I bought an Xbox Series S about a month ago. I regret nothing. Went to a shop before the Black Friday, took it out of the shelf and paid for it. Now I can play games I couldn't because my PC hardware couldn't handle it. Worth every penny.
i like the s too and i would love to get one but all my friends are on ps so i stayed on ps for 10 years and prob get the ps5 too

To be honist as i couldnt get my hands on a series x so i got a series s and then brought a 27in 1440p gaming monitor for under 270uk pound... Rather game these days on a monitor than a tv

Agreed. I don't how many people are buying an xbox and hooking it up to a 20 inch 1080p computer monitor. I mean people definitely do that, but not the average person. Most people who buy consoles are buying them to play on a larger 4k tv in their living room.
My last console before xbox series S was a PS1. Was never a gamer, and it looked really expensive (consoles cost a lot + 60⏠per game sounded stupid to me personaly) so I skiped a bunch of console gens.
My girlfriend and I decided to jump into gaming during covid, so we picked up the series S for 299⏠+ game pass.

The series S is an amazing console if you like digital only, plus it's the only new console that's in stock everywhere. I just got mine for Christmas and I have 0 complaints, every game looks and feels amazing especially at 2k res
Got the Series S with two controllers and battery packs for $250! The market price for these is around $385 plus tax. I've saved over $100 and enjoying my console! Can't wait to get the PS5 and Switch OLED nextđ
Couple things with this test. On a 1080p monitor or TV the Series S is absolutely fine. I think if you are playing on a 4K tv or monitor that is where you would notice the big differences between the two consoles. Regardless the Series S is a great value and there is nothing wrong with selecting that console. Games still look good on it. Also Ori runs native 4K on the Series S so that is one game that would be very difficult to spot the differences.

Series S and Game Pass is an incredible combo for casual gamers and kids.
I personally bought a Series X even though I have a 1080p monitor because I like to play Halo Infinite Ranked and the 12TFLOPS do help in pushing higher resolution and consistent frame rates.
I mostly got it because of game pass and the ability to get 120fps for cheaper in games like Fortnite and Rainbow 6

Same I upgraded from a series S to an X since I was having so much fun with the Xbox ecosystem. Used to be only PS before. Although I sold my Series S for a 50$ loss

I think that the differences are going to be MUCH more noticeable later on in the current gen's lifespan. The games that we have now are still early on and developers need to get used to the new hardware before they can really get everything out of it. Give it another year and I'm fairly certain that new games will start to look significantly better on the Series X but will stay about the same on the S as it is now.
That used to be true on older hardware because the development was more exclusive to the hardware. PS3 was a great example because the cell cpu. The current gen consoles are basically the same as PC, so that point of maxing out what they can do is going to come a lot quicker then it used to. Not to say it wont happen, we will always see improvement but I doubt it will be as noticeable as it used to be and will be more optimization based.

I've had my S for about 4 months and I have ZERO complaints. A 1080p console paired with a 1080p TV, paired with the 3080 tier on GeForce NOW (via Edge, paired with an excellent net connection - your mileage may vary), paired with Game Pass = the best console experience I've ever had, hands down. What a great little (heavy -- SOLIDLY packed with tech) box. I love my S.

@@prosperomiponle7645 It's a 1080p console when it's hooked to a 1080p TV. I'd bet maybe less that 1% of Series S consoles are hooked to 1440p displays - and most of the 60fps games you'll see will be maxing at 1080p (again, in "performance mode")
I like my S games at 1080p/60 not 1440p/30 (eg. Ghost Recon Breakpoint, I think) so, for all intents and purposes, based on what most people will experience, and discounting marketing 'flops and pixel peep'... I tell people the S is a FANTASTIC 1080p gaming machine. While that might not be technically/specification accurate, I feel it's the most truthful description of the product.
Think of an SUV. While it might have fantastic off-road capabilities... most people are going to haul groceries and kids in it. It may never travel off road, or back to the case of the Series S, never actually play a game at 1440p resolution ;)

@@dodovomitory3496 i love the small form factor because of how much little space it takes. I can go anywhere and I don't have to worry about taking disc with me or anything. Also not having a disc drive means there is one less component that can break.

@@oali2478 you would think so but having that slit is another hole for dust and stuff to get in. My old Xbox one broke because the disc drive broke even though I wasn't using the drive. I couldn't play because it keep trying to eject a disc that wasn't there. I play the series s on a 1080 165hz monitor, I've tried an Xbox x on the monitor from a buddy of mine and as I am not a trained professional I couldn't notice a difference between them so for me it's not worth the extra hundred, but again that's for me.

Its just Upscaling wich is not "real" 4k because its the Software wich make it looks like 4k but you can See huge difference compared to "real" 4k res . Just Look it up online.

Bought my series s a couple of months back and its totally worth it next gen gaming in super affordable price.
While I have not played on a Series X or PS5 yet, I own a Series S. I am a casual gamer and the Series S is perfectly fine for me. Especially considering the difference in price.
My biggest problem with the series s or any console that lacks a disk drive honestly. I like having my physical copies, and only being able to have a digital collection of games just puts me off, especially when it comes to the idea that you usually have to be connected online to install them in the first place, sort of gets rid of the physical freedom of a console.
Yeah if it had a disc drive I'd have bought one by now.
That and sometimes the physical version of a game will be on sale while the digital is full price
If it had a disc dive it definitely wouldn't be $299 and that would defeat the purpose of a cheap option and also a good casual users GP machine. Discless is what these companies want. We know it. Just cutting out the middleman's (the store's) 15%+ take on physical sales alone could net them a billion a year more in profits. So that future is inevitable. Unfortunately for them they still need to provide a disc option. And the difference price on the manufacturing end isn't that much less over the disc version so they have to make the value of the price difference far exceed the cost they have. Even though Sony wants an all digital world (as does MS) there is a reason Sony only puts out 1 PS5 AD for every 4 PS5 base units and that is because the PS5 takes a heavy loss on an AD (with the PS base now, according to Sony, being sold at cost - that means the AD with $100 price diff is taking around $70 loss = that drive is about $30 cost at best). But as soon as Sony can get the PS5 AD down to cost is the day you will see the manufacturing scenario flip and Sony will put out 10 PS5 AD for ever 1 PS5 base made.
I personally am all in on digital (I haven't bought physical since the start of the last gen). But I definitely don't want that option to go away.
By the way, pretty much any game (minus the small Indies) now requires you to access online to install. Whether that is physical disc or pre-loaded. Usually, it is that day one patch needed but, companies are using it as another form of DRM as well.

Yes but the disc just has a digital code that starts it download. There's actually nothing on the disk. It's basically a QR code to start the automatic download from the web
I have a Series S connected to a 65â 4K TV. I sit around 7 to 8 feet sway. Games looks clean, Halo Infinte looks great and no aliasing during gameplay. Unless your sitting somewhere in the 4 foot range you canât see the extra resolution of 4K.
keep an eye on in store availability. that's going to be your best bet at getting one. even it's a bundled version at gamestop, you can always sell or giveaway to the extra accessories if you don't need them. i got my series x over the summer when gamestop had 6 in store.

The test would have been more console realistic if you were using a fairly large TV away from you sitting on a couch. On a matte monitor, which almost no one is going to use with a console, it's easy to guess.
If anything its harder to tell since its such a small monitor. On 50+ inch tv the increased sharpness is way more noticeable (1080p vs 4k).
Thats total BS because i have never ever used a tv with consoles why? Well monitors are simply better,better response time faster hz,better resolution for cheaper etc you can get 27inch 1440p HDR10+ 144hz monitor for less than 199, try finding a tv with those specs lol, budget tv sucks for gaming def go for monitor if all u have is a couple hundred for a screen, dont listen to this dude unless u can afford a tv with the same specs in order to use the S fully it gonna cost you like 600 vs 199 for the monitor
Got my Series S because I wanted to play Forza Horizon 5. I quite literally drool at the graphics and beauty of the game. You will not regret the Series S if youâre still rocking a 1080p monitor like me.
Even rocking a 1440p monitor is fine tbh, especially playing at a distance which most people do since not all games support M/K
@@mmm.3839 Ya, my only complaint with the S on a 1440p monitor is playing XB1 games where you get the regular XB1 version and not the 1X enhanced. Some games you are playing 720p or lower and is much more noticeable at 1440p than 1080p. But for X/S enhanced games or 360/OG Xbox backwards compatible games that get 2x or 3x to 1440p + AA, it is great.
I was so close to getting a series s, I lover the specs and was ok with digital only, but then I found out about target and how good they are at restocking series x early so I went early called and they had one left, super happy I was able to get one and also it makes fable 3 look so good especially reflections in water and fps đŻđŻđŻ
My biggest issue with the series s is the lack of a DVD drive for my Xbox and Xbox 360 games.

I have a SX in the living room and S on my 1440p pc monitor. I wish they'd let me leave a disc in the SX and use that to verify the game to also download and play on the S. Especially when it comes to GOTY games I have on disc for Gamepass games that do not include DLC (FO3, New Vegas, Elder Scrolls games, etc.)

The CPU matters more than the graphics card, that's how it always was and always will be. You can turn down resolution, settings, hell just have lower graphical fidelity in your games, but you can't turn down your gameplay, mechanics, level design, enemies objectives, obstacles and AI.

Please tell me the Series S is paired with a 1080p TV or monitor when doing the comparison. Of course if you hook it to a 4K it's gonna show, even with TV or Xbox HW upscaling.
I guess this is where the Xbox âwinsâ over the PlayStation. Xbox has the cheaper version which was âuntouchedâ by scalpers while PlayStation only has âone versionâ which is the âmore expensiveâ version only. Not saying Xbox will outsell PS but lowkey Xbox becomes a viable option for budget gamers wanting to play the latest and greatest (but probably just limited to the Xbox and PC environment).
Well I mean I bought a used PS4 when the PS5 came out and I donât have any complaints about that, so there are cheap options from both sides; I think PlayStation even still sells the PS4

I completely agree with everything in this video from a graphics perspective. I'm an series x owner myself so may be biased but still despite this video still would choose the x over the s for that quality difference (bearing in mind I do have a 4k 120hz TV which is where you really see a difference) and for the future. The series s has a very limited storage space at about 360 gb, I understand the x is not much better at around 800gb, but non the less that really makes a difference. Also if you look at every console that's been released it took a while for game developers to really get to grips with the power the consoles have and the next year to 2 years is really gonna see a level up from where we are now in my opinion. I'm never gonna tell someone they made a mistake with the s cause I've seen it and it is a great system I'm just really looking forward to the future and how these systems are going to be utilised and I think the s will see a much greater difference
I also just wanted to note the digital only while it allows for a smaller console and the cheaper price, I think all xbox owners know the pain of seeing the same game years on still sold at the same price on the Microsoft store. Microsoft definitely need to fix this for digital only users but for now disc will always be the king for me cause I can go down to a local games store and buy games when they start to decrease in price or straight off the preowned sections.

What do you think? Is upgrading from an original Xbox one from 2013 on a 4k 120hz tv worth to pay the 500$ extra dollars for a few extra details? Note i do have 20 or so disc games that id like to play so a disc drive is welcome. But is it worth the money? Either console would be a huge leap over what I have now.
@@fuze3522 I really do think it is I've gone back to playing some games i used to play such as Ark survival evolved and the gameplay is so much better, games load faster and quick resume has been amazing cause I'm the kind to want to play on game for like 30 mins then switch. You are gonna have to accept that you will not get 20 games on the storage however I have about 11 albeit some large games but it isn't much but for the trade off of the speed and power of the series x it is so worth it.
@@christ6434 well storage aint a problem for me i got a 4.5 tb storage unit attached to my XB1 and currently have 108 games installed so ill just bring that to the new console, but its a 500$ difference, so im just saying they run the same games while almost looking the same to the untrained eye. And quick resume is a little faster on the S. So is a few textures and 15 or so disc games worth spending almost 3 times the price?
@@fuze3522 that's where I see a difference I am someone who can really tell the difference in video quality and often set up monitors and TV for people cause I am known to notice slight things that need to be sorted. Also your storage device won't work on either of the new xbox consoles, the storage must be the ssd sold by Microsoft at the moment
@@fuze3522 you also have to look at the future series x/s games are gonna be the normal games for release and yes maybe they will still allow you to play them on the xbox one but how is the performance gonna be impacted. All I'm saying is that right now for some maybe the upgrade isn't worth it but the games that will soon be out will definitely warrant this extra power

It really depends know the monitor/tv native resolution and size. 55" Native 4k panel versus something that's also native 1080p and 4k does mess with the results!

The thing is if you have them both connected to a 4k TV then you will start to see major differences. Not only that, but digital only on S and some games only run at 30fps where on the X they run at 60.
biggest difference - only digital vs optical. If i was microsoft create an external drive add on for say 80-100 bucks then at least it can be used as an Series x too.
As a Series X owner, I am so glad for Series S owners who love it, it's nice to see their perspective of a digital lifestyle and with the size and an option to add a third party screen, it has me thinking of getting a Series S when it goes on sale in the far future

Honestly due to the same CPU. I can see the resolution getting lower more than anything. Series s will likely run between 720/1080.

Thing is now for the Xbox systems for their edge browser it now supports Geforce Now so people can also play their PC games on a Series S which is a nice option to have if you don't have a lot of games for the system itself already.

I say for the most part Iâm happy with my series s. I got my series s at the beginning of 2021. With game pass itâs not a bad console. If the series x was actually available at msrp maybe Iâd have considered it. But the series s is good enough and runs pretty smoothly with good graphics if staying on 1080p.
I really wish they'd drop the BlueRay drive (and price) and toss us a "Series X All Digital Edition". The only point of failure I'ver ever had in my MS consoles (OG and 360) was the optical drive (dead after a year+ on both consoles), so I'd be very cool with a cheaper, tiny-bit-smaller(?), 4K black box so I can move my little, white 1080p (FINE! 1440p... jeez; ) box into my bedroom.

Got my little brother a Series S. He has an OG Xbox 1 and he's been having a blast. With Game Pass he honestly has been playing the S more than his PC.

I have an XSX and my wife and son have the XSS. My wife doesn't have a 4k TV, but my son and I do. It is difficult to see any huge difference between the two. Even, with mine and my wife's TVs side by side and her's running at 1080, it's still difficult to notice.
I've been playing on my Series X next to my dad on his Series S, both on 1080p screens, and the little guy has really been impressing me, espesially running Flight Simulator
All the marketing Iâve seen about Xbox only mention the S. I know the X is difficult to obtain, however they really are trying to shift the S.

@@tw3nty7 sold my PS4 too and the controllers and all the games and it pretty much paid for my Series S. Since then Iâve saved up enough for a PS5 retail price not having to buy games etc because of Game Pass, although I think Iâm going to hang on for now like I said and wait for a Slim.

I would expect on a 1080p Monitor, that the differences are negligible or Minimal between the 2 consoles. On a 4K TV I feel like you would really see more of a Difference. Nonetheless the Series S is a Great value console that I recommend to everyone even if youâre waiting on more PS5âs & Series Xâs to become widely available at MSRP.
Picked up an S in June and honestly couldnât be happier. I mean you get to play all the same games and at a fraction of the cost. I also upgraded from the VCR XB1.
Idunno... The thing that always brings me back to console gaming is the fact they, with a console, I put in/start up the game and it works. For 25 years, I've never had a PC experience as stable and smooth as console. On my console, I've never had to troubleshoot drivers or figure out various different settings just because I've changed which game I'm playing.
now a day it feels like way less effort goes into the PC side of gaming from developers. Maybe because the market is smaller, but a game feels more polished on consoles, even ignoring the stuff you mentioned. I think it comes down to the small market of PC gamers compared to consoles.
I got the x for RETAIL and donât regret buying it over the s. Im ok with paying for the graphic and performance improvements even if they are slight improvements. But an even bigger reason to buy the x over the s is because for 200$ more you get way more storage for the same price of the external SSD but with the graphical improvements
Yup, thanks to microsoft's absurdly expensive proprietary storage that's how it is, but only if you manage to snatch the X at retail price, right now it's double that, while the Series S is 275$ here.
@@badass6300 oh I donât doubt that, scalpers are ruining everything. I would still personally wait if ur going to buy a drive but that depends on how badly you want the new consoles, there is little need to upgrade.
@@adampenn1590 Well I got an unlimited Gigabit internet, so small drive space is no longer an issue as I can download 450GB per hour, or 150GB per 20 minutes, or 50GB in about 6-7 minutes.
I don't want an Xbox Series console because technically they don't have exclusives, all of them are on PC as well, and I'd rather upgrade my PC, but I can't, at the same time I'm tired of all the problems that pop-up with many PC games, while consoles are 99.9% problem free, plug-wait-play devices.

@@adampenn1590 yup, but at the same time they require you pay to play online(which is still infinitely cheaper than upgrading a CPU, GPU, Motherboard and RAM every 2-3 years, I'm just saying it sucks), but I play almost all of my online games on PC, while I use consoles for singleplayer games.
If I didn't code and do various other work on my PC I would have a simple APU PC and play most of my games on consoles.

I have the Series X for my main gaming and a series S for my room tv and they are both great. There is a difference but itâs not as big as I thought it would be.
It's nice to think about how far consoles have came in the past few years.

I have a Series S, its a very nice system. But not for one SECOND would I have chosen it over an X if they were equally available, Good enough is the Death of progress. And personally the Closer consoles get to Matching the High Mid GPU/ CPU of the year it launched in the better. I want to see boxes that cost ÂŁ300 - ÂŁ550 that not only competes with Mid tier PC's, but openly embraces mods in all games, possibly VR Support, performance boosts to all old games ect. And if we give the message "the Series S is good enough" Then MS and Sony will be content to just sit idle for as long as possible, and we will be trapped at this level for a long LONG time. Just look at the "Jump" from 7th gen to 8th gen, Pathetic. I sure as hell don't want a repeat of that, and if your smart you don't either.

Problem is that itâs digital so itâll be more expensive in the long run, is weaker and some games already show itâs constraints and more importantly the fps is lower a lot of the time and resolution too

My only problem is lack of disk drive. I like physical games. Less download times, and less storage on the console. I did get a PS5 from Walmart for msrp + state tax last December though. However, the series S does seem like a viable choice. It does suck that the chip shortage along other supply chain issues is still around a whole year later. Trying to get a graphics card still feels impossible :( Though Iâm appreciative to remember there are alternatives.
I have a PS5 and my younger brother has a PS4 and we both play Dark Souls 3, I probably couldn't find a difference in the graphics but you can definitely tell the frame rate difference and that the PS4 is slower to process things

I mainly play siege and after have the series s for a year and a 120hz monitor it looks great and has constant frame rate it also is way faster than the old gen consoles

Lesser powered consoles will be ok for a year or two maybe... But as the games shift to use the full capacity of next gen functionality, you are going to want the more powerful console.
not really...if you think about it, the previous gen consoles had the same "ecosystem", (ps4 phat-ps4slim-ps4pro & xbox one-one s-one x) and if you're not into VR or hardcore gaming or just a normal user, not an enthusiast, the ps4slim-xbox one s where (and still are) perfectly capable enertainment systems
Not really. The resolution will get lower. But other than that it won't effect it that much. It's still the same architecture which makes it extremely easy to port to. Similar power CPU that's only a bit weaker? Same storage really... You'll still get the same experience just at

I have an Xbox Series X and I love the detail on my 1080p TV because I don't have to worry about pixels dropping out
I think the only thing to consider is drive space, itl cost nearly same for s and extra drive as buying an x
I tried to get a replacement Xbox one s for me and it went from under $300 to over $500 at Walmart ( at least where I live and the system model is a few years old , was shocked in under a year the massive price hike , but being on disability I can't afford that much even on ebay prices are nutso

Love my X. It's hooked to my big 4K TV. But I actually play my S more because it's hooked up where my computer is. Love them both!
Series X on a 50â 4K. Series S on 55â 1080. Thereâs a noticeable difference but itâs still amazing. Love both of them. Had the Series X first because the lack of disc drive and storage size was a deal breaker for primary console.
I've had the S fer awhile now. The only problem I have is the frames. I have a 4k t.v. and the 2.1 hdmi, but still stuck on 60 frames. In battle royals, like apex or War Warzone, that's a big deal. But you get used to it. The speed and load time is impeccable! No regrets

My PC is an i5 7500 and a GTX 980 and it's really starting to chug at games and it EATS the power bill and takes forever to load games, just upgrading one component to something that comes close to even an S will cost like ÂŁ180 and at that point I might as well just pay ÂŁ240 and get the S itself, besides I needed a home theatre and a new Xbox controller separately anyway. makes all the sense in the world. and I've always wanted something capable of minimal Ray Tracing
Just got a series s and I'm blown away at the speed of the ssd haven't been able to game yet as I'm still moving my library from my one s but looking forward to it

This is like my laptop vs desktop. Laptop has a 1060 and desktop has a 3080 ti. I can plug one of my monitors into my laptop and they literally look and play almost the same with RTX off.
In the halo infinite the series x can play at 120fps at performance mode where the s only 60 at performance and the differences in anti arising in forza horizon 5 on performance mode ARE HUGE

The resolution is very Noticeable in Series S for example if you play warzone on series S everything is very blurry and grey but in Series X you have more resolution and better visibility.
Also Series S renders Warzone in 720 p in 120 fps Mode
For anybody who isn't sure, i have both consoles with my S connected to an LG 27 inch monitor. When i switch to my 50 inch tv, series X it is hardly noticeable. I'm no video nut though and when you are playig a game at full on 60 fps you won't pay any attention to a random piece of rope. The Series S really is a great console for the price and gets you into the next gen gaming. add that on to gamepass and you are on to a winner.
doesn't matter how many fps a system has, when your being ddos'd the player grid location updates and corrects 300 times per second causing what would be 280fps to be 15fps... full green connection bars to. what do ya do with dos users?
halo infinite is a grate game even on a fx8350 pushing 50fps 720p up scaled to 1080p, but the few incels that are around... out of no where, there lair is swamped.
For those who are hardcore gamers and have the PROPER TVs with HDMI 2.1 and itâs 4K 120 hz and playing properly with all the checkmarks on the 4K details section of your Series S, salute. For some reason, I feel like most reviewers keep their vids at default for regular folk and I can understand yes, but Iâll insert myself into this equation. YES, Iâll eventually get a Series X when itâs more readily available. However until then, I have a Series S on a 4K 120 hz HDMI 2.1 tv. So I prepared myself for the Series X BEFORE I get it, but Iâm loving my Series S for right now. TLDR, folks with a Series S, to maximize your gaming experience, get a proper tv and an HDMI 2.1 Cable (I have the Belkin cable) for your tv. The one that comes with your Series S is only an HDMI 2.0 cable. I just feel like most videos are catered to folks who are casual and not so much for us hardcore gamers who just havenât gotten our hands on an X yet. We know our stuff and we have our S at maximum efficiency and resolution. Iâm aware of the base 1440p goals of most games for the system but donât forget that the system can and will upscale to 4K UHD when you set your system right and put it at 120 hz.
