I was once in line at a GameStop to buy a used PS3 when a guy got in line behind me to trade in his PS3. So i bought the PS3 off the guy for less then what GameStop was selling them and more then what he would have received from the store. We both won on that day.
Worked at game crazy back in the day.. pro tip.. next time you only need to offer the store credit amount in store credit ;) I found even people who wanted store credit would make the deal at the idea of buying whatever they wanted and taking home cash instead of credit on a gift card.

I was a manager at Electronics Boutique 20 years ago and we had the same problem with the PS2 âcompany refurbsâ and they usually didnât operate. I told my staff to unpack them when they came in, immediately mark them as defective and ship them back out. We had gotten burned too many times, and I wasnât gonna put my customers through that anymore.

@@bland9876 Who knows. I only commented once.
What would happen if a customer did get a defective item?
FYI, for those of us who miss out on a sale by a few days...if an item goes on sale a few days after you bought it, just call up customer service and politely ask for a partial refund. Gamestop is usually pretty good about giving you the difference in cost between what you paid and the current price of the console.
As someone I used to work for GameStop, my advice is to always buy the Used system over the Refurbished ones. The refurbished ones were broken at one point, and whoever fixes them doesn't do a great job.
Or doesn't do their job at all.
I would hope that they have skilled and qualified people refurbishing the consoles. That would be the hope and expectation, really.
@@user-nk9op7ms4z Shut up bot. Everyone knows you're not the real Austin.
Youâd be surprised how many only need a good cleaning and are fine and was only âbrokenâ due to lack of cleaning and Iâve only been refurbing/repairing/modding since the original ps 1 lol
Funny, I bought a refurbished Xbox one s and it was only missing 200mb from the advertised TB. 130$.
So there's something to know about these. The Pre-Owned one likely came directly from a store, which isn't supplied any real shipping materials except for the void fill paper. Additionally being a preowned system there's nothing the store has to make the systems sit in the box nicely like the "refurbished" ones. I've seen some "refurbished" ones come in that have looked worse than pre-owned ones that walk into a store. With regards to the rubber feet, that's how the system is traded in and if there's anything "wrong" with the machine it gets sent back to the warehouse to be "refurbished", which means some minor cosmetic cleaning but no real maintenace done with the actual system.
I can back that up. When I was a manager at Gamestop all we did was plug them know and make sure they could connect and weren't banned and make sure the basics worked. Wiped them down and set them in the back for 2 weeks for a trade hold. They are packed in a box we have and that's it. When we ship they get packed with paper fill and they arrive to you the same as we got them from the customer who traded it minus a memory wipe and wipe down with a rag. Refurbished pretty much the same. Other than a few minor things fixed if needed. They'd wrather recycle it if it's too much work.
As someone at a current gamestop location, there can also be shortages of the custom preowned boxes right now which has-- at least at my store-- caused us to start using shipping boxes to house preowned hardware. The fit is terrible, and if we had to send out anything, it would probably get pretty dinged up.
True
100% Facts Ryu, glad someone else said and noticed the clear difference.
I'm so glad to hear some truth from people working at GameStop.
Too often I hear excuses and that's it. I haven't really paid them much attention since the one in my area closed down late 2020. The next closest one is literally 20 to 30 miles away so I've pretty much either been buying online for super cheap from them or not at all.
I sold my Xbox One X a few months ago (on eBay), and whew... this video makes it seem like I really sold mine for far, far too cheap! I'm one of those people that keeps everything -- including the foam wrap, plastic bags, and twist ties -- so the console looks pretty darn good once I get it all back together. I can imagine that the only reason you'd want to buy from Gamestop is just the ease if something is wrong, and familiarity. Also, they don't know me, but they know Gamestop.

You suppose to compare the price to stores. So if Xbox one x selling for 390 at GameStop used you should sell yours for like 340-350. The big test for pre-owned consoles and accessories is the rattle and smell test.

I also like to add that a lot of these consoles are shipped directly from stores, are GameStop Here is known for sending a lot of consoles off to other places specially not very packaged since corporate doesn't send them crap to keep it safe.
It also is the manager of the store to find a way to package them better. They could have added paper inside the console box so it would not be moving around.

Iâve had my One S for a few years got it for 200$ on Black Friday.
Once loading times became annoying enough I got a 500GB portable T7 Samsung SSD and I even had issues within games disappear.
Maybe you guys should do a Series X vs One X w/portable ssd video
Digital foundry already done it. One X with ssd compares to Series S, not Series X, cause SeX better anyway.
Digital Foundry just did a vid on One X with an SSD over the Series S. Obviously the One X had the advantage in resolution most of the time but the jaguar cores canât really match the CPU in the Series S. As well as things like Quick Resume, FPS Boost, and other features. I have an X and a PS5, but I would def go S over a One X, ssd or not, anyday. If you value resolution over performance though than it becomes a personal decision really.
The one doesnât even have ssd configuration. So basically your not getting any bost especially if your not running the os off of the ssd
@@IMWH1T3xK1LL3R you can install a ssd into a last gen console. Digital Foundry recently did a vid where they installed one in a One X and put it hp against a Series S. Still not worth it though as youâre out the cost of a One and the ssd, not to mention the time to install it, which is more than a Series S would cost for less performance as while the gpu will net you 4K more of the time, the CPU is the real bottleneck in last gen consoles.
@@mandrews6282 I never said you canât do it. I said itâs pretty much pointless. You donât get velocity architecture which is what the ssd in SX/S is built around.
There was a report where a person purchased a xbox series s on ebay and when he tries to boot it there was nothing so when he opened the consol up there was only the fan and the other parts were taken out and they some how glued a slim brick in the series s for the weight
With the 1X, you can disallow 4K for faster paced games. You can play in 1080P @120hz if your display supports it. Switch it back to 4K for slow paced games and get those good visuals.
I put a 1tb ssd inside my Xbox one s, it's literally perfect and when I do play on console, load times are nothing, only downside is that it voids the warranty but it's been expired since like 2017 so... 9/10 would recommend
Edit: For clarification, I use a pc mainly for my games but when I'm on either my ps4 (which I've done the same to) or Xbox I play games like 2k and stuff. It makes those loading experiences a lot better
i just did my pro. i got a 1TB Samsung 870 EVO on sale for $99 i should've bought a few of them.
I'm using a Samsung T5 external SSD on the One X. USB 3 transfer speeds are slightly faster than the One X's SATA HDD. So for the One X, One, PS4 and PS4 Pro the lazy route is the better option. No warranty issues, no potential issues with partitions when cloning etc. It's never gonna be as quick as the latest gen load times, but it's makes a big difference.
I still use a 360 and use a 3 tb USB gamedrive to put my games on it
I was simply lucky enough there was at least a series S in stock but I bought a one x when it was new, lost my warranty and it had a weird and rare supposedly firmware issue the shit basically didn't work it close games and apps and shut itself off. Sold it to gamestop had a one s afterwards using trade in money eventually grabbed a one x again cuz I could during lack of stock for Series versions and the one x I bought used had the same damn issue so I settled for pre ordering the series s last summer trading into gamestop yet again a faulty Xbox one x for the high value trade and the money I needed. I may do this with PS4 tho had regretfully sell it in place of losing my OG switch before Sword and Shield came out I copped a switch lite using the money I sold it with smh. The Xbox Series S is cheaper than Nintendo Switch OLED. I'd say Nintendo's scam is a bigger deal.
Thatâs because Nintendo tries to make a profit on their consoles while Xbox just breaks even
And it has same things as last switch ( no other upgrades then 1mm wider and oled screen )
Well when you get the switch you are pay for a PORTABLE console with A LOT of exclusives, I mean A LOT
Shut up
@@mysterything8348 calling a scam "profit" is one way of looking at it. Most scams *do* result in profit.
The problem is Nintendo engineers their joycons to fail after warranty, (those controllers are tested for time (hundreds of hours before failure / drift / use, they KNOW the analogue sticks fail, and want them to fail after warranty. So you get used to buyin ga new one, a new colour, a new gimmick when isntead you should have your ogirinal controllers last the entire systems lifecycle. Same with the PS4's much cheaper controller compared to the PS3, and even the PS5 has had issues already.
The new OLED screen they used is cheaper in manufacturing (allegedly) than their old screens, which they stopped buying in bulk. So you're paying more for cheaper hardware. I guess the improved stand is one way to look at over paying for incredibly dated, under-powered, barely functional hardware. But consumers seem ok with buying multiples of the same console and controllers in the same hardware cycle. My original PS3 and PS2 analogue sticks still work way better than Nintendo's broken Joycons. PREMIUM quality.... scam.
I have been doing this for years, I always stay slightly behind in consoles and pick them up when people literally give them away. They do this around Christmas and during a new console launch, everyone has to have the newest shiny thing, even if it doesn't make sense.
I trade in a lot of stuff to gamestop also, they will find any reason to give you less for a controller also. The small nick and they want to mark it "damaged".
Historically speaking I've always been a generation behind when it comes to buying what's relevant. I got my PS2 back in 2011 then my PS3 in 2014 and just last February I got a PS4 followed by a PSP in June for the first time. It isn't limited to just PlayStation I also got my very first Xbox 360, PlayStation Vita and PS Vita back in 2018. So waiting a while can be a good thing especially if you don't want to pay full price for the games during the console's prime.
as for the missing rubber feet on the s and x the adhesive used isn't the best that over time if the person moves the console around enough they just fall off or in transport during a move to a new home or something they tend to also fall off then its just bad adhesive
I got a series s recently from GameStop ,and the Xbox was in perfect condition, but the controller had 2 different joysticks and the right joystick wasnât supposed to on that controller. so it would look up every 3 seconds.
Yep, sold my used day one PS4 (with a few old games) for $250 to gamestop in November. I was lucky enough to get a Series X and had no use for it anymore. Amazing deal for sellers.
I sold a day one as well for $220 like 2 weeks ago.
Does each individual GameStop control the trade-in value for all consoles or is it company wide because of how the website/app provides trade-in quotes? They must have just recently lowered trade-in values because last Thursday I barely got $140 in trade for a very clean white âMaster Chief Editionâ original XB1 500gb but with a newer USB-C controller.
@@Schweigardt maybe xbox is different than PS4. I'm not entirely sure.
@@Schweigardt itâs a single company wide price, the stores donât control the trade in value at all. Your entire trade is based off the console, and you wonât get any extra based off of it being a special edition of the console, since the retail value was the same at the time. As silly as it is, I could walk into a gamestop and trade in a 500gb base Xbox one with the original controller, and get the exact same amount you got for the Halo edition and Series controller. Itâs already a pain to take in trades, and changing individual values of components based off of a special edition console, or newer controller, would make it super complex.

They gave me more than $1000 for a 4 old systems, ugly beaten up controllers, and a handful of games I got 'for free' on the PSCollection and Gamepass.
L3l, in Oct 2020, I scored an inclusive lot of an XB1X AND a 1S + several good games (witcher3, RDR2, Halo 5 and 3 others), and one set of periferals(1 controller, but all cables) for $150 on ebay.
It was a local pickup lot, but both systems were basically mint(1TB X, 500S respectively).
Now I'm mainly a PC gamer, but both systems made for decent hybrid game streaming hubs from my main PC into my bedrooms and swim-up outdoor bar respectively.
I worked at GameStop for 5 years and that is by far one of the most unacceptable packing jobs Iâve seen. The first console you opened was likely in terrible shape when it was traded in; itâs common for those refurbished ones to have panels replaced or be opened up and fixed from the inside out. I bet itâs missing the rubber pieces on the bottom because itâs been resurfaced in some way. The second console was likely just a trade in tested by an employee for under 5 minutes. With these consoles, very little is done before theyâre repackaged and sold.
I dont think that was a matte xbox one. Gamestop refurbished consoles always come with the glossy parts sanded for some reason
Scuffs and scratches won't show as badly
I think mainly to hide scuffs and scratches
@@Azik688 literally rephrased what I said
@@alexbrawley2158 but now the whole thing is scuffed and scratched. One shouldnât have to buff the console back up to make it look the way itâs supposed to look.
@@Fhwgads11 yeah no shit
Holy moly, a tech channel recommending used consoles instead flexing their PS5 and the the 5 games that go with it.
As a current employee, with used consoles they just give us the box to put it in, no stuffing like with the refurb one, but I have terrible experience with refurb stuff.
Regarding 07:59 perhaps the PSU was not included inside the consoles case because they felt that adding a PSU would further contribute to heating problems... Didn't this name succeed the XB360 with its widespread RROD pattern failure(s)? I would be gunshy myself after that debacle... There kinda should be a lemon law for consoles
Iâve had the original Xbox 1 for 7 years and used it almost everyday and it stills runs great

Dude the prices of PlayStation 3 consoles are literally back up to where they were when they first released in some cases. I bought a ps3 from a pawnshop for 60 bucks like 3 years ago. At the time I thought that was steep and now I would do anything to see prices like that again. People are selling theirs for parts now for the price I bought a perfectly good used one in perfect condition. Guess times are that bad to where old stuff is more expensive then a series s which is current gen gaming.
Shout out to the buff Pokemon chillin' in the background.
I really want to hurt that guy for throwing away the physical games
the Xbox One X did not cost $400 it was $500 when it released, I know because I bought it day one. Iâve upgraded to the Series X as well and I gotta say itâs a far better improvement over the One X especially if you have a TV that can actually output the power of the Series X, like my LG 4K OLED C9. itâs really night and day difference.
There were 3 console boxes in the first large box opened.
Did they just put an empty box in there also ?
I think my hard drive is going in my one S your video just convinced me to buy and SSD and replace the HDD myself rather than buying a new console.
I bought 2 pre owned Xbox One X consoles from GameStop. Both ending up breaking within a month. Maybe just horrible luck but I canât justify going to GameStop for anything anymore thereâs just no point haha.
I disagree with Ken, physical disc games all the way. Game pass is basically like streaming services. You own nothing.
Game pass is great, you own nothing yes but why do you need to own a game you'll play once or twice then never use again. All the while the value of the game bought goes down in time. Game pass is cheap and the future of gaming
Physical games for life
I have a huge game collection, but my roommate has game pass and it's nice for playing new releases before I decide whether I want to buy a physical copy.
where would you recommended getting consoles for that aren't ebay or cragilist (or anything like that)?
When is the right time to up grade your xbox ? When you had it for 2 years or had it for 8 years
Man I always love the people who wait until the end of a generation to buy the console when it's super cheap and are somehow able to squeeze incredible deals.
I wish I had the self control and patience of these people.
My buddy got his Xbox One S for $180 in 2019. He picked up like 15 good games for less than $200 and somehow managed to get 6 months of Xbox game pass ultimate included for free. It is completely insane how much higher the prices for the consoles are now than they were in 2019. Especially for used consoles.
Just got a ps4 yesterday, itâs pretty fun!
Congrats
Former employee here: we couldnt accept used console that didnt include controllers and cables, so trade-ins would often buy a used controller to add to their trade to get it through, thus why you occasionally get random controllers with your system.
About the rubber feet... It's interesting you mention that because I bought my Wii U, PS3 Super Slim, and PS Vita at GameStop and the Vita was missing screws, the PS3 was missing it's feet, and the Wii U looks like they took a sander to it for "resurfacing". They definitely do weird stuff to their trade in consoles đ€Ł

Walmart has been doing the same with the Xbox series x ⊠they donât keep them on stock outside and only have them to be purchased online worth double the double
The PS4 Pro used prices on EBay are ridiculous too.
as a past GameStop employe, i packed a ton of Xbox's like that, and normally the rubber feet stay where they are, also pre-owned consoles don't normally get refurbished unless they are broken.
Itâs sad that GameStop does this bullshit man. Just give us a good console that works man and for way cheaper.
Bruh they canât then they would literally be giving you money
They would make no progit
I covet your tool kit! Where can I get one?
Just wanted to say that the prices in ebay for one s and one x are crazy high for our standarts in Estonia. Here you can get an one x in basically mint condition for 230⏠from second hand sales
Simple. It's that expensive because they're in high demand due to the better more modern / newer consoles being harder to get. What I don't get is you can get a Series S bundle on gamestop for around $349.99 very often.
Different chip in it. They are not in shortage
@@Skadooshie0808 that combined with all the people saying âi only want the xâ means i was able to get both my brothers and myself a series s console and could buy 10 more if i wanted to.
I bought my series X from Gamestop, and they told me I have to buy this headset, and grips thing or a 1 year warranty, or else I wasnât allowed to buy the console.
Stupid, but I went with the headset and grips (it was $30CAD cheaper) because I could probably sell it.
P.s., I probably wouldnât have to do this, if EB Games had it in stop about 2 months prior before Gamestop bought them.
P.s.2., this is in Canada
Wait what?! U cant buy the console unless u buy something else with it? Did I read that correctly?
@@Slamjackdotcom Yes you did. Very stupid. They would not allow me to buy the console unless i bought the set or the warranty. They even said that Iâm not allowed to return the set.
I would of walked away
This method is very common here in Germany unfortunately.
So I worked for gamestop and I can explain this. It's to stop people from buying the system only to then scalp it. If you buy the system you can then sell it for 2 if not 3 times its initial cost and profit the rest. But if we tell you buy this other stuff first you either may not have the money to afford it because you only had enough for the system. Or because now even if you did scalp it you aren't making as much off of the sell because you were forced to spend more. And the issue of not being able to return the items is that exact reason. If you were able to return the items it would've been on the same level as buying the system alone. And look at it like this what you paid for is still less than what scalped prices are.
When I got a Gamestop Refurbished Wii, it was missing screws and had screws put in the wrong places.
I least you got your order. I ORDERED A BLUE XBOX SERIES X CONTROLLER ON JANUARY 7, 2021. As of Jan. 23 2021, it is stuck in processing.
Hey Austin Gran Turismo 7 is coming out as far as I know and it will become a Playstation exclusive.
interesting
@@koen6468 Yeah it's release will be March 4th 2022.
So as a gamestop employee myself I can explain a couple things. For your Xbox one and Xbox one s those likely came from the warehouse since they were refurbished. As for the Xbox one x that one very likely came from a store. The major difference is that the first two were sent back to the warehouse from a store marked as defective for a number of possible reasons may the controller had been defective or the systems had something wrong with them resulting in the need to refurbish them as for the Xbox one x they may not have had a physical reason to send it back though that dent likely came in with the customer on the trade and in the store we have very limited tools to clean the consoles. As for the pricing you need to remember gamestop goes by supply and demand, on top of that people's willingness to spend 1k plus for a ps5 and series x only encourages corporate to put them up at those prices. Also as for the shipping yeah corporate only really gives us the void fill paper we sometimes try to use the little air bags that comes in our shipment boxes if we have space to store them.
They save money by not have a machine to blow up the air bags. Better to use the paper at the point. :)
@@minisithunknown5568 yeah that sounds about right, but to be fair the machine to do that would take up too much space. A gamestops back room is often super tiny, my backroom is a just a hallway lol.
I bought Parasite Eve for $15 for what seemed like only a few years ago, which is probably more like 6 years ago, at a local used game store. The sticker is still on the case. Itâs been a while since Iâve been there, but I happened to go the other day. PE is now around $120. Itâs stupid how much old games have become. It makes me wish I would have bought a bunch before they raised to a ridiculous price.
You have the right idea,Austen!
The last gen is ripe for the picking!
...But what Gamestop is doing is SO wrong!
Me: Who goes to gamestop in 2022?
Austin: Hold my beer đș
Iâd guess Gamestop put the Xbox for sale for 300 just so that they can drop the price to make it seem like a great deal without losing money. Kept it a while for 300 and waited until some dumbass buys one so that they can claim that they have sold it for 300 so it is not a made up price.
Austin talking about Xbox ones
Me:*laughs in xbox 360*
I had to return my Xbox series x and buy another used one because the power cord was swapped out with some other power cord that screws up the console on boot up
