I remember my dad telling me that he was on an flight years ago and he was already in his seat chilling when all of a sudden an angry woman started shouting at him for being in her seat. My dad double checked to see he was in his correct seat and tried to get the attention of a flight attendant while the woman kept yelling at him as if it was his fault for being given the same seat. When the flight attendant came over the woman started yelling at them too. They offered to move her but she was adamant about getting the seat that my dad was in. So my dad gave the seat to her and she was smirking at my dad or something. Then the flight attendant moved my dad to the first class seats for free. Lmao

Change can be hard for neurodiverse. If someone offered me a first class seat or the seat I was assigned, then id offer the first class seat to a mother and a baby and keep my seat. I don't like change.
I often book my seat and pay extra. I once booked a seat by the window because it was a connecting flight after an 11 hour flight and I wanted to lean on it and sleep, plus I have specific dietry requirements assigned to my seat. Someone swapped seats for a family next to me, which was very kind of them. The parent then asked me if their child could sit by the window. I wanted to explain why I had that seat but I would have gone off on a tangent (it hurts when people touch me, so I don't like the aisle seat) and at the end of the day they wanted a yes or no answer. When I said no, the parents screamed and yelled at me and said I was a disgusting, inconsiderate person. No one said or did anything but neither did I move. They spent the whole flight scowling at me and I was too upset to sleep or eat. I can relate to both parties. I felt so guilty for not moving.

Omg I have a similar story, when I worked at Five Below a guy came in during a very slow morning. Like he was the only customer in the store and he kept looking around so I asked if he need some help and the guy said no and kept looking, eventually he walked up to my register with a cart full of stuff. He said he’s from Germany and was visiting his sister who married an American man and they haven’t seen each other in like 5 years, that this is his first trip to America and he’s so blown away by how nice everyone is and how far everything is too. He was buying everything he can from the store since most of the things were new to him and wanted to get his sister and her family gifts.
Then he looked disappointed when I was talking to him since he though all Texans had country accents and that he thought everyone rode horses to everywhere and farms and ranches, and cowboys would be everywhere. Since that’s what he heard and saw on tv, also his sister and brother-in-law told him so because he almost arrived to Dallas as a cowboy ready to experience the cowboy life. He was disappointed that Texas was so city like and no one had an accent, I said could fake an accent for him but the guy said no it’s not the same but thanked me and left after paying for his stuff.

The reason why people treat the staff so poorly is because of situations like with that group of passengers yelling at the employee then the manager comes over and appeases them. All that does is make the employee look bad and thus the employee becomes the villain and the manager is the hero. My aunt is disabled, and so when she flies she calls ahead to arrange a golf cart ride to from her gate since she can't walk long distances. The last time she flew, there was another disabled woman, wheelchair bound who was loaded into the golf cart and was supposed to meet her wheelchair at customs, but they freaking LOST her wheelchair. The airport staff is arguing with this lady to disembark the golf cart, and the lady is saying "I can't, my legs don't move and my wheelchair isn't here!" There was supposed to be a staff member to meet her with a chair until her own chair was found from wherever they lost it on the plane, and unloaded due some weird rules where wheelchairs have to be stowed.
The staff member then turns to my aunt and says "can you unload her?" And my aunt who was too shocked to do anything until now goes "what would you have me do? Set her on the floor until someone comes along to get her? I don't think so." And sat herself back down in the golf cart and refused to move in solidarity until the lady's wheelchair was found.
And that's the story of how my disabled aunt nearly ended up on the no fly list. 😅

When a plane gets late, and the gate gets closed, its because even if late, the plane has to be ready to depart, crew cant take additional time on top of the delay to take more passenger in, thats basically to avoid having extra delay time (also making the airline liable for compensation for the other passengers that are onboard then), could basically cause a EU law to be triggered and cause everyone to have from 250€ to 600€ per person of compensation

@@robert13605 Your answer is very interesting ! To explain exactly why they should not, it is because the airlines pay massively to airports for all the servicing (meaning air traffic control, maintenance, hangar, refueling process etc), and thats not counting the taxes, airlines want to avoid delays because on top of this, airports charge for the trouble of having a late plane(because it potentially retains the ability to make another plane use a gate, and preventing the airport to overall capability/profitability) and they charge by the minute, Its therefore logic that in order paying how ungodly the airport charges them, that they make sure they are ready to go on the minute they're supposed to, now the airport doesnt fine for their own restriction, say if the airport denies the plane to takeoff(for any reason), then the plane is late, but the airline isnt liable, but if they take the 5 mins to let you in the plane, and the restriction is lifted after 2, then thats 3 minute the airline will pay for, and they wont allow this loss

Mental health seems to be at an all time low. I've seen multiple adults have full on toddler meltdowns in the middle of the airport. I have been yelled at and verbally abused more in the past year than in 6 years pre-pandemic.. and it's not just something that happens in the travel industry. I think most people that work in customer service have noticed the increase in mentally unstable people. A friend of mine had a grown man spit in her face for a delay (that clearly had nothing to do with her). A check-in agent in Montreal got slammed in the head with the protective glass by an angry passenger and had to be rushed to the ER. It's absolutely wild out there. Many many people have problems, yet part of life is working around them, there are workarounds for people with poor time management. What would this woman have had to do the day she had to fly that would have made her late? Again this is all failure to prepare and plan, if there was something she needed to do before leaving she should have had it done at least the day before she left or as I said, plan to be at the airport hours before they say you need to be so she can factor in whatever else she had to do on top of her lack of time management.

The first time I flew unaccompanied was with a friend when I was sixteen. We were going through security and as they were checking our bags, I jokingly asked my friend that we don’t have any bombs, right?
Don’t say bomb in an airport kids. I was lucky I just got a tongue lashing and not hauled in for questioning.

So I'm Canadian, and I've traveled to Europe a few times. This has happened before and after, but when we (group trip) were in England, a British man was chatting with us at the restaurant, and at one point asked "So you're all American obviously?" (I think exactly like that but it was a long time ago), we all had a laugh and told him that we were actually Canadian. He started apologizing very profusely. The group couldn't stop laughing about it the whole week, it was just so funny.
Kind of in the same vein, we were a French Canadian group and we also went to Paris (the rest of France we had no issues), and people "couldn't" understand our French and kept telling us to speak English instead. Until finally at one point someone asked us if we were from Québec, but we're from Ontario, and upon revealing this, we spoke French the rest of the night and they understood us perfectly the entire time. (It's definitely not as funny, nor funny in the same way, but I think comparably similar overall.)

Some airline workers are the worst, I remember one time trying to get home from Vegas the airline worker clearly made contact with my father and my mother brothers and I were there standing next to him too. For some reason the airline worker thought that with all of this man's family standing with all their bags why not just print one name on ALL THE TICKETS! So after being refused we returned to that desk to see the man quickly packing his things trying to leave. My dad went straight for his ass, but security already noticed where he was going so they intercepted him to explain what was going on. The worker took no responsibility for the mistake and just kept asking if he could go home because he was "tired".

We were at O'Hare, Chicago for a transfer and the gate person lost our boarding passes. They told us we had to by new tickets totally. I went off called HQ. They immediately apologized. Unfortunately the last flight has already left so, they had to put us up for the night, pay our food until the next flight the next night. They also paid for us to taxi into Chicago, go to a nice restaurant and a theater. All of our meals were top notch. It was a fantastic little surprise vacay. The next day at check out the driver came to collect us and the door to the room would not open. We were stuck. It was in a very nice hotel and had the electronic locking system and it broke. It took a couple hours to get someone in to fix it. By the time they got it fixed, That flight was gone and no more flights again for the day. So, we got another night free, meals and another nice provided by a personal driver into Chicago and the meals, drinks. And all of that again. This was in the 90s and Chicago was still very nice. It went from a very stressful situation from an even worse reason why we were traveling in the first place to a nice couple of days in Chicago all expenses paid. Doubt that would happen today.

10:00 this actually happened to me recently, but it actually wasn’t our fault. Our first flight was delayed but the second one wasn’t. We got off the plane as quickly as we could and booked it to the gate which was on the other side of the airport. We were 2 minutes late, and they wouldn’t let us on board. Had to wait for a flight the next day, and spent 2 hours searching for open hotels (all but one were full in the area)
So, even though the guy was definitely not speaking to her respectfully, I can feel his pain (especially since we had a cat with us)

I've not worked in an airline but I've worked in various types of retail for years and boy, the abuse I've gotten over the years is not even funny. People just don't listen to any policies or think that doesn't apply to them, or you're telling them how something is and what the situation is - and if it's not what they wanna hear, you get screamed at. Shoutout to the other week, 6'4 Keith who screamed that I was an idiot right in my face (I'm a lil 5ft lass bear in mind) cause I told him he couldn't drink 2 beers out of a 4 pack, then bring back the other 2 for a refund.

Not once did I feel the need to yell at the staff who have absolutely no control over these things and are probably just as stressed as me or even worse.

Some lady who clearly isn't responsible and late started complaining to the workers at the security screening and asked if she could cut in front of us. Completely ignoring that we were there listening to all this. It took all my strength to ignore her, let alone sock her in the mouth.

A tactic I found that was really helpful in stressful situations is to say right at the beginning "I know this isn't your fault, but I am really frustrated right now trying to resolve this, so I apologise in advance if I raise my voice, it's not my intention to have a go at you, I just need some help" I tell ya the relief in their voices or on their faces when they know that you're upset but you get that it's not their fault...more often than not they will go right out of their way to help you out, and really look after you.

As a person who works in retail, the reason sometimes staff members are short tempered with customers is because their work environment is shite and are tired of having to be polite to extremely impolite people.
I agree that some people are just assholes and shouldn’t work in customer service, but there are valid reasons as to why staff members can come across as rude. I’ve had money thrown at me and be verbally abused by a lady just because she wasn’t happy with the returns policy.
I understand people have bad days, but experiences like these are why employees can sometimes be grumpy towards demanding customers, especially when more often than not their store is understaffed and overworked. The entitlement and lack of
common decency and respect some people have is appalling.
