of that time. Their music was simpler, and that made it more profound. My two cents.
